I don't disagree with the opinion that he can start as an NFL quarterback. However, I don't think the opinion that he has a better chance at starting as a TE is "ludicrous". I guess we'll find out in a few years, but yes, I can see both sides of the argument.

The only thing that bothers me is that he said even if OSU offered he would be flattered but that he would stay with the hokies. He said that before the OSU offer came. Now that it came I expect him to leave

My comment was more that I feel like some people who follow recruiting/recruiting services just feel that a kid would go to VT only if no one else made him a better offer. Since tOSU offers, and is seen as the better offer, I feel like some people would think, oh of course he'd go, without necessarily considering anything else.

Only part that bugs me: "but he wanted to keep the offer quiet for a couple of days because he is currently committed to another school."
Sounds a bit like weak sauce, IMHO.
I hope he signs in February, but if he decides to be close to home, or whatever, I get it.

Otherwise we best get used to this as we offer better talent/prospects. It's the price of doing business.

Thanks for the eye test scoop. I always appreciate comments from people that have actually been around the team and not just watched from a television screen. I would love to hear more comments from what you have seen. Even if you are not an expert on what you are actually seeing its cool to get eye witness information.

Heard rumblings of this but thats quite a shot to the midsection. It never feels good when a major program like this swoops in and grabs up a guy as an after thought. I would be very surprised if he doesnt accept their offer.

Oh man I really hope he sticks with the Hokies...How much do you wanna bet he moves up to 4 stars now as well?

If not for a few timely turnovers & special teams plays, would could have easily went 6-6 or 7-5 this year as well (see vs. Marshall)

That bothers me too. I'm hoping he decides to stick with the school that made him a priority, not an afterthought after all their other targets said no.

I don't really know much about it...but it just bugs me because sometimes I feel like people just think, oh, "Ohio State offered him. Of course he would go there instead of VT, who wouldn't?"

Pretty much everyone on 247 is predicting that too. Hopefully we can keep the Fab5 together, especially since he's probably one of our better prospects.

Easiest impact improvement is in the 3 point game.
We were abysmal last season. I have faith the young guys will pick up this game.

Run game, and I'm not joking on this point, our FB showed some nice lead blocking for the TD at the Sun Bowl. There's been some improvement that comes with experience. With the desire that guy shows coupled with the new year of bulk and technique training. I can see our FB leading through holes to lead block a power game. We also saw some success with sweeps, our FB might be fast enough to help TE's tack down the end of the D-line.

Kick returns. Our returns have not been good. It means that's another point where immediate success would have impact. It would also tie into CFB's strategic goal of field position gamesmanship.

Kicking - same thing. Some discipline in lanes and not getting over aggressive will shrink the opponent return average and assist in the point previous. I expect to se a bunch of this in Spring Practice.

Route running for WRs. A WR route is a manner of communication between the WR and QB. We didn't do it beginning of last year and is arguably one reason Thomas appeared to be bad early on. The WRs are going to have to be good at running the routes because a new QB is generally not going to be good at recognizing when the WRs are running lazy routes and adjust his target accordingly. If the WRs run better routes, which they did towards the end of the season, and catch with their fingertips instead of their chest, the short fast passing game will take some pressure off the new QB and running game which opens up the play action.

I think these are the easiest and fastest impacts we can make and are attainable.

My son plays for VT and I have been to every game, open practice & spring game for the last 3 years. From what I've seen during that time I believe after Mark gets first team reps' his timing, etc. will be much better. It was a pretty tough situation for him at the Sun Bowl, he had taken little or no first team reps' all year.
We'll all just have to wait until spring camp & see how he reacts to being the "man"!

That gif is perfect in just about every way!

Adding intrigue to the plot, with zero supporting evidence I'm going to rashly start the rumor that Saban is playing a long game here... he knows he's sitting on a powder keg, and he's bringing in known scum to take the fall for him in a few years.

Either that, or Kiffin has a photo of Saban pissing on the statue of Bear Bryant.

...and agreed completely on the "quixotic dream" as it also became a damning statement to the goal(s) of the program because of so many factors en route to a possible national championship berth...

To quote Reese Bobby, "...well said, grandson."

That's basically what "normal programs" should expect out of their two-star/walk-on players. I feel Hokies are a little spoiled when it comes to the Luther Maddy/Danny Coale/Jack Tyler/Cody Grimms of the world.
