QB play will be rough next year. This is the biggest unknown we have had at QB since Grant Noel.

The good news is that we have a schedule made for success. Miami, Pitt, BC and Wake will certainly be breaking in new QB's, probably Ohio St. ECU returns Carden, Duke returns both Boone and Connette and UNC returns Williams (damn recruiting miss!). Unfortunately for UVA, they return both of their QB's.

So even though will have QB problems next year, it will only put us at a true disadvantage against ECU, Duke and UNC. We will have a lot of swing games next year, probably (vs ECU, vs GT, vs Mia, vs BC, @UNC, @Duke, @Pitt) and one sure loss in the Ohio State game. A ball-control focus at the QB position is our best bet to continue the bowl streak.

Look guys I'm going to say this and stand by my opinion boldly. I'm a fan of the game first then a Hokie fan. I'm not a delusional fan and will never be. A loss is a loss I said it once before I don't believe in moral victories or feel goods. I've seen it before where others say well we had a lot of injuries and yes that is VERY true. In my book we still had to play the game with or without them hurt players don't stop the game.

How long have we known that Malleck was going to be out? I understand we had our two best db's on the team out, but how long have they been out? Just about the whole season right for Exum and half of it for Kyle. It was a tough break, but injuries happen all the time and its apart of the game, but I refuse to listen to others say well we loss, because we had too many players hurt that's an a excuse whether you want to admit it or not that's what it is! I don't want to hear excuses we got beat bad whether its on the offense or defense I don't care who anyone wants to blame it on individually. Its a team sport has always been and will always be! We came into this game unprepared and have been for the past few years before the coaching changes. I know this is harsh and it may make some mad and that's not my intentions I'm tired of everyone blaming it on recruiting and lack of offensive talent. If that's the case then why was our defense scored on the way it was during the game? Haven't we recruited better talent than offense...oooh but wait it goes back to the injuries and every other excuse in the world. I don't want to hear Beamer didn't miss that tackle or drop that ball because coaches are fired every day for the players performance...That's just the way the game is. I'm not blaming it on Beamer, but to some degree if you change all of the pieces around the HC and nothing changes then what? I'm not at all mad at the new coaches or Beamer both of them for that matter. This is to delusional fans all I ask is if your a fan of football be fans of football before being fans of VT. Because I will call it how I see it and its my opinion I respect others on here and will never attack or go after anyone on here. This isn't a rant after any particular fan here. I'm just saying how I've felt about this past game and past 5 years I am just tired of excuses for not playing up to standards that we want to see from VT year in and year out. And once again this is not about the new coaches that was or has been hired. I'm not displeased with VT so please if this post sets people the wrong way I apologize, but that's not my intentions but please don't say something like you should stop watching VT play, when I've been following this program since I was a 8 year old.

Sorry Hokies If anyone is offended I had to say this...Whether you agree or not with what I just said that's fine but you may not like me after saying this but just respect the way I feel.

GO HOKIES can't wait till spring.

There aren't a whole lot of teams with winning records in bowl games/against elite teams. That's the downside of making it to really good bowls. You play really good teams. Every game is its own unique animal, completely different team, completely different opponent, everything. You really can't generalize and say we should win more cause we're in more. Heck, Peyton Manning has a losing record in the playoffs. It's a fact: you lose more against very good teams.

not to mention he should not have been playing the rest of the game - Insult to injury.. (literally)
& somehow HeyVerne had NO PROBLEM pronouncing his Fd-up name!

the whole game made me feel like...

Agreed, if he wins the job, I hope we base the offense on his skill set and commit to him. I really hope he's good enough to earn that position and let us redshirt the two freshmen.

I see Motley as a better version of JuJu Clayton, he will function as a backup but if there is a systemic failure from Leal or an early season-ending injury, one of the freshman will start.

Yeah, Malleck has become a bit of a Babe the Blue Ox around here. He was a very solid player last year, but he also struggled blocking. I remember specifically the Clemson game where he struggled on some key blocks.

And he's nothing special as a receiver. Cline, on the other hand, will become a key threat as a receiver. I think they complement each other well and I hope Bucky and Burke add to the TE corps.

frankly, we need another TE. I would like to see a late offer to a TE or try to poach one from someone else's commit list.

It's one thing for us to quietly agree, but it can't help the program when those guys are bashing us on national TV. Recruits see that, opposing coaches see that and point recruits to it, etc. Hopefully our guys can prove them wrong (Holtz belongs in a home at this point anyways).

I like the ham/chicken salad analogy. That made me chuckle. And it's completely right. Over the last few years, our offense has been mediocre, but capable of big, explosive plays. This year's team wasn't set up to do that OR run the offense that Lefty wanted to implement. I'm excited to see what happens this spring and next fall. Should be a fun time for Hokie football.

Is Holland Fisher confirmed? That guy has amazing upside...I think he will be a big player for us if he stays committed.

I'd be ok with it but it looks/feels like its the exact opposite way that we are trying to go. Look at Loeffler and the way he wants to play, he wants to be stanford, have a good Pro style, with a little zone read option. Stanford's QB Hogan is exactly what Lefty wants.

The last 5 games Hogan went:

14-25 for 127 2 Int's in a loss to USC
17-26 for 329 5 TD's 0 Int's win vs Cal
12-18 for 158 1TD 2 Int's win vs ND
12-18 for 277 1TD 0 Int's win vs ASU
10-18 for 143 0 Td's 1 Int vs MSU

Not to mention they rushed for over 1000 yards in 5 games. Yes its Stanford and they have a huge OL and Fb, but the consistency is what we need and Leal to me doesn't fit that mold at all.

yep...I am scared S%^%less about our LB group for next year. We are desperately weak there. We so need some real Mike back step up. Watching Stanford in years past and UCLA Wednesday really made me miss Tyler next year and our past years of hard hitting Mike backs.

I will most likely get downvoted or verbally panned for saying this. Yes he has some major character flaws but he was still one of my favorite players. He disappointed me and hurt my feelings but I wish everyone one here would stop shitting all over him.

agreed. Wow...If he were to transfer to VT and be able to play, it would immediately change things. He is a gamer and I think he would bring our level of RB, TE, and WR up. That type of talent would really show the lack of true QB play we have seen. He would fit what Loeffler wants to do like a glove.

With someone like him along with the in coming spring additions and hopefully our prep school guys we could be in great shape next year.

Dreaming aside: I hope Leal can get his barrings or Ford step up and play with a chip on his shoulder.

I bet BOB told him after he took the job that he would do everything he could to take him in the draft when CHack comes out... just spitballin here...

Absolutely. He went to Penn State because he felt Bill O'Brien is be the best possible coach to prepare him for a career in the NFL (O'Brien was the OC for the Patriots before he took the PSU job). Now that he's gone, it's quite possible that he would be interested in leaving.

Being a division 1 athlete I would like to share some insight that I have had while playing. There's this saying that goes a long way and it is" Don't pick the school you want to play for, instead pick the asshole that will bring you down, tear you apart but be right there with you celebrating that NC". This is sooo true, my college coach was an absolute punk, I hated him so much but for some reason he was one of the best coaches ever, we went on to win the NC in men's soccer in 2010.

Look at Les Miles, Nick Saban, kevin sumlin.... I'm sure they are absolutely brutal in practice and games but they can also show the kind warm CFB side to them, but at some point that warm, kind CFB kind will only get you so far.. I'm not saying treat them like crap but sometimes.. "You'll have to get after them"..

I still think Danny Coale made that catch. That Sugar Bowl was taken from us, we didn't lose it.
