I don't think our offense will be "humming" before we play GT, but I do think it is slowly improving. Yes, our running game was non-existent this week but ECU knew that Thomas and our Receiving Corps was struggling and they game-planned to stop the run and force Thomas to beat them with his arm. I think that Thomas made some pretty good throws and the receivers didn't look quite as piss-poor as they did against Bama. Progress has been made and with over 250 yds passing we've shown that we can at least move the ball some. Teams will eventually have to start respecting the passing game which will open up the running game. I think Thomas looks better every week and that's encouraging.

I don't know when our offense will be to the point that it's "humming" but I think Thomas and Co need more than 2 weeks to get there

Motley will suprise some people. There is a reason he hasn't been moved to another position. In his spring highlights, he showed a rocket arm and very good pocket awareness, in addition to some pretty good wiggle and wheels.

I think we need to prepare ourselves that the WR problem isn't experience, it's talent. If that's the case, you'll see more experience problems the next two years as we start working in younger, more talented players.

I have sounded the warning bells a few times now on the QB's, and I want to clarify. I think Ford can be a very good player, but he's the kinda guy who is better as a Jr/Sr. If we need to play him early, which I think we will, it could be quite painful. I'm also allowing myself to be surprised about Bucky, he has awful mechanics but he gets the ball where it needs to go. Maybe Loeffler can fix it. I don't consider Leal and/or Motley to be more than game-manager-backup-type QB's. My projection right now is that Leal starts the year next year and Ford replaces him in October.

I think we need to win this year, we can't write this off as a rebuild. An epically good defense and a senior QB can turn into an ACC Championship season. I'm seeing a dropoff the next few years, but if it doesn't come, it will likely be on the backs of a stout rushing game and a seasoned OL. I've got a lot of faith in Grimes, no matter how awful that piss-fest in Greenville was on Saturday. Grimes may be the best offensive coach VT has ever employed, and frankly, I wouldn't mind him as the next Head Coach.

I actually thought that exact same thing right before one of Facyson's picks. Though he was gonna take it back too if he didn't trip.

After a VT punt this weekend, I had a very 2006 thought: 'Okay, the offense didn't turn it over and actually gained some field position. Maybe now our defense can score.'

Do you think that if he had back spasms maybe the coach(es) should have sat him if he couldn't even make an extra point? There are other kickers on the team. This goes into the category of another special teams blunder, of which there have been many over the past few years.

Umm... I think you all forgot about these schools that are ranked in the top 10:

Clemson
South Carolina

I imagine these were on his list and not VT.

"Facyson's 2nd interception was a circus catch"

I agree. Was watching with my father (a UNC alum, but is a good guy, I swear! He always pulls for VT outside of the annual match-up...) and he noted 'usually if a football hits a guy's facemask, he's not going to end up coming up with it.' Took an incredible amount of concentration and coordination for Facyson to bring that in. Pretty sure the 'sure' interception the ECU DE dropped (off the intended screen pass to Mangus in the flat) got him in the facemask, as an example of how that usually goes for an incompletion.

I like Fordham for the same reason I like Furman.

Any college where I can get a "FU" t-shirt at the bookstore is tops on my scorecard.

Facyson's 2nd interception was a circus catch but showed incredible concentration.

I really hope we win out and Clemson win out so we can meet in Charlotte. I want to payback Clemson for all the beatings they have given.

Only on special teams against Western Carolina... and I'm guessing he got in against ECU as well. Not a major loss. He had knee problems last year too.

I know, but after this year Exum and Ky. Fuller graduate...this year would be the only year you'd consider it (once Exum is back). Facyson and Ke. Fuller will be our top two corners next year.

On your point about wide receivers, I think Knowles caught well with his hands this week. He will end up being solid across the middle and in the slot I think

This has echoes of Fort Hood. God help the victims and their families.

wait what? RVD and DVD out? maybe I missed this, but did DVD play much this year yet?

Well, Bud tends to keep the rover and free safety on the field at all times. I could see a situation perhaps where Tyler or Edwards are taken out and Jarrett plays at a linebacker spot with Exum in Jarrett's role to the boundary. I can't recall a situation where the Hokies replaced the mike or backer along with the whip though.
