My reasoning behind this, is that he has a family with 4 children. I know that he will be offered more money by LSU, but is that money worth the expense of moving your children twice in one year? Does he want to pull them out of school halfway through the school year? I know he is a church going man, Has he found a church he really enjoys? There are many factors that go into his decision. As stated below he was offered to go to TEXAS and turned it down, good sign? Could be!
The thing that weirds me out is C Raines seems like such a mellow guy, I can't figure out what he did to piss off JJ so much. Unless it's the mellowness that did it...
I have seen more ads for the Hokie kids club than I have for the HC. I've even seen a commercial for the kids club. They really need to up their game. Seriously. I also thought the HC was just for season tickets holders. I have really learned a lot from this thread.
I currently do not, but I could and have thought about it. I graduated '12 and have been to 4 home, 1 neutral games the last two seasons. With the lower attendance I feel like the very act of going and screaming my face off is supporting the team. The main reason it seems to join is to get season tickets, and I can't justify getting them. I will only make it down from DC for a few games anyways.
As many have noted the outreach and engagement is nonexistent. It's not like they don't have our emails (I still use my @vt.edu). If they even did simple newsletters, reminders, etc. to let us know they are even there, where our money would go, how it will grow the program; I would be more motivated.
Unfortunately those "soulless corporations" have the $ that keeps everything moving. Naming right are an easy place to get some great revenue.
They implemented a 9/80 schedule sector wide for us and then the week before it was to go in effect they told us our project was the exception. sucks

Also I feel like a link to this thread should be emailed to whoever the hell is in charge of the HC. Probably the most feedback they've gotten in years (from small time donors that is)
That would certainly allow Tech to have an inexpensive coach.
I suppose we should try to take the long view here. Grimes is an exciting, dynamic, and from all accounts superb OL coach. We were lucky to get him, and will be lucky to keep him.
That said, the bar at VT really isn't all that high. Was Newsome the worst OL coach ever in D1? I can't say. What I can say is that he was a comprehensive and consistent failure here. The fact that he couldn't teach the basic fundamentals, much less the intricacies of zone blocking, means that just getting a vanilla competent OL coach would be a vast improvement.
Grimes has started a culture change and his line showed great improvement this year, but I'm guessing it would take another year or two before this team really demonstrated his ability.
At the salaries we are willing to give, basic competence may be the best we can expect. And if we happen to find a diamond in the rough, who can not only coach but also connect and close the deal with recruits, bonus. Ryan Pugh could be that darkhorse candidate that can carry on what Grimes started.
Now that you say that, I now think every other Wednesday is the worst day of the week. I work a 9/80 schedule so we get every other Friday off. Work all week then Wednesday shows up and one week it's "Wohoo! One more day and I get a 3 day weekend!" then the next it's "FUCK I still have two more days of work...."

I don't think hes the devil, I think he is a great recruiter. But by no means will this program get to the next step with stinespring as the OL coach. Im just done with re-treads. This program has been knocked down a peg or 2 because of loyalty to friends. Grimes is 100 times the OL coach that stiney is. IF grimes leaves I want someone just as highly touted

According to this article, the suit is along the lines of what I had premised earlier, arguing the ACC is taking a retaliatory action to try to bring Big 10 schools to the ACC because Maryland is going there.
The article also states that the $157 million is just triple the exit fee as they are also arguing that the ACC is violating anti trust laws (which allow for triple damages) by enforcing the exit fee. From the sound of it, they rehashed the old countersuit and sprinkled in the new info about recruiting BIG 10 schools from the case that was already dismissed by a North Carolina court so I would say that its likely that this case will also be thrown out.

I do. I graduated in 2004 and started giving to the HC about 5 years ago. I only donate at the O&M level due to student loans, cost of living in DC, etc but also purchase season tickets yearly. My first season tickets were great seats but were lost during the reshuffle. I was not upset, I relocated to another area that suits my needs and sucked it up.
I only make it to about one game a year and pass my unused tickets to friends or other Hokies. The cost of going to games (hotel, gas, etc) has gotten to the point its a very expensive weekend and the product on the field is making it harder to justify.
On another note, I have never been contacted by a HC rep. I went and joined the HC on my own. If the HC made a greater effort to recruit new members I feel they would see more involvement. I also believe that they should make a greater effort showing appreciation from the smaller donors, not just the high dollar donors. There are many changes that could be made in future and I hope the HC sees the feedback here and decides to become more involved for the better of our athletics.

Honestly Mondays aren't too bad for me. I usually have a good bit of things to do at work so it goes by fast, some Monday's I have basketball games at night for church league this time of year.
I am a firm believer that Tuesday is the worst day of the week. Mondays you are prepared for. You spend all day Sunday preparing yourself for Monday, you have accepted that fact that Mondays suck and will always suck since you were a kid in school. On the other hand, you wake up on Tuesday after a long a miserable Monday and realize, shit, it is only Tuesday. It is still the beginning of the week. There are no football games on ever on Tuesdays. There are rarely any good baseball games on. Tuesday night dinner is usually Sunday or Monday left overs. People are always bitchy on Tuesday at work because they are back at work after a shitty Monday.
I stand by my belief that Tuesday is the true worst day of the week. Thank God it is Wednesday.

Senior wing Jarell Eddie has been stifled the past two weeks, scoring 12 points or fewer in four of Techs past five games. The Hokies lost all four.
Hes just got to come out of it now, Johnson said. Hes a senior and halfway through his senor year right now. Hes got to figure a way to get out of it. I know that hes a focal point, teams are kind of concentrating on him a little more. Hes just got to shoot his way out of it.

I realize that JJ is talking to the press, but I hope that isn't all JJ is doing about this.
I've said before that I felt Eddie doesn't have "IT" in tough game situations. I still feel that, but perhaps this is a multi-dimensional issue created by the present situation. You'd have to do a DoE investigation to understand the inter-dependencies, but I think you can get my drift below.
In Brian's article here he talks about Eddie bringing the ball up more to help Wilson. I think that is part of the reason Eddie is having more defense on him more of the time on our offensive sets. Perhaps that is creating poor looks for Eddie (i.e., allowing more tight coverage on him at key situations where if he was the shooting guard or a 2-3 combo guy he is working downcourt to get open at that time).
He's a bit slower too so if he brings it down then our transition game is slower.
