Dont know, but he was one of the oddest profs I had there. Half the time I swear he was hammered, and he had a tendency of getting midway through an overhead of notes, see he had written something wrong, would write/yell Boo!!! on his notes, crumple it up and start over. This obviously threw all of us for a bit of a loop as we never knew exactly what he wrote that was wrong. And when he invited us all to go to the Lyric to see him in the RHPS, the idea of him recreating Tim Curry's character was more then a little frightening!

I don't think anyone would argue that we shouldn't have even been in that position. We should have scored and put that game away many time before that. But like the Rutgers game last year it wasn't pretty, but I'm still gonna remember that win. Just as I'm still gonna remember having the Catch ripped away from us and referee's handing the win to Michigan.

All very true, but in every game we fixate on one play as the defining play. That catch represents everything you just said for that game. We should have won it. Denard "Air Ball" Robinson should've had that TD pass picked but somehow he didn't.

I think we are all talking about the same thing. WHY CAN'T IT BE AUG 31 YET?!

IMPORTANT: There is no such things as too many fans! It will get very warm sometimes and you just have to suck it up. Tower fans are crucial.

Had the same thought til I saw the schedule had already been announced and was incompatible.

Any current students (or nearby residents) up for getting a TKP pickup football game goin on the drillfield at the start of the semester?

I agree with you and Hokieshibe below you (about comments like mine being booed), but don't mistake what I said for not having passion or missing out on the majesty. My saturdays are often ruined by a VT loss and I will always have a sick feeling when remembering games like boise St., the matt ryan debacle, and the sugarbowl. My best memories are the hard fought games and the blue collar mentality that got us to where we are now. Having that touchdown ripped away made me mad. But what is constantly overlooked with the Danny Coale catch is how horrible the rest of that game was. It should have never come down to the refs having to make a call like that. We should have won that game in regulation.

To me I get tired of the debate, because if Virginia Tech came out and played that game like they were capable of and capitalized on red zone opportunities, this dispute would not exist.

377 total yards to 184
36:50 to 23:10 time of possession

If someone showed me those stats, I would have said the game was won 28 or 35 to 10.

I should also point out that I don't go about daily life mumbling about any of these things (well outside of TKP). I am a fully functional member of society pre and post football season. However, every year around this time, all the times I won't forget come back and I get to put on my maroon jersey (#ALLMAROONEVERYTHING) throw back a few beers and cheer my ass off hoping that this will, indeed, be our year.

When we do win the crystal ball it will that much sweeter because of all the heartbreak that has come before.

ok, ok... I apologize for trying to sound reasonable. I should have just led with this:

This would have been useful to know...damn.

Just finished running the stairs on the east side for the 1st time (I'm going to be dead for the next couple days), and they weren't doing testing any of the time I was out there, but standing underneath the north stands and looking up at it really gives you a feel for just how huge it is.

I agree with this. You don't want to schedule 8am's but if you can pack all of your classes to start around 930/10 and end sometime before 4 you will have a lot more time to be productive before night activities roll around.

Move on? I STILL haven't moved on from Matt Ryan and the Thursday night dagger. I refuse to draft him in fantasy because I still hate him. I also still haven't moved on from the last time UVA beat us on the horseshit offsides call on the blocked punt that completely changed the game.

Good sir, if you move on then the victories aren't as sweet. I love every time we beat BC and still shout a big "F.U." to Jagodinsky (or however you spell it) and Ryan.

Edit: And as much as Wilford has redeemed himself from the drop, I still haven't gotten over that either.

So does a former Taco Bell employee!

Ah, I see.

Is Glanville still there? I had him for freshman chem in McBryde 100 in '99

lots of good comments here. to piggyback on some of them:
1. get some fresh air and visit Dragons Tooth and the Cascades trails. Both are great hikes and not too far to drive to.
2. London Broil at West End. that is all
3. Go to the Home Place at least once, Best roast beef ever.
4. Get in with some people and play some ultimate frisbee on the drillfield, just dont run over the LARPers...
5. Echoing from above, go to every home football game and stay the whole time!
6. Turkey Legs! You will find it is harder to find them after you graduate, so eat your fill and then some.
7. Definitely make yourself noticed, in a good way, in regards to your profs, and the TA's can be a great source of help, if they arent douchebags...
8. Avoid McBryde 100 for 8 am classes at all cost. I still have nightmare, even after 13 years, of freshman chem with Dr. Glanville in that room, and his crazy love affair with booze and the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
9. make sure you lock up your bike, it will get stolen otherwise, and campus pd is no help when it come to that.
10. Have fun, and dont violate the Jackass rule!

I still remember crossing the Drillfield one morning in February sans hat and touching my hair when I got to McComas and saying "Wait a minute, I didn't put hair gel in this morning". My hair must have still been a bit wet when I left the dorms and it froze.

Boo measured and reasonable responses! Football is about fanatacism, bearing wildly stupid grudges, and getting overly worked up.

I hope others don't downvote you for this comment, as everyone has a right to their opinion. (except for you DandyDave!) But I do feel that you have missed out on the majesty of college football and what VT football is about. We are the blue collar guys building ourselves into something better. Something that can reach and obtain the very pinnacle of success. The overlooked guys that have a chip on their shoulder and a ingrained desire to knock off the bigger guy.

Having that touchdown ripped away from us was something that cannot be overlooked and forgotten, because it takes away from the very nature of who we are. We should have won. We did win.

It's the passion that's behind the nature of who VT is that makes it such a bittersweet memory that will remain unforgotten, and definitely unforgivable.

Pretty much all of the freshman residence halls have no AC, and it really isn't too bad after that first month. So don't go around saying you have the worst hall for that reason alone. More importantly, what really makes a res hall great is the people in it. I "lived" in Miles last year (now a Sophomore), but I pretty much spent most of my day in Slusher because that's where all my friends were.
