CFB can evolve all he wants, but he can't tackle for his defenders or catch for his receivers or block for his linemen or kick for his kickers.

But isn't the job of the coaching staff to prepare the kids to do those things, and to motivate them to do those things at 100% effort for 60 minutes? If they're not playing their best, part of the blame may rest with the coaching staff.

Shhhhhhh! Don't let word get out.

I was just thinking of great VT db's that were not currently in the NFL.

Well, Cline had zero career catches coming into this season, soo...

Like I said, he was an under-utilized weapon in the passing game. Loeffler was impressed enough with him to basically design his offense around him and Thomas. Lefty went so far as to say that not having Malleck and being forced to rely on Cline & co. severely limited the playbook and the development of the offense. Cline is and will be a very solid player, especially as a pass-catching TE, but Malleck was and is the more well-rounded player and would have been a very big part of the offense this year.

Look for Bucky Hodges to round out the TE group as a receiving TE. He has been getting TE/WR reps on the scout team since October IIRC, and has looked very good. A swap to TE for an athlete with his size from a suddenly large group of QB's with the new class coming in makes a lot of sense.

I was more upset that DJ was flagged and the LOLUVA defender wasn't. In the NFL they're starting to review film and penalize the instigator. I think that needs to hurry up and trickle down to the NCAA.

I was under the impression that Hodges got work on the scout team as a TE and has played great. I think it's likely he swaps to TE this spring, especially with the QB talent we have coming in meaning he likely won't see any/many snaps as a QB.

FWIW, Clarke was dressed for the game on Monday. It appears at this point that his suspension is over.

I know its LOLuva and all but was I the only one who was actually really frustrated with DJ when he got flagged for that?

Yes, yes he did. I just can't get over how much he was praised for it. For the NCAA to crack down so much on these types of hits and eject guys for much cleaner hits, this was completely unacceptable. What's worse is how much the announcers/media have either ignored it or glorified it. Heck, this guy was ESPN's unsung hero of the game for his "big hit on Thomas." Disgusting.

Antone doing that will always stick out to me. Even if it didn't, I'm too scared of being hit by a hoof to try and eat you....

We have to remember that Logan looked great when he had a running back putting up 1700+ yards. (Wilson)
The last two years have been Coleman, Holmes, Edmunds...no running game whatsoever....that is why Logan has looked bad the past two years.
The criticism has been unfair for the most part.

Edmunds is a running back. I do think Hodges will be a tight end going into spring.

Wait suddenly we have enough depth at Tight End to be redshirting players? Dont think that will be a luxury that we have for a couple more years.

I would disagree with your point. Look at Georgia they had a sick team, maybe even SEC NC team and the injury bug started to hit and they couldn't get healthy from then on. Its not like it was 1-2 guys going down. but more like 6-7 and in different games. Kyle, Exum, Malleck, Cline, Logan, Edmunds, Wang, and many more. You can't expect to recruit 3-4 starting quality players in every position to win. So yeah injuries definitely hurt this team, it would have been a different outcome for sure. Practice is Practice and game speed is much more different than the speed at practice no matter how much you try to emulate it.

Cam Phillips will immediately challenge the top of the depth chart. And Harrison too if we can please oh holy god keep him committed through signing day.

Free Safety makes so many calls on defense that even if one of the freshmen were more talented than Bonner I doubt they would be able to align the defense the way he can. Bonner's deficiencies are only really highlighted when everything else goes to hell. Foster can usually scheme around his weaknesses.

I'm still absolutely furious that the hit on LT3 wasn't targeting. I've been hearing UCLA fans (and even a few tech fans) say it was a clean hit, but that's a complete load of garbage. Here's a tweet from Will Stewart with a very telling picture. I couldn't agree more. *rant over*

Once again...Your speaking to me as if I don't know the game of football sir didn't we know that list before we play the game? This goes back to what I'm saying every year its always an excuse. There's no excuse for losing besides calling it what it is....a loss. If we would have beaten UCLA this wouldn't be a issue with injuries. In fact it wouldn't be a issue at all. Teams have great players get hurt every year and those players step up injuries are going to happen its apart of the game, but I won't use it as an excuse to say its holding this team back...And PS3 game lol sir....smh please stop with all of the analogies...lol that was good though I must admit!

Good blocker, yes absolutely. But 17 career catches doesn't exactly prove your worth in the passing game over a guy like Kline.
