IMHO this one point/post was key to understanding our season. Obviously against some squads this was less true and I think it opened up more options. Add in a new system, inexperienced RB, and we had an offense that was very easy to gameplan against.

Hope we sign some freshman who can change this dynamic. If not I hope some of these kids get into an aggressive and successful offseason workout regime that can elevate their physicality. Maybe speed is inborn in many, but you would be surprised how many guys can improve their speed and cutting ability with the right coach and focus. Speed is very complex from a muscle development and timing perspective. I am convinced too many don't work hard enough to develop it.

I agree but, that works both ways, if we could have put even a few more points it would have taken some pressure off & we could have overcome those setbacks, we had a lot of opportunities in a lot of games, but just did not turn them into points.

gotcha. Ok then next question, Alston said he asked for the switch to OL and feels more natural there. Was there anything from what you saw on his DL workouts that would lead you to believe he can become a monster on the OL?

If he stays in the program, Alston Smith may have stayed at defensive tackle and he would have likely been in the two deep this year.

Do you mean Alston Smith may not stay in the program?

Last news I heard, the school had short listed the group of design-build groups for the project. Unfortunately, the company I work for didn't make the cut.

It's a fair point, we do ok against OSU and it's not just Va kids. It wasn't long ago that we couldn't beat the big boys for anyone. We literally went a decade without getting a kid who ND also offered. Now we frequently go head to head with the best and win.

But the Brady Taylor recruitment is heavily rooted in his specific context.

Just need to hire a coach who can bring in good players of his own. This program is a dumpster fire right now, at least if we change coaches, we are one step closer to rebuilding. As long as JJ is still at the helm, we are just sinking deeper and deeper.

Oh yeah. Before the end of the season. We must position ourselves to pick early, not late, in the coach round table.

My comment was not specific to him. Just a perceived mindset that anyone who would be offered by tOSU would of course go these because people only go to VT if they have no other options.

Or at least sometimes I feel that's how people think.

There isn't a lot of history of kids from Ohio who grew up OSU fans picking VT if both options are available.

When I first saw that Grantham left UGA for Louisville, I was amazed that he would take a step down like that. Then I saw it was for $1 mil/year

Sorry, I couldnt resist. I appreciate all that frenchy does here, since I live in midst of indian river in brevard county,,fl, I really love the fishin stories! great stuff every week. Love this site!

that imagery.....MIND=BLOWN.

I'm definitely not hoping for Lane Kiffin, but I wouldn't mind an SEC bred AD and coaching staff. Either that or to get rid of that damn empty trophy case. Everytime I see it, it just feels like a distraction and like the program is trying to get ahead of itself. Yes it's important to have goals, but this is the way I feel it should be:
Short term goal = today's practice
Long term goal = the upcoming game

He has to force the staff to play him. That is it. Whatever the position, when he gets a rep in practice, he needs to dominate that rep. Until that happens, he will be in the same position. He doesn't have Barry Sanders and Jerry Rice in front of him. Opportunities are there.
