Care to elaborate? I've seen others say this and I'm just curious to know why everyone thinks Bud will suddenly turn it around. That said, I do believe Bud deserves the HC job after Beamer, but I don't think there's anything magic that will happen because of it. Either Bud or Frank could do it, in my opinion, if recruiting stays at a high level.

And...I used to think we'd keep it close against a Texas A&M or FSU (closer than most), but towards the end of this game I saw a few things. Hundley lulled us to sleep and then started throwing it up deep towards the end, with success. The one touchdown they threw on every down, and then ran it in on the last play basically untouched. Our kids were focused on the game plan (stop the run, take some short passes if necessary), but got blinders on. Maybe youth, maybe our tactic was used to their advantage, etc. I don't know. Some things to work on before the next big game.
Yeah, we actually had 4 freshman playing in the secondary if you count Greene. Our D wasn't nearly as good as it was when we had a healthy Kyle Fuller on the field, too. Help is on the way, we have a good recruiting class coming in and hopefully we'll be back to 10 win seasons in a few years. Next year could be painful for us unless we have a good QB emerge.

Clemson showed well last year I believe. If FSU is the only team to pull out a win this year, I think it goes toward proving that winning the ACC & undefeated is still a title worthy accomplishment.
I keep thinking 'ol Cutcliffe will be on list of potentials for that Texas job. If he nearly took down A&M with his dookies, just imagine what he could do with a team full of studs.
Says something about aTm that they were in so many games like this where Manziel had to bail them out (or they were in so deep he couldn't).
These are great pictures. Also a very good variety of players/scenes. I thought for a second the parachute guy was landing on KF until I saw the picture break. You also reminded me of the "Who's Carliss Parker?" song everyone was playing every time there was a jet sweep.
I really want to get a good camera...I haven't been happy with cameras since film went away, but then I haven't spent the $$$ or $$$$ to get a really good one. Slap some 400 speed Fujifilm or Kodak in one of those old bad boys, I could photograph anything. At least I can preview on the digital cams and the film doesn't run out after 24 shots.
Sometimes I wonder if they announcers are watching the same replay they are showing us at home.
I especially like the ESPN guys in other games that are "sure" something "clearly" happened (catch, step, etc.) until the Ref or Replay official contradicts, then "yes, yes, it's obvious it wasn't a catch, I saw it all along".
I don't know, I thought he looked pretty good (considering) up until the push pass first INT.
Instant Edit: He completed some nice passes, was somewhat evasive, and I applaud him for stepping up to the situation. He could have handed it off to JCC up the middle every time, but he wasn't afraid to pass and try to make something happen, whatever the result.
I wonder if Frank is just trying to light/stoke a fire under his future QB(s) with those conflicting comments.
I agree with you. Stanford is more dependable. And he got better as the yr went along
I didn't see a topic, but I'll put this here... A few close hits is one thing - somebody moves a shoulder at the last minute, the running back lowers his head, etc...but it seems like EVERY TIME they mentioned Zumwalt they had to question if it was helmet-to-helmet or worse. That seems like more than a coincidence.
Hopefully most of us in Hokie Nation and especially on this site will let him know (@Lthomas_3) on Twitter what he means to the school and this program. From a football perspective, I am DAMN proud of this young man, for the hits he took on AND OFF the field, and he should know he is/should be (and I hope will be) a treasured member of Hokie Nation and should consider himself a proud and respected leader of the football team he steered for the past three damn years.

Beamer surprisingly declared Leal the "next guy in line here" after the game, despite what many think will be an open quarterback competition in the spring.
"Im disappointed that Mark didnt play better," Beamer said. "Ive got a lot of confidence in him. I think theres a lesson in there: Be ready to play each and every week. ... And he did a couple things really nice and really good and made a couple throws that werent so good. But youve got to be ready to step up."
Does anyone else think this is a bit harsh on a backup qb who basically never got any snaps up to this point? Especially from Beamer. He's very rarely this critical of individual players. He has never said "I'm disappointed that Logan didn't play better." I guess this is a sign that we are starting a younger qb next year?
With this loss, the acc is looking more pathetic than ever. Terrible bowl record, not a great way to earn respect.

Wright looked solid, but you could definitely see he looks more like a fullback than a full-time tailback. Still, I wouldn't have said no to seeing him carry the ball a bit more today, given the circumstances.
For starters, everyone needs to calm their collective tits and realize that, like we've been saying since February, this isn't going to be fixed in one year. Maybe not even two. Patience. Give the new coaches time to extinguish the dumpster fire left behind by the old staff (staring right at you, Newsome), recruit their own players (football players, not just "athletes"), and coach them properly. No matter who comes in, there's no way a 5th year senior should say he learned more in the first 3 months with a new coach than he did in 4 years with the old one. Unacceptable.
Also, while tackling all over could have been better, there's only so much you can do schematically when you have THREE FREAKING TRUE FRESHMEN in the secondary. They were confused the whole game, which isn't surprising. I know this looks similar to other games, but this is a completely different (and extremely young) team that was going against a much more talented, not to mention healthy, opponent. Relax, let the coaches do their jobs, give the young guys time to mature, and thank whatever deity you pray to (if any) that a "down" or "rebuilding" year still includes 8 wins.

This might be because it's only three hours into 2014, but Stanford easily gets the nod over Knowles. Knowles is fast, but I feel like #5 has proved himself enough and earned his place to be above Knowles on the depth chart after 2013.
And CBS. Despite some announcer/replay angle issues, I don't know how the other networks did their bowls this year, but it was refreshing to me that there wasn't a banner running across the bottom of the screen, or in-game pop-up adds, or a fake scoreboard graphic hovering over the stands. For sure they were selling their shows when it was quiet, but I could see the game without junk all over the screen. Wish I could have seen a play clock....
