Yep
I just don't see how it's possible to rank high school players. These are kids playing in different systems and with different levels of talent around them (both on their own team and their opponents). I mean, if we cannot even agree on how to rank 125 FBS schools, how can we rank high school kids?
I guess, the one thing that irks me about the list is that it does not really go into why any of these kids are rising or dropping.
Seems to me that its time to rethink things from an ACC overall standpoint. They were fine with Miami and FSU playing each other every year in the ACC title game, even stupidly putting the game location in Florida for the first 3 years (appearances by Miami in that time...ZERO, FSU..1). So the game moves to North Carolina. Clemson becomes a legit contender and Miami drifts into being an afterthought and all the sudden you drop dreadful Maryland (yep, know they beat us this year, just acknowledge they were dreadful the entire 10 years of the title game era) and they are thinking "This is looking top heavy for the Atlantic, we gotta move things". As a VT fan, part of me wants to see ranked teams more frequently, so I am fine with re-aligning and getting shots at FSU, Clemson, or up-and-coming L'Ville sooner. Presidential terms are shorter than the time between FSU visits to Lane. BUt if a National Title and ACC title game apperances get this program further along; would it not be better to just keep the Coastal titles going, shots at the top ranked Atlantic team in the title game, and possible playoff births as is?
You cannot put the value of seeing Paul Johnson's sour-puss face on a spreadsheet. Keep them in Bud's crosshairs, he owns them.
Well yeah, I don't think he ever used the QB power or anything, but the veer/IV and playaction off of that (thinking of Cline in the endzone against BC currently) was the type of role I'd anticipate Durkin having, if any, this year.
Just checked the calendar, its 2013, I'd say its time to get over themselves.
Manti Teo's girlfriend would agree..if she was real
True, but what I'm saying is...with Thomas in the game in the red zone this year, SL rarely or never used the Tebow or Bell-style runs. Sometimes he ran the read option or IV and Logan would run up the middle, but that was just our regular offense.
Seems to me that if he wanted to run the Tebow and Bell-type of plays in the red zone he would have done so this year with LT3.
"Hi, I'm 2013 Duke Football, have we met?"
I've got a few stories...
Bryan Randall was selling bracelets near Owens for a fundraiser (similar to the Livestrong bracelets) in 2004. I bought one from him and talked to him for a few minutes...absolutely one of the nicest and most humble guys I've met.
I was walking into D2 and a guy with a VT jacket held the door open for me, turns out is was Frank Beamer. I was caught off guard, he was real nice and made conversation with me while we went up the escalator, then he went to the right where the team was eating and I went left. Real nice guy and real funny, although I can't remember what he said.
Lastly, not a player or coach but when ESPN College Gameday was in bburg for the 2005 Miami game, their morning show (i think it was called "Cold Pizza") was there too. We were hanging out behind the set and Woody Paige and Desmond Howard came up and talked to us, they were pretty cool dudes just joking around. I think they were shooting a commercial so they were wearing a shirt, tie, and jacket on top but shorts & flip-flops on the bottom. Man I'm jealous of their jobs.
Blue collar work > Blue Chip stars
I agree it looks good, nice to see the seeds of change are starting to bare fruit.
Admittedly, if he was going to have a redzone QB, it'd be Thomas anyways. The thing is, Thomas was also our best non-redzone QB too. I think having a short yardage/redzone QB as a changeup would be just one way Lefty is trying to replace Thomas.
I love this picture.
He really rivals Chuck Amato for being the biggest breast in college football.

I've seen all the posts about Durkin being the redzone QB...I don't think he'd leave MSU for immediate playing time if his role was going to be that limited. I don't see anyone getting to the NFL without being a full-time QB at the college level, not just a red zone specialist.
Also...I don't think SL plans to use a QB the way Bell / Connette are used in the red zone. I would imagine if he plans to have that be part of his offense then we would have seen more of it this year - LT3 is certainly the right mold for those type of plays.
I think it's a great pickup and I hope the best man wins, but so far Ford looks better IMO.
Facyson
Fuller
Forget it. Just punt.
If you've ever played Kerbal Space Program, built an awesome rocket, launched it, waited til it got 5000 meters or so in the air, then turned it upside-down and put the throttle up to full, you should have a pretty good idea of how LOLUVA drops.
Didn't we tell Travon McMillan we'd give him a shot at QB as well?
I'm all for getting the best player under center, but this does seem completely out of the blue.
Never a bad idea bringing in talented football players. Great pull, regardless if he pans out at QB. Getting guys to leave Ohio is never easy. Getting them to go from Big 10 committ to ACC committ is no small feat either.
This kid has a noticeably thick lower body, and is very powerful and fast. Maybe Loeffler liked what Duke did with the Anthony Boone / Brandon Connette combination?
I could see this Chris Durkin kid being the red zone and short yardage QB.
Saw this and thought "Hmm... Tebow to VT coaching staff"?
When I saw the committment, I was just perplexed. Then I realized that this kid's gonna be Blake Bell/Brandon Connette/Collin Klein/Tim Tebow 2.0. Loeffler spent so much of last year running the inverted veer that I imagine he'd like to keep that going, but he can't do that with Leal.
True multiple offense - find mismatches and exploit them. Adjust as necessary.
Bucky is going to tight end If he were a QB we would not have two coming in.
HS rankings become silly (oh no SIX SPOTS) he is still going to a top school with a great chance of starting as a true freshman.
Coaches perceive ALL recruits as works in progress. Its rare a kid comes in 'game ready' (i.e. B Facyson . Ke Fuller)
The stats are subjective - coaches are projecting what the kid will look/play like 2 years down the road.
GO HOKIES

There are THREE coming in with McMillian.
