The way the receivers blocked was a thing of beauty.
Speaking of Maryland, here's the first paragraph of a nice article (read: brutal condemnation) of Randy Edsall from the Washington Post's John Feinstein:
Lets give Randy Edsall credit for one thing: Hes consistent. When Maryland wins, were told its because he and his coaches have worked so hard to rebuild the program since he arrived (in the wake of Ralph Friedgens 75-50 record that included seven bowl trips). When Maryland loses, especially in embarrassing fashion as it did Saturday, 20-3 at home against a decidedly mediocre Syracuse team its on the players.
(Hey Joe, there should be a link right here ^ but it doesn't look like it is appearing)
So is the sad face supposed to represent how Logan detractors feel after he played great and we won? So if you were outspoken about Logan's bad play then you're happy when he plays bad to validate your key play posts and you're sad when he plays great leading to a win?
Let me say as an outspoken Logan detractor, whenever he plays well and we win, I am very very very very very very happy. I have never wished for him to play badly. I just called it how I saw it and I didn't hold back. I apologized to a keyplayer last week for upsetting him and I'm apologizing to everybody else right now that I may have pissed off. I still have my reservations about Logan but I shouldn't have came here right after a loss and yelled my distaste for him at the top of my lungs. My bad about that, but to suggest some Hokie fans are somehow upset when we win is ridiculous. If you want Logan to play bad just to prove yourself right, then you're not a real fan and I hope we don't have any "fans" like that on this site.
I'm not, for pretty much one reason: FSU
I want to see FSU in the MNC vs Alabama. These, to me, look like the two best teams in the country. But if Clemson loses to GT (maybe) and then USCe (likely), then FSU's best win is against...Miami? Duke/VT in the ACCCG? Not Florida, that's for sure. What happens to OSU's SOS when they play a 1-loss MSU in the Big Ten CG? The computers might like OSU more than FSU, and with enough voters, then we might see OSU sneak by FSU. No thanks.
However, your point about GT/Duke is solid. But this year, I'd kinda like to let Duke have their day. Against FSU. In the ACCCG. I don't think we'd win that game anyway (pessimistic, I know, but also realistic).
In other words, I hope Clemson wins out, we win out, and then let the chips fall wherever they may otherwise.
#1 seed!
I think this one is my favorite.
Long time lurker, first time poster. Thanks French for the continued excellent analysis. It is only through the lens of your analysis that I can appreciate the value in hiring Loefflera and the new staff. You also talked me off the ledge as I watched the dumpster fire that was the 2012 season.
The simple fact that VT has an offensive system with some logic (and the death of the d**n bubble screen) is progress. It is also impressive that the new staff has taken several linemen that we wrote off a year ago mixed in new linemen and turned them into a dependable unit. I can't wait to see this system improve and evolve over the next several years as new players cycle in and the become experienced in the system. I think that will only lead to more recruits wanting to play in the system, which in turn will further improve the offense.
It is hard to explain what happened with BC & Duke. I chalk it up to Loeffler experimenting and just not having a perfect day at work. If I had to be perfect on the job every day I'd be shown the door by 9 am. But I'm awesome at drinking coffee, checking email and catching up on TKP, so I'd definitely make it an hour even on my worst day.
I just remembered that he shares a locker room with Leonard Hankerson and Brandon Meriweather. And an LB, too, I think?
But also Deangelo Hall and Will Montgomery.
Thanks, French. Well done as always.
During the entire game I said to myself over and over, I can't wait to see what TKP has to say about this Offensive dominance.
It's been an exciting week. Lets take it to the Terps!!
Indeed! Well in, dubdub, on your first post, especially with levelheadedness in the face of a discussion that mutated its own tail and has runnoft.
Duke... they've gotten in their only win in against Beamer. Let's keep it that way.
She took it very well.
And she knows better than me how good UVA women's soccer. She played them 4 times in college, so I didn't count her opinion out. I just know that all Hokies have a fighting spirit, especially when they play UVA!!
Welcome DubDub! Turkey Leg to you for first post
Thanks!!
Edit: Just purchased one! :D Can't wait to receive it. Hopefully it's here before Friday so I can wear it for #BEATMD
Indeed. I love what Moorehead has done, and he was considered a pretty risky hire because he doesn't have much experience. What Grimes has done with the patchwork line has been pretty impressive, too. They've performed very well this season, as French has noted, and certainly better than I expected.
SO GOOD!!! No lets hope Miami bounces back and we finish out like this for the next two games. I just want us back in the ACCCG again. If we were to get there and play like Saturday we have a chance.
Big Ups to LOU! he gave MAD PROPS to VT this weekend. LOU RULES!
I didn't even catch that. Dyslexia, it'll get after ya.
I like the way it's set up. I think I'm going to really like Moorehead as a coach too. The receivers are playing lightyears better than they were at the beginning of the season. I think he's really turned that group around!
Hey everyone, it's my first post on TKP.
Not sure if this is a novel idea to the site, but I've always been of the mindset that Leal could lead us to an equal or better record IF, and only IF, LT had a full off-season of working at tight end. Crazy thought, I know, and obviously that ship has sailed since LT doesn't have another off-season at VT, but hear me out:
1. LT's size and athleticism had him rated as the top TE prospect in high school and some NFL scouts still see him as such. He could have been to be a major receiving threat and safety blanket for Leal. He would create obvious mismatches and be a major consideration in game-planning/personnel for opposing DC's
2. It's clear LT is as tough as they come, so I have no doubt he could get it done in the trenches and be a huge piece in run blocking schemes. He would have no doubt made our running game better with strength at the point of attack on the LOS and his athleticism to get to the next level.
3. He would still be a present leader in the huddle, and you wouldn't have to take him off of the field because of his versatility.
4. Leal has enough athleticism (although probably not the durability) to run the veer and option reads, as well as compensate for poor pass protection. And, he CAN'T be worse than LT at going through a progression or decision making.
All that said, I think it's right to stick with LT at this point, regardless of the fact he gives us the chance to lose (and win) EVERY game. It's just hard for me to believe that Leal would be inconsistent enough lose to Duke and BC with 8 turnovers then turn in a player of the week performance against Miami.

On LT's size-18 foot, I believe.
I would say that would determinant.

maybe not #7 either way. No sanctions = No Urban
