Hopefully, this defense takes some turnovers to the house, like the good ole days.
I have decided to upvote his humbleness. Since he could be the first in history to go into negative turkey legs..
The defense will absolutely have to play lights-out, every game for this season to be an upgrade from last. Just like they used to do. It looks like we have the pieces mostly in place.
The running backs seems to be making progress, but the receivers need to reel in those catches.
Confession: I'm actually an ODU student (just transferred). Pretty cool to see them moving up. I'm teletechnet though (online based) and living in Lynchburg. It's funny to see them moving up so quick and Liberty (who is "waiting" on an invite) still losing in the Big South.
Anyway - Carry on.
Thomas finished the day 5-for-15 for 72 yards and two interceptions
I know it was only a scrimmage, but Loeffler had the goal of Logan reaching a completion percentage of >60% and <6 interceptions for the year. Currently, Logan is way off of these marks. 2 weeks away from the season, I would have expected better.
Bravo. Our guys will have to come ready to play for sure, but the only game that matters is the one that plays out on the field.
I'll be doing some broadcasting work for teams in Loudoun and Fairfax County teams. I'll try to pass along any info that I can find on these guys.
I completely agree with this. Logan might have a rough year stats wise (similar to last year) and yet there might not be much more he could do. It all starts with the OL, which i expect to improve over last year. Next we need to see more out of the RBs, which is a group I believe has more potential this year than last as well. By far my biggest concern is the WRs, and French's scrimmage report certainly doesn't have me feeling much better about them as a whole. I may be beating a dead horse, but I'm not feeling very confident in DJ Coles being available or a great playmaker this year, especially given the info we're hearing out of camp. So yes, I'm also worried about the offensive unit as a whole, but I'm far more concerned about specific positions leading to struggles that may be shouldered by LT.
Nice job French! Charlie Meyer was in blue and didn't participate during the scrimmage, the drop in the end zone was by Willie Byrn.
Do you think once we start playing against defenses not built around stopping this style of run game (Charley Wiles compared Grimes blocking scheme to FSU, and we all know how we did against them), we might have some success? What kind of numbers are you expecting from the running game this year?
Can anyone remember a preseason that didn't have the defense whooping the offense? The offense also had its hands tied behind its back since we still haven't unleashed 3rd and Logan. I know Leoffler says he doesn't like running the quarterback, but I really hope he will make an exception versus Bama and have at least 10 designed runs in the game with Logan. If he doesn't, we will be left wondering what if. If Logan rushes for 100 yards, I like our chances.
Great stuff but unless we cloned Jon McLaughlin, I think you meant Laurence Gibson at Right Tackle. Thanks for the analysis!
Great write-up, but one question comes to mind. Did DJ Coles get any snaps?
I think what you're saying isn't so much about Logan but that it was a harbinger to the lackluster offense we saw last year and you hope it's not the same for this year. I share that fear.
However, I think we all have to remember that no matter how great Lefty's new offense is, and how much promise the new RB's, WR's and OL has the fact remains that they are all still NEW.
It's going to take time and I'm sure that every game is going to be full of flashes of greatness and mind numbing frustration. I think it would be unfair to judge Lefty's Beach Flow with only one game or one season. He needs time to rebuild our program. That doesn't mean they can't win. They will struggle but together there is hope to beat anyone. Yes, even to #BEATBAMA
And.... off the soapbox
I'm not saying its not the WR's. I'm just saying that it sounds exactly like the scrimmages reports from last year, and we know how that turned out.
I'm probably being too judgmental, but a couple beers on an empty stomach before lunch will do that.
Nice write up Andy! Did the offense run more then in the spring game or was it more of the same?
I agree and I do believe that the defense is just that good. The INT's are the most troubling..the 76 yards on the ground without the top two backs seems like a positive thing.
I think you have to realize how incredibly inexperienced the WR corps is. We are so thin/inexperienced there that it's insane.
Trimble with the first team, DiNardo with the second team.
Who was playing Whip?
Gotta love a beat write calling out another one:
Beamer had forgotten about the punishments he was going to dole out for that fight and thanked the media for reminding him about it. (I won't snitch, so we'll just say the person who asked the question is Mike B. No, that's too obvious. We'll go with M. Barber.)
Bitter's pulling no punches. Love it
Im just going to say it (Hopefully no down votes):
I asked Bitter last year what he thought it meant that Logan was only going 5-15 in scrimmages.. He replied that it wasn't a big deal, because there were a lot of new receivers, and he hadn't jelled with them enough to be productive. In my head, i didn't feel good about it, and sure enough, the offense never manifested any sustained success.
Well fast forward to this year, and a whole off season to work with Loeffler, and Logan's being about as productive. It doesn't make me feel awesomely optimistic.
Gosh, i feel horrible for saying that. I was really hoping for an offensive showing today. Hopefully others that actually attended the scrimmage may be able to share some insight, as to why I am wrong to think like this.
Me.
Yeah, I was hoping it was something from the scrimmage today. I was going to go, but then I forgot they switched the times even though I tried to remind myself last night. Anyone actually go?
I wish we could down vote the actual topic...

I'm getting ready for year #2. LETS GET IT
