I always thought the same thing about football players, but I saw MV7 in West End - whatever the sports bar part was called - and he really wasn't all that big. I was expecting a much bigger person. I saw Marcus up at the NRV Mall once, again, not a real big guy. Pretty thick, but he didn't strike me as big.

I have only had a few passing encounters with players and coaches. I walked past LT on my way from the Litton-Reaves lot one time and was struck by just how huge the guy is. Despite ESPN's constant reminders, I had never truly appreciated just how built he is. I swear he produced a shock wave just by walking at a normal pace.

The one and only time I ran into Frank Beamer was similarly brief, but really cool. He walks down around the Duck Pond each day, and being a biochem major and living in Engel, I would occasionally see him while in my car, on the bus, etc. One day, he was walking right at me and we exchanged just a few words, small talk without breaking stride, but he lived up to his billing as a genuinely nice guy. He had no idea who I was, but took a few moments to chat.

Denise (Deron's mom) was the coolest. She came into my store a few times, talked about being a teacher and being relocated from N.O. She's a sweetie.

I fixed Darryl Tapp's watch once at work. Nicest guy you'll ever meet. All smiles. Even when he came back in because I didn't fix it right the first time.

You may have beat him to the bus, but I doubt you knocked it over when you arrived like he probably did.

Agreed. And at the end of the 40 is Stephen Morris.

Knock him as hard as Dadi does, and you win.

I've told this story here before, but it's all I've got, so I'm telling it again..
I was at a rugby party and Kevin Jones shows up. The rugby guys convinced him to tackle me (I was in crutches) and I flipped a judo move and ended up on top of him. When he and his roommate left, they took me with them and we drove around talking, looking for the Gumbys delivery car. KJ hopped out and said, "do you know who I am?"
Pizza guy was like, "shit, yes!"
KJ was like, "so what's up with those Pokey Sticks?"
Pizza guy, "Man, they're yours!"
So we ate Pokey Sticks and Demetrius and KJ tried talking me into joining Kappas.
It was the greatest Hokie night of my life.

I think you need to prove it to us, with 40yd dash challenge against him.

Dadi Nicholas lives near me and we frequently catch the same bus to campus. One time we were running late and we both had to run to catch it. Much as been said on here about his speed and athleticism, but I totally beat him to the bus.

I actually do remember a story now I had, my family was driving around the campus and we drove into the bookstore parking lot, when we got in the lot my dad saw Logan Thomas sitting in a car and he yells "HEY RY IT'S LOGAN THOMAS" and I guess his windows were open and he kind of gave us a funny look

Justin Taylor left the team after Spring Ball. He either transferred or quit; don't remember which. Roth played in 4 games, I think, before suffering a head injury. He hasn't played in a long time, and is no guarantee...

Dooley is the one to watch out for. he is 6-5" 250 and can move. apparently, he was a beast this past season on the scout team...

Whenever I encounter an obnoxious Clemson fan around Richmond, I leave them with the remark, "Gamecocks just scored again."

You better believe they'd give up some (if not all) of their recent wins against us, to not have such a big losing streak against South Carolina.

It's taken me 4 years, but I've seen Frank Beamer walking around campus 3 times this year and geeked out every time. I saw JVZ around Turner (the new dining hall) a lot last year when I had a meal plan. And I saw James Gayle at Macado's a couple weeks ago. Number of words said?
awkhawk

I used to work at bed bath and beyond with Logan Thomas' girlfriend...never managed to meet any of the players through that.

Found out one of the girls in my graduate program is roommates with Alexander Ziegler. She's graduating next week so I doubt I'll be able to parlay that into anything.

So I called the SC DMV and they informed me there is a process to get one, have to have a group of some kind request it and pay around 6,000 to get them started. They also need SC legislative approval. So my first task upon moving to SC is find a group of Hokies to get this done. No reason that FSU, NCST,Ohio State, Bama, UNC, APP State and GT have one but not VT.

I've got a few, but my most memorable have to be becoming pals with a random chick I knew at work, who just happened to be Cedric Humes' girl. She knew I was a gigantic Hokie fan and surprised me for my birthday by giving me her cell phone and saying talk.

Ced wished me a happy birthday and gave me his "super iron Hokie" tshirt.

I still wear it to this day for every home game.

That and my sister dated (and got close to making me a part of Hokie royalty) Greg Burnop.

No actual stories, just a lot of seeing them around. Had a psych recitation with David Wilson, who is a very classy fellow.

Saw Sean Glennon at west end once. Didn't realize how huge football players really are till I stood next to him.

There was one night that Ryan Williams showed up at like every party I went to. I know he doesn't drink, but he was just hanging out with some friends, and every time I left a party to go to another, Ryan Williams would show up a few minutes later.

A couple years ago I saw Tyrod and Kam Chancellor in sharkies right after Kam got elected to the Pro bowl.

Seeing Erick Green walking around campus, and being the only person you're talking to who even knows who he is, is weird.

Earlier this semester I ate lunch with my old roommate. Walked into West end and saw Trey Edmunds and Donovan Riley eating in the fighting Gobbler. I commented that they are both solid young players. Kept walking and saw Bud Foster and Kendall Fuller. I freaked out quietly to myself while my roommate walked by oblivious.

phillip sims being shown the door AND thrown under the bus, changed that.

VT has been working to get back in the good graces of morgan ... i think you'll see that soon.

brown was only at OS for 2 yrs, he isn't your typical OS or breds guy, btw.

I missed out on this, but it made my family into big Cody Grimm fans.

5 years ago, when my sister was touring Tech, she
and my parents sat at a random table in D2. It turns out, Cody Grimm and a couple of other football players were already sitting at the table, but they didn't mind having my family sit there. They were incredibly nice, and even included my sister - telling her she should come to Tech, asking what major she liked, all of it. Really classy.

Then, one of them asked if she was going to see the latest Harry Potter movie. Another responded with, "I dunno guys, it looks pretty dark..." and then they all just ripped on him for it... "What are you, afraid of the dark...??" Nothing nasty, just good clean fun that had my family laughing.

Now that's a classy group of Hokies right there.

I got dunked on by Deron Washington at War gym during one of the summer sessions back in the day. It wasn't a shaming like Greg Paulus took. He showed me some mercy, so it was an honor.
