A lot of conversation on this subject is based on speculation. We don't know the specifics, not sure we ever will. But I hope Beamer is considering whether or not to at least demote Journell, if not kick him off the team, for no other reason than being a repeat offender. This kind of thing can be a cancer in the locker room, and sometimes its better to excise the problem. I hope this kid gets his head screwed on straight rather quickly. Perhaps we need to move him to Defensive line for a week. I'm sure that the OL could use a little work.
Kyle Fuller may be moving back to Whip for this game, per Andy Bitter. Can't say I saw that coming.
I was yelling "RUN! RUN! RUN! FAT GUY RUN!" in the basement. Apparently my wife thought something happened to one of the kids and came running down to see. Whoops! She was less than impressed when I said we almost scored a fat guy td.
Ronald Vincent Burns! FTW! Had class with him, he was a pretty funny dude.
I think Beamer is setting things up to retire at the end of his current contract in 2016. Maybe that's just me. The moves he's made on staff, and a little behind the scenes suggest he's been getting the program ready to be competitive even when he's gone. 2016 will be his 30th season as HC of VT, and when he signed the contract to extend it to 2016, he said something along the lines of 30 being a pretty nice number.
Of course, I say, if he retires as HC, he needs to become the new AD and get rid of Weaver.
and of all teams to be playing on a short week. . .
True, but I meant to touch on the Jarrett and Edmunds health issues moreso than the preparation. But I'll stand by my point that Collins, Hopkins, Maddy, and Gayle are going to have to control the line of scrimmage like they've been doing & hopefully they're rested up enough.
Paul Johnson has a propensity for attempting to exploit young players, so I'm hoping Facyson and Fuller are up to the challenge like they seem to have been all season.
I agree. If they allow him to stay on it pretty much lets the rest of the team know they can keep messing up and be given another chance. You do not want that sort of thing to get into the players
i know right? aj's heads up run was a massive massive play. i'm starting to think he's one of our best players. his punts are usually beautiful, and then he pulls something like that? i thought he still had time to get a kick off, and he takes off and i think 'oh no' but he got. it was a ballsy move, and he got it. easily the best punter we've had since vinnie burns.
This is a conversation for the off season, not 4 games into this season. We have bigger bees to swat this week.
Lol UNC at 12:30...fuck
UNC game is at 12:30. don't we just all love games at this time. it's like the gift that keeps on giving even when you want it to stop.
If this was his first time getting in trouble I would be okay with a SECOND chance. The guy is not learning though. I know it will suck with our kicking game but you have to set examples.......
Did anyone see any of Marshall's pee-wee-sized WR's give up on a ball? I didn't. Even on Jarrett's pick, he just flat-out beat the WR. I see too much of Knowles giving up, rather than the defender beating him. Also, when you're on the first down line on 3rd and 18 in OT and the ball hits you in the hands.... gotta hold onto that. I think he's a good kid and he's got some great athletic ability, but yes, I definitely agree that there are better receiving options on the roster at this point.
Punt return and kick return have actually been pretty awful. That punt return last game that got called back would have been the only real good contribution our return team has made this year.
A lot of teams talk about how many titles they've won and all that stuff. And fine, I mean who wouldn't want to brag about that? But the one thing I've always been able to say about Virginia Tech's football program is that we've done what we've done the right way and that Beamer handles this program with class and respect.
I'm a lot tighter on this than most people and think that if you're getting the privellage to play for a premier D-1 college football program and you screw up with a drug test, arrest, or whatever you should automatically lose your spot on the team and any scholarship you have, period, end of discussion.
But I also understand many of these players have grown up in a different culture and a different background from me and college is a place to learn both in and out of the class room so given second chances is understandable.
However, Cody had his second chance and blew it. He has let the team down yet again and blown a chance that literally thounsands of kids wish they had. Maybe you won't believe me but I mean this when I say it; I would rather us miss every single FG opportunity we have the rest of the year, than let him back on this team.
Beamer isn't going anywhere, when he retires it won't be because Tech forced him it will be 100% his choice.
Whatever Cody did it was pretty poor timing. (not that there's a good time to be suspended)
but, given his past, I think the ONLY reason he's still on the team is that other than Saturday
no one else has any experience. Frank's in a tough spot, but he usually makes the right call in these circumstances.
However it plays out, Frank will have our best and most appropriate option on the field. GO HOKIES!
Great stuff as always.
I encourage everyone to upvote the crap out of this truly classic piece of humor.
There is absolutely no way Beamer would get fired in the next 3-4 years at LEAST. The new staff is going to require time to get in a full recruiting cycle and get their personnel going. Until I see Beamer himself holding us back I am happy with him.
The guy is a leader and a legend. He will admit when he is wrong although it can take some time. He made the required coaching changes when it wouldnt shoot himself in the foot. I saw a post recently that pointed out that if Beamer had fired his offensive staff when the team was still winning 10 games a season it would risk losing some trust with potential hires. I know its not the same exact scenario but it could be like Maryland and Fridge.
People want results immediately and so many have forgotten what the word patience is. CFB shouldnt even be a target right now. It is the offensive staff that needs patience. Heck our ST he realized he needed to change things up and use veterans. IF he was not making changes like this then it would be a completely different story

I really hope he makes the mistake of trying to "challenge" Facyson with a slant or hitch route.
