So we talk about Texas and OU and Michigan and USC, the various "rivalries"....the question is always "How many times can he lose to X before he's fired..." We also have heated discussions on who the real rivalries are in the ACC. Given this, what coaches (if any) could hypothetically have "Beat Virginia Tech" as a requirement for job security? I would think VT would be one of the schools standing in the way of any of the other ones being "back".

Let's hope he's using the Texas job to leverage a raise from Louisville. That program appears from the outside to know how to develop a team, hires good people, gives them control of their situation, and supports them. They're one of the most profitable programs in the country and one of the top revenue generators in all of college sports. They have a great basketball program and a very-good-and-still-rising football program with a huge corporate donor (The Papa). Strong should stay there as it is a better situation and he's already a very popular figure there.
Having said all that, I could see him leaving. It's Texas.
Vad Lee at GT was a losing battle, that much was clear throughout this season. As he said, he didn't really fit with the triple option that they ran. It would be too bad for him if CPJ left right after he decided to transfer, as I think he could be a pretty good QB in another system. With his improved running ability, he could be a dangerous dual threat guy, but the the decision making he displayed in the triple option wasn't great. He was clearly not comfortable in that offense.
CPJ can have success with this offense, but I think at this point his success in a major conference has run its course. Without a truly talented QB who fits that system and loves it, it won't go much further than this. There is no Demariyus Thomas on the roster to catch the 46 yard bombs they throw once a quarter, and there is no QB on the roster that can make the right decisions consistently (on top of taking the beating that they'll be taking by running so often).
It's too bad for Godhigh, as that guy is a beast. He's a great RB. Maybe they should wildcat the hell outta the triple option with him taking snaps.

Strong has a staff meeting set for 9:00 AM this morning. We'll know what he's doing pretty soon.

So right before I hit "Post" I went to his wikipedia page to see what else I could find and someone changed his position to the current Head Coach at Louisville. Go Figure.
Louisville is the type of place that would take a chance on Bud.
To me this is by far the most sensible post. Not to knock on anyone else's perspective or Leal's abilities but if he is our starting QB next season, I will lose all faith in our offensive direction.
We went all in on LT3 this yr and if he doesn't get hurt against UCLA Leal doesn't play at all. I still believe Leal is a good QB, he managed the game well and moved the chains for the most part given the environment. Forget meaningful snaps, consider almost getting ZERO snaps at all and then getting your number called in a bowl game when u've probably mentally closed the book on the season (I didn't even believe another human being could remove LT3 from the field). It's hard to be prepared; you don't get better at practice you get better in the game. I wouldn't completely assess his capabilities on one game, we learned not to do that with LT3 himself.
With all that and what not, if you are a new coach looking to establish your identity on a program, you need to move forward and start preparing for your future NOW. By starting a RS senior next year AGAIN, you're kicking the can down the road another year and this does not make any sense at all. Unless Leal projects to be championship QB next year (which for all my faith in his abilities I believe he is not) there is no point in starting him for one year. Take your knocks with the guy you believe in and get better going forward.
I'm not too worried about Bud foster. But I'm concerned about Moorehead , He's been a true Hokie since he came here and one Heck of a Recruiter and Coach.

So, does anyone think Nnadi will keep his reported appointment to visit UVA on January 31st?
DN, RW, and SS did very well in their respective post-season practices and games. I am really hoping Nandi verbals to Tech because that would give us an excellent DT haul for 2014. At least one of these three guys will play a lot next year, maybe two.
After hearing that him looking at Florida schools was due to family situations, I kind of gave him a pass. I'd love to have him, but if you need to be home to take care of bidness, then so be it.
If they all had a requirement to beat VT, about 10 would lose their jobs every year.
