Miami hasn't been able to beat us in consecutive years in the ACC, and that needs to continue. Pitt and UNC also need some serious payback from us.
Lot of work to do, but I think this team is capable of winning the ACC. Definitely capable of winning the Coastal. I'm not sure about GT, but UNC and Miami have not impressed me thus far. I know Miami beat Florida, but that was at home, and that Florida offense...damn. Just damn. UNC's win over Middle Tennessee was pedestrian at best.
Jack Willenbrock needs to bulk up (currently listed at 237 pounds) before he's a starting center.
McGlock... really sounds badassed!
Honestly, the Drew Harris ship has sailed as far as I'm concerned and I believe F$U gave him an offer. Fisher's going to FUMA and will probably return to Blacksburg in the fall (ala Jonathan McLaughlin). I wasn't able to find anything on Reid. Maybe someone can do better than I can?

# | Does anybody know if we will ever get the 4 Star recruits who didn't qualify academically? Drew Harris is a negative. Fisher and Reid are greyshirting at Fork Union I believe, at least I know Fisher is. They should both be on board for the 2014 class.
Let's just hope that there is definitely not a Wang injury! That's the kind of thing NOBODY wants to experience!

Am I missing anyone?
Turkey leg because I LOVE your picture. That was one of my single favorite moments of the game!
I'm all for staying until the end of the game but you might want to choose a different example than the '99 Syracuse game. The year before, Syracuse's Donovan McNabb beat us on a last second TD to win the game in heartbreaking fashion. We owed them payback for that one. In '99 ESPN College Gameday was in town for the matchup. We were ranked #4 and they were #15 ish. That's a little different scenario than playing a team that we have no history with and struggles to win a FCS game.
These guys were recruiting studs in HS.
Also, couldn't they have just sold ad space to put on the screened portion over the speakers and not to take up space on the video screen? You lose way too much with ads lining either side of it.
Per ESPN, McGahee and Jacobs are trying out. TC hasn't given up on DW, says he is too much talent, but wants to get some depth. Supposedly, they were going to try out McGahee before the game anyway. TC said he loves DW, just dislikes losing the ball everytime he runs.
During the game, I noticed that DW was timid. He even avoided a couple of blocks. He has a bit of a head problem if you ask me.
The fumbling will be an easy fix. He just needs to hold it better. Tiki started holding it high and crossed, and his fumbling went down tremendously.
For the defense, if I understand the pattern correctly, the defensive front is called in the huddle. If the whip is in, he and the rover align based on strength of the passing formation. If the nickel is in, the nickel identifies the most dangers slot receiver and aligns on him. The rover goes to the boundary and the free safety goes to the field (even when the rover plays inside the box.)
Once everybody is aligned, someone signals to the free safety the defensive coverage calls. The free safety has to communicate those calls to the other defensive backs. If noise is an issue, the free makes the call to the rover and the rover relays to the boundary corner.
Incorrect. David Wang was given a medical hardship waiver, and will be back in 2014 for his 6th year.
We should have a very, very good offensive line in 2014, as we will only lose Andrew Miller. But we need to work on 2015 depth in a big, big way.
whats with those 2 sitting? Come on guys!
That would be cool but the lights aren't like the lights in your kitchen where you can just put in a dimmer switch :) They need to "warm up" i believe and take a while to do so. I think they actually turn them on pretty early for night games.
But yes, using the new scoreboard for some dramatic effect would be kind of cool
Offensive PI is only a 15 yd penalty...an you get to keep the ball! WRs should be taught if you can't car h the ball...better damn well make sure the other team doesn't. (Obviously within the rules).
That being said...Logan has to give him a chance to make the play.
I think both, especially Teller, are on the same emergency plan that the team used with Michael Vick in 1998, Ryan Williams in 2008, and tried to use with Tyrod Taylor in 2007.
Essentially, the offensive line has a set contingency plan right now to deal with injuries. With Miller out:
- If McLaughlin gets hurt, Conte will play right tackle and Gibson will move to left tackle.
- If Caleb Farris gets hurt, Benedict would likely move to left guard, and Conte would play right guard.
- If Wang gets hurt, Farris would move to center, with Benedict moving to left guard, and Conte playing right guard.
- If Benedict gets hurt, Conte would play right guard.
- If Gibson is hurt, Conte plays right tackle.
When Shuman is healthy, he becomes the first man up at both the guard and tackle spots, with Farris moving to center if there is a Wang injury. Matt Arkema has looked much better in mop up duty against Alabama and WCU, so perhaps Grimes could develop some trust in him.
As we all know, plans are made, but the great generals are the ones who still in the battle even when the plan goes haywire. Grimes allowed every player on the offensive line to learn multiple positions, and assignments essentially flip flop regardless of side in the running game. Moving people around in fall camp now has created some flexibility where in the past we had talented guys at backup positions while less talented guys started at weaker positions.
Teller and Osterloh play a role. With Miller hurt, and Shuman's status uncertain, the Hokies could manage have one more failsafe in Augie Conte. From my understanding, Teller and Osterloh are taking #2 repetitions in practice, so they have not been relegated to the scout team (I will ask Andy Bitter if he can follow up on that topic) and would be ready to play in the face of an emergency. All will be well.
Next season, Miller and Wang will depart. This flexibility will help make the transition that much easier.
If you are not 5 Min early...you are LATE!
This webpage loads oddly on my phone. The links shift every 20 or so seconds and so far I've just clicked the wrong thread or link. Probably something similar with down voting.
Agree and they just blew an opportunity to get him some quality playing time, however, the starters need all the reps they can get, too. They are vastly improved. Proud of them!
His basement is unreal. I like the framed lifetime tickets to any VT sporting event and the $1,000,000 framed check to the University.
Knowles needs to get feisty. He isn't fighting for the ball like he has to be. The balls were underthrown however he still needs to make a play for the ball. I felt like both of those passes Saturday and especially against Alabama were plays that he just wasn't aggressive enough.

Not that the rankings mean anything at this point, but composite rankings for future reference:
