We just lost to duke and bc, it doesn't make me feel better because it doesn't fix our problems. It wil be tough to even beat uva

He can't possibly be worse than this.

I'm not saying that Leal is Tyrod, but I'm saying that "upside" at this point could be considered a QB who doesn't turn the ball over 4 times a game.

I don't know how you reach this conclusion? What makes you think Leal won't turn it over as much/more than Logan?

Pure speculation, but based on Stanford's comments I get the impression that Leal doesn't have a grasp on the offense. Again, speculating, but I think our QB position is in a bad spot right now. Logan is inconsistent at best, I fear that Leal is far worse. Bucky is raw.

Additionally, Leal needs game experience if he's to be the starter next year.

This is FAR from guaranteed. Ford is lighting up the stat sheet this year, he's Lefty's guy, and he's enrolling early. Bucky is raw, but extremely athletic. Leal has just as much time in Lefty's system as Bucky, is more a more refined player, but doesn't have the same athletic gifts as Bucky.

Not to mention he's not built to run this veer/read option system where the running back is bigger than he is. Put the QB under center, let it be Leal, hand off to the best player on our team 30 times a game (Trey), and give us an actual shot to win on offense.

So you want us to redesign our offense around a player who may or may not be our starter next year AND give up on a 6-3 season?

I can't imagine that the coaches would leave Leal on the bench if he was really a better option. They are professionals who spend far more time with the team than we do. They have bonuses attached to their results; I don't think they're going to stick to Logan if he's not the team's best option. Not to mention Leal (to our knowledge) hasn't exactly been begging to play.

Finally, I don't think we should give up on a 6-3 season to gain experience for next season. We still have a shot at winning the ACC Coastal.

Crap is right. Hopefully they end up like GT, having high hopes before the game and looking to beat us for the first time in a while and then our defense goes out there and crushes that hope.

This game wasn't all on Logan Thomas like a lot of fans want to say it was. The play-calling was an absolute joke. I defended Loeffler last week, but this week I'm gonna tear him apart.

#1: I don't care if we scored off it, when you're on the 6 inch line you DO NOT line up in the shotgun. That's giving the defense 5 yards they don't deserve to have.

#2: If your offensive line can't block anyone why do you keep running 5 step drops? Do we even have a quick slant in our playbook?

#3: The fullback is an actual position, at some point our coaches should attempt to utilize one and run the damn ball out of an I formation. No more of this stupid shotgun or pistol crap on every play. Run the damn ball! Even if it doesn't go anywhere it keeps the defensive linemen from pinning their ears back.

#4: I've been saying this for 3 years and I'll say it again, Logan Thomas is not a good runner. He has all the physical tools to be a more athletic Ben Roethlisberger, but he has absolutely no moves. Everyone saw big black guy and thought he must be just like Cam Newton. He's not, he's a guy who can throw the ball and has absolutely no agility (he is straight line fast but that's not enough to be a good runner).

This actually does make me feel better. At the end of the day, a bad season for us is what UVA strives for. I take solace in that fact

I'm still not sold on the idea that FSU won't make it to the MNC if Oregon wins out.

Agreed, but this season I think Duke Johnson getting hurt is bad for college football. He's the player I want to see every week.

Yeah. Marcus Davis wouldn't even block his QB from criticism.

Boom.

Stanford is rapidly running straight up the ladder of my favorite players.

No way, a guest of mine who came up for the PSU/Illinois game had the same comment....his niece learned to ride without training wheels yesterday.

Duke winning the Coastal would make me a little happy. I don't think we deserve it this year, I don't want Miami to win it after losing so thoroughly yesterday, I don't like GT or UNC at all, or Pitt, for that matter, so Duke is the only remaining team, and a program I respect. They're chock full of seniors this year, so let them win one a la Wake Forest, FSU will win the ACCCG, and then meet Alabama in the MNC.

He'd run less if he were better at the zone read and would hand it off to the back when appropriate.

Duke Johnson is the best RB in college this year. I would have loved to have been able to see our D vs him. The play where he got injured looked like FSU went after him a little. He was talking a pretty big game.

Dallas Crawford is legit, though, and better than any RB we have. Don't sleep on him. I'm going to love to see our secondary against Morris, though, and our defensive line against their offensive line. Will be an entertaining game.

In the prose of Andrew Beyer I can only offer the following after yesterday. When Historians are chronicling examples of the folly and perversity of mankind during the 21st century, they will start with this list:

1. Dick Cheney's Vice Presidency
2. Logan Thomas playing QB for Virginia Tech

I'll agree with the points that have been made many-a-time about Leal/Logan: Logan is best prepared and, until more evidence is seen, gives us the best chance to win. But here's the kicker, in my mind:

Logan appears to want to make plays all the time. He seems to want to carry the team on his back all the time. The pick 6 yesterday wasn't a good decision, but I think it comes from the perspective of wanting to make a play to save the team. We put it on Logan to do everything, so, even in bad situations, he always tries to do SOMETHING.

Now, I think if Leal were playing, he'd feel less pressure to be the guy all the time. We likely wouldn't ask him to save the game for us all the time. I'm guessing he'd be more likely to put his teammates in positions to make plays, maybe even view himself as more of a game-caretaker than a playmaker. I could see Leal throwing that pick six ball out of bounds, allowing himself to be tackled (as opposed to trying to fight for more yardage, taking hits, and possibly fumbling). Maybe he'd be more of a hey-a-punt-isn't-always-a-bad-thing type of player.

I guess my point is that, maybe, we need Logan to do LESS, not more, and that I think Leal would be able to do this. Hell, if Leal was in the game at QB, he might have TWO awesome TEs.

it is easier to miss the game by wrecking a car. that's what i did for Duke. Flu seems a bit over the top
