Winston should have won it and did win it. Being a Heisman also takes account for winning and losing. FSU is undefeated and wouldn't be had it not been for Winstons great play this yr as a freshman. Williams was a 1 yr wonder to me on a average BC team
i think the heisman is just whoever the media is in love with the last couple of weeks of the season. i also think the media are way more interested in it than most fans are. i really dont think fans who dont have a horse in the race really care, but all you hear all season long is heisman heisman heisman. i've never been at a tailgate or watched a game at someone's home and had someone who i considered and actual fan of college football start talking about who was gonna win the award.
I've been following this kid since high school and I've actually read a lot of good things about him when it comes to leadership skills and work ethic. Outside of the super-crush ESPN has on him, the FSU jersey, and the rape accusations, where the accusers told about 3 different stories to the media, I have no negatives against him.
Ron Dayne won the Heisman over Vick because of his career rushing yards. His highest season rushing total wasn't even that year, it was his freshman year. I'm glad the award is going to freshman now, but pissed it didn't start with Vick.
Maybe he told them he'll be leaving after next year and they'll get a better coach.

While the Thoroughbreds relationship is questionable, at this point it is more speculation. Is the Head Ball Cop playing the race card? Possibly. Is he pitching to these kids the fact that he used to be a cop and can act as a quasi-father figure to them? He would be stupid not to. But any other discussion about improprieties is useless without hard evidence.
I think the bigger element at play here is that a lot of these top recruits know they're great and feel pretty confident that they're going to make it to the NFL regardless of where they play their college ball. Remember, Andrew Brown was just named Gatorade National High School Player of the Year. Clearly these kids, in particular, are wired differently than those who are great HS players and want to win college National Championships. In my opinion, this is where their egos play the largest role. I think guys like Brown and Quin Blanding are drawn by CML's pitch of, "Come be responsible for the turnaround here at UVA. You will be legends forever."
Given his track record, most of us see CML selling a false bill of goods. But I believe that these kids would rather be the few key individuals responsible for a turnaround and future success, rather than one of many responsible for success at a big time program. Part of it is CML's ability to convince/manipulate the kids, part of it has to do with their own life experiences and the fact that everyone has been patting them on the back for 4+ years telling them how damn good they are. After a while, it becomes who you are, and its hard for someone like Coach Beamer to convince them otherwise.

Go look at how we did in 3rd/4th and short situations against Duke and BC and tell me if you really think the OLine and RB pieces were in place.

agreed. goodness we were horrible in 2012. we weren't great in 2013 but logan at least looked like a competent QB for the majority of the season.
Heisman voters got it wrong again, IMO. No question at all in my mind Williams should have gotten it. Did more on a worse team where he was the only legitimate offensive threat. Alas, the voters seem to just look at team record and BCS rank.
That's the thing, it's hard to distinguish it from a career award because it's only supposed to encompass a given season. As a whole body of work McCarron's career is one of the best ever but he was never once even close to being the "most outstanding player" in a given year IMO.

Don't know why you got down-voted for making a pretty solid observation, so I evened it out.
Yes, recruiting is a very shady business, and yes, I don't know why a top recruit would willingly choose to go to a school that is trending toward rock-bottom because the head coach has proven himself to be a step below awful. It's a total head-shaker to me.

Just my personal opinion, but A. J. McCarron should have won that award sometime during his career. He's the type of humble, high-character person any football program would love to have.

I think AJ is very good, but I don't think there was a single season where he was the most outstanding player on his team, let alone in the country. I was convinced after the UGA/Auburn game that Aaron Murray was the most outstanding player in the country, I still believe that, and he wasn't even invited to the ceremony.
