It is 80% tax deductible. You lose 20% of the donation as it is factored into the calculations for ticket levels, seniority, etc. My view is you donate because you want to, not because it is a tax write off.

Rumor is the two universities contacted were Penn State & Northwestern. I can see Penn State, but Northwestern? Why?

Tech has also been offering season tickets for sale to the public. When you purchase a set in the public offering you are eligible to renew. I purchased a pair in the public offering before the 2011 season, was offered a renewal for the 2012 season, and was able to add 4 an additional tickets that year. I renewed all 6 tickets for the 2013 season. The only drawback is that without a certain level in the HC, I can only group 4 of the tickets together. All of the seats are in the same section and within a few rows of one another, but I have not yet been able to group all 6 in the same row. I have a co-worker (we're both Tech employees) that has been renewing his public offering tickets for 10 years.

You all have good stuff - big fan of local craft brews and you all were one of the first in the Roanoke / SW VA area. I used to get Track 1 when I was living in Blacksburg.

# | Bitter blog - A few words about the Hokies' assistant coach salaries Andy's analysis of the numbers does not lie and shows that there is some balance in VTs assistant salaries. Kudos to AB for that info. BUT, stepping back and looking at this from a bit further out shows a few things:
A. Key Assistants are becoming more and more a factor in CFB. That is starting to change the way you have to look at these salaries. Its a wave that is now hitting and its going to continue.
B. We have a few coaches whom are key to our success and they are getting noticed around the country. These to me are Bud, Torrian, and Grimes.
D. Grimes, being a newbie, is a bit of an anomaly for some of this logic I am trying to present reasonably. But the trend is still intact in my view.
D. If Grimes gets an LSU offer and VT doesn't at least counter to some degree and compensate the rest of the staff as well then we are going to see a rolling assistance coach train leaving Blacksburg.
E. That would be really, really bad.
F. Continuity matters and we need to let it gel - this will take at least 2 more years.
To me its time to invest in the future. Isn't that what businesses do? Yes for a year or 2 the bottom line would be "slightly" affected, but what does that bottom line look like if the above cited train leaves the station.... I can just see the revenue stream shrinking for as long as 10 years.

No, I thought about it but I only stumbled across the HC on my own. As a recent grad I have little money to spare and with friends/connections still at school and the poor quality of opponents I have not had to pay more than $10 for a ticket (a lot of times I got in free) over the last 2 seasons since I graduated.
I do think that as I have more money saved up (and less student loans) and if the HC and AD are more engaging I may see the value in it. But right now my motivation to give to the HC is just not there.
Did not know that the donation was Tax Deductable. Do you have to live/work in state to qualify or no? HC should definitely advertise this.

Well they kind of already did. Lane donated and raised the money for the stadium and Worsham has given millions to the school. How is that much different than Papa John's giving millions a year for the naming rights?
Never give up the name of a stadium for money (from a business, if a graduate want's to donate millions for his name, I might listen). Put banners and TV's everywhere. Show all the advertisements possible on the jumbotron. Buy turkey legs from the 'AT&T BBQ stand', anything, but DO NOT SELL THE NAME OF THE STADIUM.
