i'll just leave it at, this yr is likely to be a bottom 5 of all time ACC team. gonna take a few good (VT standard not upper echelon ACC) recruiting classes to even get them back to middle of the pack.

Defensively, they will be a shit show again. Can't count on freshman to play defense at all.

No offense, but Drescher was the first person that would come to mind for anyone who knew wrestling in the area. He had monumental success at Grundy and Christiansburg high school, winning state titles every year and producing some of the best wrestlers in the country (including the #1 overall wrestler one year). His choice of coach was somewhat a no brainer, though it has panned out perhaps even better than expected so far. That all being said, from what I've heard Weaver deserves credit for keeping the wrestling program alive after the Brands fiasco.

not accurate.

  • dfs was leaving no matter what.
  • harrell was fighting very hard to get out as well, his stock had grown too big for vt.
  • eg was practicing off campus ... away from seth and was considering leaving as well.

George Tech - they know how to play against Clemson and will control the ball

Aubie - Georgie didn't look that sharp against a turribal App St team and didn't impress against a melting down UF either. Maybe they are starting to get healthy, but I think recent results are misleading.

Sparty - This is a toss up because MSU has played some questionable games this year (see Western Mich, South Florida, Notre Dame, Purdue). I don't think Nebraska is any good either though... holy cow the Little 10 sucks out loud.

Sebastian - If the U still had Duke Johnson I think he'd shred the Duke D for an easy W. I think we're in for more of an offensive shootout and the U will make one more play to win it.

Okies - Texas isn't actually good, as they're on a 6 game winning streak over teams with a combined 23-33 record, including the bottom 5 teams of the Big 12. I don't have much faith in a mediocre Cowboys team either, but consider me unconvinced.

Stan - tough call because USC has played very stout defense and their best RB has finally found the field in Buck Allen

Either way, you're correct.

Early entry for the 2014 Class should be Marshawn Williams, Andrew Ford, Jaylen Bradshaw, and Vinnie Mihota.

The 2013 preppers - Fisher, Jefferson, and Reid should arrive in January 2014.

Braxton Pfaff will also enroll in January 2014. He's a delayed entry from the 2013 Class - rehabbed a shoulder injury.

But, as I've learned over the years, all of the above is subject to change depending on the prep guys doing well, and the 2014 guys meeting all of the reqs for early graduation.

2006 (freshman year) - Clemson. My first Thursday night game in Blacksburg.
2007 (sophomore year) - ACCCG. Wasn't there, but beating BC was sweet, sweet revenge. I still hate Matt Ryan.
2008 (junior year) - UVA. My first UVA game. I worked at 3 am on Black Friday then drove 6 hours to Blacksburg. And then froze to death at the game. But it was glorious.
2009 (senior year) - tie between Nebraska (first game with my now-husband, rushing the field) and Miami (just beating those bitches down in a semi-monsoon).

Thoroughbreds aren't about hatred for UVA or pressuring people to do one thing or another. They're about aspirations for Virginians.

When VT gets the 4 and 5 star Virginia offensive talent, because they have an attractive offense to play in... we'll have won the battle. At that point we'll get the 5 star defensive talent as well.

Friends not letting friends do this or that just exacerbates the situation.

300 yard passing, 100+ rushing games is a big step. WRs as well as RBs can get attracted to that.

Really hope we don't go back to the run only / first philosophy. Everybody can stop a run first offense not run by Oregon, Alabama, and maybe BC (I kid). Part of what Bud taught us over the years. We need balance in the approach, a customized approach to opponent that plays on our strengths their weaknesses. A "don't turn the ball over" offense, doesn't cut it. Might as well cede the 7v7 talent because they want to play in a dynamic fun offense and have a shot at winning it all.

Don't want to get my hopes up, but I'd really like to see a healthy VT play FSU in the ACC Championship game. If we could put up 30 points and make it a competitive game, I think it would say alot about our offensive future and potential title aspirations. I think we've got the serious coaches and we've got a program that can ascend further this time. We are thin unfortunately, so its hard to see how the next few games play out.... think we could really make a statement if the chips fall our way.

If you don't have title aspirations... getting hopes up for 5 stars is a fool's game... we'll whiff on far far far more than we'll pickup.

JMHO

Tapp's been in the League for 8 years - that beats the average NFL career by about 2 years.

given what you've just said, what do you make of Loeffler to date (I know that you have a small sample size and if you can't give an answer I completely understand...I know that I'm personally giving him 3 years to work with before passing serious judgement, but I'm curious what you think)........(whew, that was a long parenthetical statement)

He has the scheme, I think...based on what I've read here, his passing scheme is way more effective than anything from the previous regime (he says he wants to run it..we haven't seen much of that yet)

I don't know much about football, or what a QB is supposed to look like, but I think it's fair to say that LT3 has improved under the tutelage of Loeffler

Do you think he'll be able to coach the way Foster does on his side of the ball?

Every VT sports fan owes Jim Weaver their gratitude. He oversaw an exponential expansion of the VT athletic department, including over $100 million in new facilities, while always turning a profit.
