I disagree with his "Spartacus" statement.
I firmly believe because of the god-given superior athletic ability of most college and NFL players, fans view player as more than human, almost as modern-day Achilles and Hector. Because of that, there's an expectation of superhuman standards, expectations that we would never place on a normal individual. The idea that he sees himself as a "slave" is ridiculous because I'm willing to bet that the majority of us are willing to trade lives with Tom Brady, Ray Lewis, JJ Watt or Adrian Peterson in a heartbeat. Nobody here wants to be Kunta Kinte.
Because we lionize these players and don't know them personally, some fans take solace in disparaging these players when they're imperfect in a vein attempt to counteract their own insecurities. That's why as a fanbase we connect with players like Sam Rogers because he is the personification of the level of drive and commitment we would envision ourselves having if we were blessed with adequate ability.
Oooooo...participation trophies, well played. As someone who has not posted long, I was thinking they were given for posts, however, I feel like I bounce up 1 with each post, so I've always figured the higher leg count was indicative of more active members.
Totally makes sense. I would do the exact same thing given the situation.
Being an offense only team is easier in football. You just have to score more and if you can score at will it's significantly easier to win than if you can stop scoring. It just comes down to that you can always score 3 or 7 points with a good offense for the lead, but a good defense can't take 3 or 7 off the board for the lead.
I was happier when Logan Thomas had no or very limited carries in some of our earlier games. The beating can't be good for him over the course of the season. I am glad to see that French's analysis agreed with my gut that the running game did appear to be working but for some reason we shied away from actually giving the ball to the backs as the game went on.
On one thread a few months ago, the comments simply went to a single-character column, even on subsequent replies. Nothing freaky or comical, just really annoying to read if it's actually meaningful. We only did it to see what would happen :)
LT as a patriot? The conflicting feelings...
Ok, here goes....
Everyone complains about downvotes. But everyone complains about "participation trophies". Aren't turkey legs just another form of that? I mean it's nice to know that you threw a good comment out there, but some comments I see that have 3 or 5 upvotes I just don't get. It seems that turkey legs have become an assumed "reward" simply for a post. Let's remember that we are talking/debating/discussing/analyzing FOOTBALL and everything about it. Yes, some teams have helmet stickers, but even they aren't handed out with the frequency that turkey legs are given.
There's not a mechanism in place to track the top upvoted post, so why does it really matter? Some comments get turkey legs. Some get down voted. Some are accidentally downvoted, and receive 3 to offset that. I say the system is fine the way it is...its a nice little side thing that goes on here, and there's no reason to turn it into something bigger than what it simply is. (Unless a turkey leg was given for a post instead of being a "like" system. Then you would be able to tell how is very active on the site by the number of posts here.)
Fascinating. Does it at any point just freak out? I remember posting on tigsource and the comments started turning themselves inside out. It was just utter madness.
As much as I dislike the Steelers, I would love to see Logan go there, learn under Big Ben for a few seasons, play some games in case of injury to show off (you know it will happen) then go to another team to start
I won't try to completely psychoanalyze the downvoters here, but I suspect it was because of the last sentence. It's one thing to disagree with the OP, it's another to make a condescending remark that seeks to belittle the original opinion. The OP is entitled to have his opinion respected, as well.
Cody reminds me a lot of Warley, actually. He lived across from me when I was in Blacksburg and I would see that kid throw on his high school helmet and tell people to kick him in the head or run into walls like the Juggernaut at parties & then miss games with back problems.
SL gets at least 2 more years in my book. There is a lot to like about him. Just curious who French thinks the best in the biz is.
I can imagine the "fans" out there have become spoiled so to speak. They expect a butt-kicking every game, and they get their wish. Now, they are wishing for a perfect game. And, given the years of success, a big win has become just fact, deeming the game as a sideshow. After hours of tailgating, they won't be satisfied unless there is utter perfection or sheer destruction. Wonder why Bama fans don't show up for games? The conclusion is known. Same out in Oregon.
This does NOT excuse their behavior, but I'm also sure he has a sensitive trigger in some of this. Imagine having to bite your tongue for so long, then being released and being able to actually hear what is being thrown out there. His "filter" was probably reduced, and he let them have it.
Gayle is miles better than Worilds is
Speaking of votes, why is it that us so called fans who share the same passion and love for a team a town and the best damn fans in the nation, bash the hell out of each other for having a differing opinion? Some people are glass half full and others are half empty. Some people believe every odd gets a trophy and some believe that you get the trophy for actually playing and accomplishing something. Perfect example is the first comment. He is getting down voted just because he sees the loss differently than most on here. Ill never understand it. We are all a Hokie Nation and I thinks it's time we started acting like it. Hokies Respect.
A tremendous amount of responsibility has been placed on Logan Thomas...if Logan makes the correct decision on only 3 or 4 more plays, the Hokies win against the Blue Devils.
Whenever I've talked to Hokie detractors this year, I've said it's going to be extremely difficult to beat that defense if we can protect the ball. The first 3 ACC games saw zero turnovers and I felt like we were in complete control. Logan had a terrible day. I'm not calling for his head, Tyrod had a similar game against the same program and we had to be saved by Glennon. I think a lot of shock & anger has been thrown around since Saturday calling for heads or jobs, but while out 1 turnover & we probably win that game, keep it turnover free & we dominate. Logan was off, he'll be back on.
I can see where he's coming from and some criticism may be deserved here, but I think he's extrapolating too far. One data point does not make a trend. In my own experience in Lane, the people around me varied from week to week. One game, there would be complete idiots like these that make the game unbearable. The next week, I would have the time of my life with complete strangers who are awesome fans. If he goes to multiple games in multiple places in the stadium (i.e. student section, general public, alumni, etc) and observes the same behavior, yes, he may be on to something. But one experience with some jerks should not earn the level of condemnation he is dishing out.
Speaking of Moorehead and Knowles, did anyone else notice Moorehead ripping into Knowles sometime in the late first quarter or second quarter? It was as Knowles was going to the sideline on the south side of the field. Moorehead started well on the field and followed Knowles all to the sideline and beyond, screaming the entire time. From the intensity of it I didn't think Knowles would get back in the game, especially since he seemed to brush him off. I'd love to know what you'd have to do to get that kind of reaction but if it was a route breakdown or something I suppose we'll never know.
On the one hand I feel bad...but on the flip side it's probably a good thing this dude isn't in the nfl. Especially in a town like Foxborough, Meadowlands or Dallas. Plus, those athletes get a TON of perks and the opportunity to make millions. In addition, there are fans that have defended those same athletes that have done blow, or knock up underage girls and get them abortions, etc.
Hard to argue w these facts. Wish I could give you more turkey legs since you got hammered for having a an opinion.
To judge an entire fan base off of the actions of a few drunk assholes is kind of ridiculous to me. Every fan base in every sport has bad fans, doesn't mean the entire fan base deserves an article that ends "I will always love the ducks: my coaches, my teammates, my brothers and family. The rest... Go fuck yourselves."
He brings up some good points, but I can't help but think his message would have been more powerful if every other word wasn't (expletive).
and seeing posts on here I know we have our own fair share of them

It is, more or less. Every time you post or start a forum topic, you get a turkey leg. The extra up-votes and such indicate members whose posts are particularly insightful, funny, thoughtful, etc, so the total count indicates not only total activity, but in most cases, quality.
