I've lobbied for looking at this staff change to progress along the timeline that you'd expect for a new head coaching hire. There's going to be an adjustment period where we try to fit the existing pieces into the new scheme and fill in players with skillsets that are better suited to what the new coaches need. Typically, a successful coaching hire will show significant improvement in year three and onwards. I think we need to be realistic about the time tables here.

The good news is I think we're already seeing improvement in some of the most needed areas, principally offensive line and overall offensive strategy so the early signs point to success. Obviously we have a long way to go to get back to where we want to be, but each success will breed more. If you survey the competitive landscape of the ACC in particular and CFB in general, I think recruiting will need to be a major cornerstone of any improvement project. Clemson and FSU have risen to their potential and it's going to take a lot more to compete with their level of athletes. I think these guys have what it takes to get us there, but we will need to be patient.

Not sure Kyle is big enough to be a safety.

I think Frank is just being supportive of his player to the public. I'm sure he's working with CJ in practice to correct issues, and is as constructively critical as any coach would be. Frank just isn't letting the public see the inner workings of the team. He's also got to work on building CJ's confidence and saying anything else publicly would not be supportive of that effort.

I like Frank's coach speak, to be honest. He's very good at deflecting things that cause media storms at other schools and turn into bigger distractions. He's very good at protecting his program.

I think a lot of LT's problems is still in his throwning motion. Too often he drops the ball (almost to his waist) when surveying the field. Also (and potentially a result of the dropping) he has a really long wind-up. This causes him to deliver the ball a touch late (giving the DB a chance to recover)...also causing him to try and make up with throwing it harder (touch passes don't seem to be his thing).

On top of all of that, I don't think he fully trusts his receivers yet. Rarely do you see him anticipate a receiver being open and then throwing to where he will be.

Logan still looks like he has issues. He waits too long to pull the trigger and then fires it too hard to compensate for a late throw. He should be anticipating the routes more and throwing to spots. He missed a few easy throws against ECU, especially going to the right. There were a couple drops but there was improvement by the receivers. It seems LT is trying too hard to make perfect throws or avoid INTs. It could also be trust in the receivers to run routes correctly. It doesn't always seem smooth and effortless like you see with a good passing attack. The passing game is improving but needs to get better.

It's not like Cody hasn't made them before. He won us several games last year in case you forgot. If he comes out Saturday and misses them again, I expect Beamer to make changes. Otherwise, Beamer having confidence in his players who have a bad game helps them to regain their confidence. Do you expect Beamer to rip his senior kicker apart because he had a bad game? What good would that do?

Frank is no Harbaugh. While it is frustrating to hear Frank shrug off mistakes and problems, he's done it many times in the past. He's not a head coach that typically airs his frustrations to media. He'll do his best to take care of it without drawing attention to a player. I kind of admire that, even if it makes him seem delusional at times.

This is a freindly debate, but I agree to certain extinct I think Hosley got a lot of productivity out of his 9 ints in one season, but he was horrible at run support. He had in my opinion hands just as good as Macho if not better. I agree, Macho did give up some easy completions but so did Hosley. They both relied on a lot of short area quickness to jump routes that would bait the opposing QB to pass to pick them off. But Hosley gave a ton of big plays when he was here which was more frustrating like the Wake Forest game. He said it was his hammy, but it happened consistently against bigger aggressive wideouts he seemed to struggle with more, because of his size.

As for Flowers I can't say he was so spectacular I mean just about every DB is going to give up some plays they won't keep many DB's from catching some passes. In my opinion Flowers was great when he played with Macho, but they were both even in my opinion. The only thing that seperates them is speed. Flowers ran a 4.55 electronically and a hand-timed 4.54, while Macho was a 4.68 electronically, while running a hand-timed 4.46 although I will rather hold to the electronic time than the hand-timed. They both had great football quickness on the field.

And I was pretty young so I didn't get to see Gray playing much or charleton as much. I could go off of there highlights, but that wouldn't benefit how good they really were when they played. But overall DBU this is a good debate we've had so many DB's that have come through this program that we can actually develop lists.

Our tailgate buds had them in Hawaii a few years back and they've been a tailgate staple ever since.

Also, it is totally appropriate to classify a tequila sunrise as Hokie colored.

im at a loss as to why frank can be so nonchalant about the kicking situation. especially after the debacle that has been the special teams that we've had so far this year, to say that hes not worried at all kinda pisses me off. fact is, journell cost us 7-10 points on saturday which costs us the game against a better team, and 2 of those misses were absolute ducks. news flash frank, the special teams is struggling, dont tell me your not worried about it at all

Agreed, and additionally, prospective NFL draft status shouldn't figure into the equation, either. As a coach, you do what is best for the team and the health of the player. You can't control the future of these guys, beyond putting them in a position to succeed and excel at their position. You can't even assure them of that success or excellence, only that you can put them in position to achieve it. Excellence is the determination of the athlete.

Macho's strength was making big plays when the ball was up for grabs, but he regularly got burned or gave up easy completions that some of our other all-time greats did not.

Flowers, Ike Charleton, Hall, Hosely, Gray, Jimmy Williams, and Eric Green are all guys I'd rate above Harris as best college CB at VT in the last 20 years.

Pitt-VT at night? I don't mean to sound critical, this honestly just curiosity, but what makes you think that? I sorta thought for sure it would be a nooner.

Chocolate coconut pancakes sound amazing!

We were looking at doing mimosas with BrunchGating, but I think we've upped the ante to tequila sunrises because they are (sorta') VT's colors.

Looks like another high-powered QB (against inferior competition) coming to town this week. I have confidence in the D, but this always makes me nervous. Either we make him look silly, or have the opportunity to get burned one too many times while adjusting and the offense is still finding itself. Am I still suffering from 2012?

oh my lord I want breakfast now. I love french toast anything.
chocolate coconut pancakes will be had at our tailgate.
and some bacon. because bacon.
probably hash brown casserole as well. breakfast potatoes are the best.

"I really hope we win out and Clemson win out so we can meet in Charlotte. I want to payback Clemson for all the beatings they have given."

They have just been giving us payback for the 5 straight beat downs we put on them
