Cassell was about 50/50 WVU/VT fans outside the student section at tipoff. It filled in some as the game went on, but there was a lot of yellow and blue in the stands. Student section was as good as you can expect for 1PM on a weekday during classes.

If we're talking as a student, Clemson game 1987. First home game for Coach Beamer and myself, as it was also my freshman year. Clemson beat the snot out of us, but I had an awesome date for the game who later became the lovely and talented Mrs. Leonard.

Best overall? Florida State 2007 - My youngest two boys' first time at Lane, 3rd and 31, and Kam and Co. LAYING THE SMACK.

i listened to the last three and half minutes in my car driving, i'm lucky i didnt get in a fender bender.

first i was all

then i was all

With about 5 minutes left in the first half, VT sped up their effort on defense and started moving the ball efficiently on offense. My main observation coming out of USC Upstate was that we looked a half a step slow on defense, and didn't pressure the ball, fight through screens, or provide help to each other. VT simply play sluggish, uninspired basketball.

Our boys certainly aren't going to be the most skilled team on the court on most nights, so words like "Hustle" "Effort" and "Speed" will have to be pretty common when discussing our games. We were closer to that today than in game one, but if we have any more success, we're going to have to clean it up even more.

Not surprised in the least. Too much work when he wants to be golfing.

Originally Gabbard was supposed to retire when Weaver retired at the end of the contract. What I would expect is, that he now retires within the next year or two and the same can be said with a lot of the other higher ups in the department. So there will be a lot of turnover, which is why they are doing a national search for the new AD. They will probably have someone in place by the end of spring semester.

You guys are young and soft. Back in the day, the 70's you know, we were tougher. Sometimes we even got after VMI, Richmond, and William & Mary. Sometimes they got after us.

At least the girls were thinner then.

She will definitely fill the immediate void, but she is still battling cancer herself (I believe she is in remission) and is closing on her career at Tech. Within the next 3-5 years, the makeup of the entire Athletic Department is going to change.

I work in a neurology lab that conducts Parkinson's research, and I can tell you that not too many people make it nine years at their job after being diagnosed. It's a dastardly disease that takes a toll quickly on those who are afflicted by it.

Jim Weaver has had a hell of a career at VT and I wish him all the best as he fights Parkinson's.

Yeah, that was the sunset game.

99 was also my freshman year - toss up between the Miami and Cuse games because they were both just complete ass whoopings!

Consolation prize to the Thursday night game against Clemson. That game was close until Corey Moore completely took over late and the D scored twice (I think?) in the 4th quarter. It was my first night game in Lane, and subsequently, my first (of very many) skipped classes happened the following Friday morning. Good times!

not sure about that, we had some awesome teams who won a bunch of grinders.

Having Barksdale back will definitely help. He was working on an outside game this summer, so he could potentially go from ok 4 to being a stretch 4. Ben and Devin definitely impressed today and I think will have some games like this and then games when they are quite. Trevor looks lost in practice, but played well today so hopefully he continues to develop. The biggest question mark to me is Wood. He has the maturity of a 12 year old. He doesn't hustle in practice and will float through games sometimes. Then there are other times, he plays like a man possessed and hits threes and grabs all the boards. He is going to have to grow up and become someone JJ can trust, otherwise once Barksdale is back, he could find his minutes severely diminished.

Most impressive stats were the blocks and free throw percentage. 30-38 from the charity stripe is nice and knowing we can hit those makes a difference since this year we will hit the line more with the new rules.

Well since Iv've only been able to be at 5 games as a student (new guy right here ;) ) I guess that gives me limited choicesI can pick when Facyson burst onto the scene, when we beat pitt because of DadiBut I'm going with the rain soaked Marshall game of 2013. Most fun I've had at a game as a student but then again I don't have many choices right now but then again Il be here for the games vs tOSU and the Battle of Bristol :)

I think Leal should get his chance to shine finally. He's deserving.

Considering that it was a 1pm tip off and the crowd was about 1/4 or more WVU fans, that was a strong comeback. This time is going to have to rely on game to game experience to win close ones like this. Western Carolina and VMI next so hopefully they can pick up two before they take on Michigan State.

Also, Women's picked up a decent win last night in Norfolk, beating ODU. They take on Florida on thursday. Should be a good game and this team is going to be fun to watch all year.

2009 Miami beatdown in the rain.
2009 Nebraska Miracle. Right after Coale's catch the student section went insane. I ended up on the ground under a 10 person dog pile a couple rows down from my seats.

Cadavaliers. Well done pajokie.

Where do I begin...

not all of these as a student obviously, my single favorite would have to be 2003 Miami but...
- 2002 LSU & going downtown afterwards
- 2003 Miami, the craziest I've ever seen Lane
- 2004 Miami, winning our first ACC title when everyone picked Miami
- 2005 blocked FG for a TD against GT
- 2005 ACCCG - sucks we lost but it was cool to be a part of the first one ever
- 2005 & 2011 - dominating LOLUVA in cville
- 2006 Clemson - Lane was nuts that night
- 2007 opener against ECU, first game after April 16...Lane just had a different feel that day
- 2007 - finally beating FSU and paying back BC and Matty Ice
- 2009 Nebraska - the moment Danny Coale pulled that catch in and Lane erupted
- 2010 ACCCG win over FSU
- 2011 Miami, end of the game was nuts
- 2013 Miami - wasn't there in person for this one but it just felt great

Pretty sure that's correct. Man, that would be a fun name to scream out sporadically from the student section. For those Hokies who are still students...
