Byrn fits a role right now. Knowles was most successful essentially on the same types of routes that Byrn excelled at. Knowles is better at getting himself open down field against man coverage, but far too often he had drops in traffic. This limits his value.
On film, Phillips reminds me of Stanford. Similar body type. Good route runner. But, he has a consistent hand-catcher and he has a knack for getting behind the defense. If Phillips blocks, I believe he will be an every down player next year.
One thing I found interesting in all of that is the fact that he's saying they would keep the divisions but not make it mandatory to play everyone in your division. If that's the case, what's the point of playing in divisions? Someone mentioned this before, but I think that the two top teams should only play under a set condition. It was mentioned on another board that if there is a team in the league that has a record that is 2 games or more better than the divisional champion, then they should play in the ACCCG. For example, if the Atlantic division has a team at 8-0 or even 7-1 in conference and then the second place team in the Atlantic is also 7-1, if the Coastal Division winner is 5-3 or worse, the 2nd place Atlantic team would play for the conference title. If the Coastal team is 6-2, they go. It needs to be an exception, not a "top two teams play regardless" rule.
We will encounter jerks in all walks of life...I certainly have a bunch of jerks at work. As long as they aren't doing anything illegal or getting in trouble, then we can tolerate it.

I agree, lets focus on JGlock on the field and on his film. We also have to remember is is what, 18 years old?
I'd have to see the final plan. But as a VT fan, this could decrease our chances of reaching the game rather than increase it; so I'd say I'm against it. Since teams won't have the same conference opponents, it will be interesting to see how ties are broken. I think since Miami hasn't panned out like the ACC had dreamed (FSU-Miami title games in Florida anyone??) and that the last 3 coastal title appearances have been made by VT, GT, Duke; I can see them making changes.
The ACC wants two top 15 or top 10 teams: like this year would have been FSU-Clemson. I don't think the ACC wants FSU-GT or FSU-Duke when neither is in the top 15 or higher. The easiest way to eliminate that is to cut the division ties and crowbar another team in.
I think the divisional alignment of the schedule and having the divisional winners play each other is the most evenly balanced way to the championship game. How would the ACC determine the two best? Conference Schedule, Total Schedule? College Football Playoff ranking? There are so many variables to that (See the BCS) that its nearly impossible to compare apples to apples.
If the ACC gets to start moving schedules around, would that mean we would have years where we didn't play LOLUVA? Seems like a real possibility if they made these changes.
Not a fan of the commissioner picking the top 2 teams even though that would have benefited us in two games. We would have played Wake twice instead of GT in the 2006 ACC CG and I think we would have played somebody else different than FSU in the inaugural ACC CG.
You know, something just occurred to me. Loeffler said that Malleck was a huge part of the offense and it was a blow to lose him before the season. I'm wondering if Loeffler was going to use Malleck as more of an H-Back like he used Lutzenkirchen at Auburn instead of up on the line more often than not. Lutzy was the lead blocker on the way to Mason running for 5+ YPC and 1000 yards when Auburn's offense was absolutely dreadful. I know we have Rogers to fill in at H-Back, but it wouldn't surprise me if Loeffler planned to use Malleck because he was a better technical blocker. That line of reasoning makes a lot of sense to me, as he had considerable success when using a good H-Back lead blocker at Auburn.
On a similar note, this year Malleck could be used similarly. Use Malleck at H-Back ad lead blocker from the backfield, then use Cline and/or Hodges on the line (depending who becomes the better blocking TE).
I'm not that big of a fan of the top two teams playing even if they're in the same division. That is unless you did away with divisions. It would actually make the schedules better, we wouldn't play FSU once every decade and we can still keep 4 OOC games.

I cant argue with you on this. Even if they went to a tiered pricing program to make things still affordable for all level of fans.
As an alumni, I am not ready to plop down $500 per ticket for a season basketball ticket for the dumpster fire that has been our program for the last several years. If they dropped the season ticket price to $250-$300, I would buy at least 2 tickets.

I agree with Stanford having more room to grow, I think Knowles is who he is at this point. There will always be a spot on the field for Willie Byrn; always. The guy is a smart player, great hands, and under-rated open field moves.

Something about the phrase "Worse Loss Ever by a Frank Beamer coached school" doesn't give me a good feeling. And yes, I know we beat them in Lane I was at both games.
I think that both Knowles and Stanford have a much higher potential then they are currently playing at as good athletes. Byrn is playing at or near his potential but his ceiling is much lower than the potential of the others. His good hands and willingness to work the center of the field might keep him getting time next year while I can see Knowles getting benched for a better athlete first.

Very true. Between the new AD and President there will certainly be interesting times ahead. My guess is within 3-5 years we will be looking for the next head coach too.

Tough for Columbus kids to turn down tOSU. Sucks that we might lose him, but if he is happier there than here; it works out for both parties.
I know about the perks, but it makes me wonder what all the other guys are getting as perks on top of the base salary. If Bud were truly upset about his situation (financial or otherwise), he'd be long gone. I think a show of good faith on the part of whoever the new AD will be would be good, though, to signal his importance to the program and the willingness of VT to pay him competitively. I'm certain we can afford it.
The Jet Sweep was a curious development. Its good to know it was part of a gameplan. I think watching VT's offense pre-Loeffler, it was hard to know there was a plan other than "stick-with-the-run".
I am excited. It is good to see that a foundation is being created by coaches who or suited for thier positions. This is providing some optimism for the offense going forward.
Totally agree about the WR group; exceeded expectations but could use some size/speed.
