That is CLEARLY a touchback. How did they miss that live?

As the saying goes, "there are lies, damned lies, and then there are statistics." We all know who the best D is :)

Maybe Bud and Beamer believed those players ranked as a 3* by the recruiting services were actually very high on Tech's board.

If we are to believe Rivals, for instance, our 2-deep defense should be pretty mediocre - but they're not, are they?

DE - 3* - James Gayle / 2* - Tyrel Wilson
DT - 3* - Derrick Hopkins / 3* - Woody Baron
DT - 2* - Luther Maddy / 3* - Nigel Williams

LB - NR - Jack Tyler (walkon) / 3* - Chase Williams
LB - 3* - Tariq Edwards / 4* - Deon Clarke
OLB - NR - Josh Trimble / NR - Derek Dinardo
Nickel - 5* - Kendall Fuller
Rover - 4* - Kyshoen Jarrett
CB - 3* - Antone Exum / 5* - CB - Kendall Fuller / 3* - Brandon Facyson

CB - 3* - Kyle Fuller / 3* - Donovan Riley

When he was coaching at USC-East, I think Shane knew about McLaughlin.

When he was originally being recruited out of high school, McLaughlin had offers from ECU, Marshall, FIU, and Wake. Additionally, Clemson, GT, USC-E, UNC, and VT were also interested in him but did not make an offer.

Really wish they could've come away with at least 3 on that drive. As I've said hundreds of times on these boards, I'm a UCF student (Hokie at heart) and I really want them to pull the upset...

And as I type this, 3 and out...

WAIT WHAT? "Statistically the best defense in the nation"? LOUISVILLE???

The way they moved the ball on the first drive, if Louisville doesn't tighten things up on D, this could end up being a shootout.

That was one hell of a pick by the Louisville defender... And a great drive. Come on Knights, tie it up. Make this thing interesting

Nicely explained your point of view. You sir are a scholar and a gentleman.

It could actually be a touch of genius. For all his bad coaching, Mike London has brought in some really talented athletes to UVA. Now he is on the verge of bringing in what could be a star studded haul. So if you are the AD, the last thing you want to do now is to scare those recruits away with a middle of the season firing. Instead, you promise that coach will be back next year. February rolls in, LOIs are signed (at which point these recruits become bonded to the school), then you give the coach a behind-the-scenes ultimatum to get it done or get out. If he does not, you bring in a guy who can actually coach. Now that person would have the great talent pool that London brought in. Should be able to generate some success with that. And reality in College football these days is that success breeds success. So for all we know, their AD may be playing a good game here. Ruthless politics.

But then it is UVA (or LOLUVA as horse said), so they might bring in another London too. Should be interesting either way. Just a hypothesis.

Hope VT can continue to hang on to great QBs, So we can continue to hang on to an excellent coach. You can not understand the honor it is to have you as our coach.

From what I can tell, he has a blindingly fast first step and stays low. Once he gets his inside arm around the OT, he's gone, game over.

I remember Coach Cav saying that about Demetrious Nicholson a couple of years ago at a recruiting night.

So, in other words, you have time

LOUISVILLE, because they're joining the ACC next year, and the ACC is back y'all
FLORIDA, because they hung tough with Miami, who is now a top 10 team (and are definitely most assuredly back)
UCLA, because I don't think Stanford is going to rebound well from last week's loss to Utah
AUBURN, because they're the Tigers and you know who else is the Tigers? #3 Clemson.
WASHINGTON. The Huskies have only lost to top 15 teams, and played them both pretty close.
FLORIDA STATE. They have something to prove. Mostly just that they're back.

Quite an impressive lineup of German styles. So when can I come over? I've always wanted to brew a Berliner Weisse, but I don't have any temperature control.

Happy Birthday, Beams. 67 interceptions this year!

Note: Parker Osterloh is number 67
