I don't disagree with the helmet to helmet idea (and posting a gif is fine as far as i know, as long as you don't remove someone's ownership watermark), but when the replay was shown during the game I specifically looked for that and didn't think I could prove the helmet to helmet hit (unlike the hit the guy laid on JC late in the game, which was clearly head first).
No matter how you slice it, I fully agree with your point that the guy was a headhunter and he was going high all game long. CBS kept showing him on the sideline without his helmet on and the two things I noticed were that he had blood on his forehead, which I presumed came from - you guessed it - his helmet smashing into his forehead, and that he looked like a meathead.
Having said all that, I don't want to spend too much emotional energy on this topic, because it does rile me up a bit. I thought it should have been an ejection, but I think the refs hedged their bets by giving it a personal foul without the ejection. They thought it was bad, I thought it was bad, and it resulted in Logan being out for the game, which resulted in the end of Logan's college career and put a serious damper on the competitiveness of the bowl.
Great job Logan! It took ~40 games for someone to hit him hard enough to make him come off the field; which is amazing for a QB who was asked to pound it up the middle of the field continuously. We never heard anything negative about Logan off the field; obviously a class-act. His sophomore year was definitely the most exciting and should have resulted in a Sugar Bowl victory (if it wasn't for a bad call). He deserves a ton of credit for the past two years. Yesterday showed what our offense is without Logan; Logan = VT's Offense for the past two years. Hopefully Logan does get a chance in the NFL (whatever position that may be). Logan is a great athlete and wonderful representative of VT.

The guy had 4 pass attempts (all against WCU) coming into this game, because you refuse to play him in real game situations. If you really expected more from him, then you should've played him more or prepared him better. Good coaches don't blame players.
Leal as many completions on his first 3 passes than Logan had all game...and generally looked sharp when running the system designed for him (short-intermediate quick hitting passes). But fell apart when trying to run the slow developing handoffs (personally I think those pages of the playbook should be burned) and long 5-7 step drop passes (for a guy with a perceived weak arm). Look at the first "INT": we had 8 people blocking, they rushed 5, Leal had 0 time to throw, scrambled for his life and made a bad decision (trying to do too much). CFB should be blaming the OL (or Grimes for that).
Did Leal look as bad as Logan in the Duke game?...nope. Did CFB throw Logan under the bus after that game?...nope.
Lastly CFB preaches loyalty. This comment goes directly against that. Leal is the definition of loyalty. Career backup patiently waiting his chance (not complaining ala Ike when he wasn't getting playing time).
Sorry for the long comment....but I've got a lot of ire about this game, the coaches preparation and CFB taking no credit for the loss. He's a great coach and I'm grateful for all he's done, and my feeling about this will pass (magically right around the start of spring camp)...but right now I'm disappointed.
Only hip thrust, at most, twice. Key and Peele proved that a third hip thrust results in a flag.
Wright, Mangus, and Parker were bright spots I didn't expect to see. Well, I've liked Mangus all season and have thought we should get him the ball more. But Wright, in particular, looked more like a RB than a FB.
Clark seemed like a liability in coverage.
Our defensive line missed so many tackles for loss.
The entire Rogers family is legendary. Someone call his phone, he was just mentioned on TKP.

Good insight. The QB battle in the spring should be interesting. And I agree with you, in spite of his shortcomings, Coach Beamer has earned the right to go our on his own terms. GO HOKIES!!!!!

I was not disappointed by the outcome of this game. It was pretty much our 2nd team defense and it showed. I'm not worried about next season either. The play calling has improved and Ford or Durkin will step up this spring. We have a great recruiting class for the first time in years. Things are moving in the right direction. It's time to be patient and let the coaches work. Happy New Year and Go Hokies!!!
I totally agree I thought the line played well. Jerome ran well, I wish he had more touches.
I love Edmunds and he did play well this season but if Williams comes in spring and plays well I say we should consider LB. We have limited depth there and he is a beast.

I completely agree. Yesterday was soooo difficult to watch. We desperately need a QB to step up. Leal looked like he was drowning most of the game. We need our skill players to break out. I do have to say that I thought Jerome Wright did pretty good. He made some decent cuts and picked up yardage then they put Coleman back in. Also Mangus looked good when he returned the ball. I was impressed with his toughness. I just hope and pray our January arrivals step up and make an immediate impact.
Yes I do. He's right to a certain extent but he's got zero business and it certainly isn't classy of him to say that. He's not the one suiting up.
Someone here said it best (paraphrasing), "Duke going to the ACC Championship: it's cute once, but if it becomes routine then it gets annoying." Miami is not back, GT's offense will only take them so far, UNC can be a threat (albeit inconsistent), Pitt could be a factor, and Virginia will always be #LOLUVa. I say there's a good chance we make a serious run at the Coastal title next year. But I'd be shocked if FSU doesn't win the Atlantic, and probably the ACC again.
Honestly, from a purely momentum standpoint, we were in it until about midway through the 3rd. In order for us to gain and/or keep momentum we undisputably had to score a TD in the 3rd and needed to do it before the bruins. I got the feeling from the continuous stalled drives and failure to convert opportunities to score points that it wasn't gonna happen. And it played it like it always does.
I will probably get downvoted for stating this but I'm personally glad that Duke shat the bowl. If they hadn't then the perception out there would be that Duke is on our level (or worse) had passed us in football. I'm absolutely not #goacc unless we're top dawg.
This was one of the greatest runs I've ever seen and really defines the career of Logan Thomas. Its a shame he wadnt able to finish the game. I don't know if it would have made a defference but I think we would have stayed in the game. Certainly would not have thrown the ball behind his back for a pick 6. The defense was very disappointing in this game, they didn't look focused or prepared to play. Hope one of those freshmen QB's is ready to play, I'd not it will be a long season.
