I've personally always thought that there are 3 sort of spheres of talent in college coaches. Recruiting, motivating, and actual coaching (improving/preparing players, scheming, clock management, that sort of thing).
A bad coach might do one of these things really well at the expense of the others - Mike London comes to mind (good recruiter, but pretty crappy at actual coaching).
A decent coach is probably really good at one or two of these things, or just average across the board.
A great coach (say, Saban) will beat you in all three areas.

Good staffs will make up for the gaps in their own coaches' abilities. (Dabo Swiney is a great recruiter and motivator, but an absolute boob of a gameday coach. Fortunately for him, he's surrounded himself with talented gameday assistants who he delegates responsibility to).

It's clear Bud is one of the (if not THE) best DC in the country at both motivating and coaching. He's just incredible. I also can't really knock Beamer in any area - great coach. And I think it's really fair to say the jury is still out on Loeffler - way too soon to judge. He's going to need a couple of years before any decent assessment can be made.

I get the same looks, yelling similar things while in the stands.
I'll be tailgating in my driveway this Saturday with a TV and I expect the neighbors to call the white suit guys and then asking later, "Who the heck is Sam Rogers?"

Last game I actually screamed at the screen at the bar "This isn't So You Think You Can Dance! Run forward and stop dancing!" much to the puzzled looks of my girlfriend and half the other people in the place.

i fell two different times jumping up and down at the marshall game. cmon, it was wet.

i have a friend who is hyperbole guy. true story; in the first quarter of 09 bama they were up 6-0. he said before a third down, "if we punt here its over!" everyone else was all 'dude its the first quarter.' he looks as us as serious as a heart attack, "over."

I think our challenge this week, as a fanbase, is to see if we can #SHUTOUTBC with a 100-0 victory in the C1B matchup.
I know that means they would have to get <.5%, but I think we have the ability to do that!

I think what you're on to is a good start. I think it's fair to say Beamer is a great coach and more than fair to say Foster is a great coach. But they also have a lot of time in and a ton of games on the books. Loeffler is still fairly new. If we give every coach 3 or 4 years to prove their worth I think we'll get a better read on them. Loeffler could potentially fall into any of those 3 categories over the next 3 years. I sincerely hope he doesn't fall into that first category. I'm interested to see what this team looks like in 3 years. I'm hoping that it's dominant.

I'm not sure what you're looking for here... 3-4 plays (often times less) typically separate teams in a one score game. No one thinks that Logan is the world's most consistent QB, and no one ever called him a top college QB (ignoring the heisman hype preseason last year, which, given how we've had surprise heisman winners the last 3-4 years, wasn't a ridiculous hype, but I digress).

This is a REBUILDING YEAR. Almost all of us agreed preseason that we would be happy with 8 regular season wins and an offense with a direction/identity. We have the latter, the former will not come easy, but is very obtainable. It sucks that (arguably) our best defensive in the past decade has to play with an ineffective offensive, but we are setting the groundwork for a team that's tough, physical and smart, on both sides of the ball.

Loefler isn't on the field making bad reads, missing blocks, throwing picks, making penalties, and missing field goals. No OC is perfect in play calling every play. If CJ makes those FGs and DJC doesn't have the motion penalty we probably would not be having this discussion. O was definitely rusty after the bye week and running yards were better, but they could have had more run plays.

I hope we beat bc Saturday the way we're beating them in the mascot challenge. 97-3 currently

To further your thought...I'm not sure that he's (or any college player is) being held captive between games either. Yes, there are practices, expectations, classes, meetings. But there are a ton of positives about being part of a team (and winning such that he did at Oregon) and receiving some of the perks that he did. I'm not sure I would draw a parallel between that and being held captive between games like he eludes to.

I hate all New England teams. Especially Boston College.

We can expect them to play tough defense. But I expect us to play them tougher, and that will be the difference.

I think there is a very real chance that LT isn't given a read in the read option. It may be signaled in to give on the jet sweep or run by LT. If so, that would further implicate LT's weakness on the read if his coaches are taking it out of his hands.

I'll never forget filing out of Lane that night, and turning back to look at the field once more and seeing Coach Jag-o-whatever dancing on OUR 50 yd line.

That did it for me. I HATE BC. They're evil, and they must be destroyed.

Oh good...I'm not the only crazy one. Seems like I'm yelling run forward...FOR-WARD...damn-it!...everytime he catches a punt. Everyone around me gives me weird looks. Was beginning to think I was on the bus and could find the crazy person (you know what means, right?).

I couldn't agree more with you regarding Jarrett. His lack of go forward leaves me cursing at the television while reaching for the bottle of bourbon. Fortunately I decide to pour more often than throw said bottle.

The whole east-west thing has been bothering me all season. More often than not they just run sideline to sideline and gain 1 yard when if they just ran forward they would get at least 5 before anyone touches them. It makes me wonder if they're just trying too hard to make a huge play or the coaches aren't emphasizing getting yardage or they're just stubborn.

"My prediction: in at least two of the next four games, we will hear "if only Logan could have 3 or 4 plays back."

Ok, got you down. You have us losing at least 2 of our last four games. Nice.

Well allow me to retort.

We will win this week against BC, and there is a very real possibility we will beat Miami. If that happens, we will run the table. Sam Rogers will score a touchdown in there somewhere. Oh and, by the way, Sam Rogers forecasts that it will be partly cloudy in Chestnut Hill will a 100% chance of pain.

To this day I still can't stand Matty Ice. But that's ok we still got him back in the ACCCG. #BeatBC
