Actually, at that point in the year, El Paso is typically anywhere from 30-70 F. The weather here is highly variable... When Miami came through a couple years ago, it was a pretty chilly game, but the other two I've been in town for haven't been as cold.
And about the only thing to do in the area is take a trip out to Carlsbad Caverns. Which I would recommend, it's amazing.
That's a bigger number than I anticipated. They haven't faced a whole lot of defenses this year.....but we haven't seen many above average offenses either.
Good win for the players we have. Hope JJ can keep them in check and make the most of the games we should win. Maybe a few more upsets down the road.
Think of it as an arid Jacksonville.
A storied bowl as in historical, still not a great place for the family/ fan experiance.
VT apparently has opened up as a 10.5 point underdog. UCLA will be the best team VT has faced all year besides Alabama. UCLA's weakness is their OL so hopefully Gayle and Hopkins can cause a lot of disruption and boost their draft stock.
I'm wondering if Kyle Fuller will be back in time for this game.

El Paso is an interesting city. Been there may times. Right across the border is Jaurez, Mexico, full of drug trafficking, murders and lawlessness. But El Paso is remarkably safe and crime free. Still I would not call El Paso a hot-spot. It is in the mountain desert west. Highs usually in the upper 40s, lows in the mid 20s at night. An arid climate, low humidity. So expect it to be fairly cold at game time.
Bowl places like Orlando, Miami, Atlanta, and Pasadena have of course many other things to do. You can go there and make a mini-vacation out of it with the game as one venue. El Paso? Not in my view. Not a whole lot going on there. I suspect the turnout from both UCLA and VT will be not as good as bowls in the past.
As for us, we are staying home at watching it on TV.
I've seen UCLA a lot recently. Obviously, Hundley is a very good player. He's basically "Good Logan" every game. Barr is a tremendous LBer who changes the game. Jack was P12 offensive and defensive Freshman of the year. He plays LB and TB.
But their OL is awful. They also traditionally don't play well in cold weather, and the Sun has frequently been played in snow/sleet. We can win this game, but we should be 7-9 point underdogs.

Nice to see most of them showing a bit of respect for the Hokies and Beamer. Most of their fans don't want to take us too lightly so I can respect that. Of course there is always one clown who has to rag on the ACC but for the most part they seem pretty happy with the match up.
The Sun is a storied Bowl game. Read up about it, this game has traditionally been a very nice second tier bowl.
Jefferson will be a corner. Harrison will be a receiver. Write it down.
I like seeing some new teams in bowl games. Hopefully it goes better than the game against Cal. My guess is Foster is Bruin up some defensive schemes.

Generally, the BCS has done what it was designed to do....pit the #1 team vs. the #2 team. There have been some years that there was debate over who the two teams were (primarily the #2 slot), but it has succeeded in its task. It was far better than the system that preceded it, which was essentially chaos. For those of you too young to remember, there were two polls, and they were not always in agreement, no computers involved. There were occasionally split national champions crowned, and because ties were allowed until 1996, the potential for silliness was endless. The BCS was an improvement for sure, but personally, I think they need to (and eventually will) move to an 8 team playoff.

The better the perception of the conference, the more fair the playoff selection will be for our top teams, including VT.

Great for the ACC I would rarely say that I cheer for conference success; but given the run of dominance of the SEC in title games and the lack of marquee wins the ACC has had in recent bowl games, I will pull for FSU. If Auburn wins, the SEC-SEC-SEC chants will only grow louder going into the playoff system. But if FSU wins (and Clemson gets another SEC pelt in the Orange Bowl), then the argument can be made that the ACC is closing the gap. I think if the ACC lays an egg in the bowls and gets slapped around league-wide, it can only be harder to crack into the playoffs, especially in the early years.
That's the saddest pile of bow-tie wearin', brie cheese eatin', Zima drinkin', white flag wavin', deluision makin', piece of HOPE & CHANGE I've ever read! God, I pray that when Beamer retires we hire a proven winner with a big name so we don't have to go through this drippy crap!
We drink bourbon. UVA fans drink Zima. What do UCLA fans drink?
Flights are not that different around 50-100 dollars more to Nassau. But a much better family/fan place. Same with Nashville, San Fran and Charlotte. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I like going with family and friends to enjoy a multi day experiance in a city where the game is.

They pay the 3rd most of the ACC bowls, I would imagine.
A game in the Bahamas would actually be bad because it would be tough to sell a lot of tickets to that game on short notice. It's why the Hawaii Bowl is usually half empty unless Hawaii is there.
Thank goodness the AP Poll split from the BCS all those years ago. I actually think the AP Poll is the standard bearer, but when it comes to national championships, the AP and BCS only differed one year, when LSU beat OK and USC beat some fool.
