I hated the empo, it's like a casino except without all the things that make a casino awesome.

You could go in there after lunch and then leave at midnight, you would never know if you didn't look at a clock because you can't see outside.

Might have to try #3, I tend to go to a quiet floor in the library.

Not to mention it is a great spectator sport for obvious reasons.

1. Go to class. It's surprisingly easy to fail organic chemistry if you have no idea what's going on.

2. Work on campus.

3. You'll learn to love studying at the Empo when you don't have class there.

That was legit offsides in '03, sad to say...

This! I ran out of money so early in the semester!

I loved the point system of that class! Had my "A" a couple months before the semester ended.

That's funny. +1

Can we get a guy who has a personality complex about being a Hokie Bird? I think we could get some mileage out of that one.
What about a thugged out Ibis, or an illegally chopping yellow jacket? The possibilities are far reaching...

Get some friends together and stay in Blacksburg at least one summer during your time there. It's a totally different experience but just as awesome, if not more awesome. I spent the best summer of my life in Blacksburg.

To add to that. Approaching girls is only as difficult as you make it to be. Being confident is usually all you need but if you are still feeling shy watch this video and your problems will be solved:

Some of this has already been said, but I'll post my thoughts.

1. Keep your door open, and more generally, meet new people. If you're convinced you're going to college solely for an education and you plan to survive on your own with your face buried in a book, you're doing it wrong. College is an education, for sure, but it's a formative life experience more than anything. The people you meet will shape your life. It sounds cliche, but it's true.

2. Everyone is smart. Welcome to college; you're no longer the top in your class. Everyone around you is. There was some ridiculous statistic of how many valedictorians VT had enrolled in the freshman class. Blew my mind at the time, but I forget the actual number. The way to succeed isn't just to be smart in the traditional sense, it's to learn from those around you and help each other (see point #1).

3. Related to #2 (I'm noticing just how inter-connected this post has become), the way to success is not just to be smart, it is to be organized. If you dedicate a little time each day to studying and tasks, there is ample time for all the fun stuff - parties, sports, hanging out on the quad doing nothing, etc. The successful ones are the organized ones. I quickly learned in freshman year exactly what it was going to take to cut it. Having never really learned how to study in HS, I adjusted my lifestyle to be more efficient and did well in school but also had a ton of fun while doing it.

#4 got my roommate a couple times this past semester!

So many great points. Mine is a general one.

Go back and look at everything you just packed that you are absolutely sure you are going to need. Now cut that shit in half. You don't need it. At least not at first. Go a semester with the bare minimum and then figure out if you need anything more.

This also helps with you getting out of your room and meeting people.

8 am classes aren't that bad if you can get a good night's rest. The problem becomes those late night study sessions, or game marathons, or mid-week shenanigans.

Just have some self discipline and realize that most times you need to make yourself do what you have to do to make it to that class. The late nights will happen and when they do you just have to suck it up once in awhile (or skip if that's feasable).

Personally, if you haven't been to a early morning class hungover you haven't done college right.

Make it a goal to get your degree. Write it down! Don't load up with 5 extremely hard classes in the same semester. Fun will be all around you, but take care of business and go to class and do your homework. Sit in front of the class and ask questions. Trust me, others are thinking the same question.

And that's why they call him the Phreak

I too have a soft spot for PJ and I'm a Vad Lee believer. But two things regarding my prediction:

1. I think they will move to at least a more pass-intensive offensive with Lee, and that will take some time. They also lost their only good WR. It may be more shot-gun running or passing, but either way, it will be a change from what we've seen and it will take a while for them to be fully proficient.

2. It seems to me that their defense did a lot to keep the last few years games close, and our mistakes on offense.

That said, I did forget that this game is a short week for us. Just going to Atlanta on a short week is tough, but playing PJ on a short week makes it that much worse. I think you're right, this will be a toss up game.

Regarding dinning dollars. If you're a boy with even an average appetite they don't just go fast they go CRAZY fast. Pro Tip for this, plan ahead and find a few petite girls and make friends with them. They have dining dollar for days and never run out in a semester. They will treat you routinely if you're a good friend to them.
