I hear you on all of this and am sure that is reason Manning left but we are awfully thin at Corner and the overall secondary so it is concerning to me. We have had a ton of misses in recruiting the last few years and why we are so poor at RB, OL, WR right now. I know they have righted this ship in this area w Shane so that is all encouraging for the future but we might have to live through another .500 season. I just dont see how we have the horses to be much better this year.

Wow, LOLUVA fans are really reaching in their trash talk this year. With this and fake Beamer twitter they actually look like they have some confidence that they are going to be something more than mediocre.

Let's predict for them shall we:
BYU: Cougars by 2 touchdowns.
Oregon: Ducks put in 3rd string by half time. loss by at least 30 points.
VMI: LOLUVA wins by a touchdown
Pitt: I'm saying they play close but lose by 10
Ball State: Upset Alert. LOLUVA may actually beat them... maybe
Maryland: LOL-Coaches Bowl. While London is still more LOL, Edsall takes the win.
Duke: Close game. The Spectacular Zima's fight through at the end and squeak by with a win.
GT: Another loss. Paul "I coach kids how to legally chop block" Johnson will have his offense humming by now, and LOLUVA has no defense.
Clemson: Tigers stomp.
UNC: Close game but still a loss.
Miami: Duke Johnson sets Miami record for most yardage in a game. Loss
VT: 38-0 bro. Wash, rinse, repeat. London cries again.

I realize the good fan at LOLUVA was being satirical but in a very real world scenario LOLUVA comes through with a laughable 2 (maybe 3) wins.

wow -51 on one comment, has to be some kind of record. i feel like box's horse on a treadmill on the new scoreboard gif has got to be a record for upvotes on a single comment. what's it up to? +65?

Losses to the Terps and UVA huh. Hm. When was the last time that happened.

At this point, if beating VT is all that keeps "can't manage a time clock but is a cop" around, then UVA has their priorities out of whack.

Since some UVA hack got to write out our season, here is my attempt:

UVA vs Oregon: ducks by 3800, sending the wahoos into an oblivion of not knowing which way is which.

UVA regains footing, scores a touchdown in week 2 but doesn't win another game. Ever.

The dancing Jefferson's cry into their beanies and all is still right with the world.

Don't forget UVA, prognosticators can talk all they want. Keep your clock on us, cause when we beat Alabama, the only other game we will look towards will be the last one. After wiping the table.

Enjoy the mental victories in recruits, it's all you've got.

Here's the problem with only getting 4 and 5 star recruits. They expect to play. If they are not starting in 2 years or so some will walk. Others in the meantime just won't work out. homesick, don't like the campus, etc... lots of reasons.

This is why it is so important for VT coaches to find those recruits that are 2 and 3 stars (even walk-ons! here's looking at you tyler, meyer and, of course, grimm and those before you) that have the talent that has been over looked or is just under the surface ready to come out with good, solid coaching. This is what VT football is all about to me. We pull in the big 5 and 4 stars and surround them with hard working, undiscovered talent looking for a chance.

So I wouldn't be so worried about our secondary recruiting. We attract big recruits to play for us (fuller) and find others that have the overlooked gifts (fayscon).

I might have not been clear.. nothing about the talent level (DeAngelo was top 2 or 3 recruits in the VA if I recall) they sign kids who don't pan out because they either don't cut it or are not good enough.. there is a pattern of recruiting in the most recent few years where players do not work out, have no idea why.. so you have to wonder about what the hiring folks are doing that is not working.. nothing different than a board who hires a CEO... if he does not work out, fingers get pointed at the Board who hired him.

My question is VT needs to improve and do a better job of determining which of these recruits are actually going to stick at VT and be successful both in the classroom and on the field. Not blaming anyone or pointing fingers but just calling a spade a spade. Many kids have left the program and wanted to see if anyone had any color on why the disconnect between player and coach expectations.

Here is the list (some are whips/safeties and some slated for defensive secondary):

Theron Norman
Jerrodd Williams
Nick Dew
Dominique Patterson
Boye Aromire
James Farrow
Donaldven Manning
Davion Tookes

I'd say you're overreacting a bit. For whatever reason, some guys just haven't worked out. It happens at every position on every team. I'd say our recruiting receives a darn good grade, considering how young our secondary is and how well they've been performing so far. I'll wait until November to really pass judgement though.

Is this your opinion or you have a list of those who have left along with incoming rating? Part of the process is figuring out where people fit, and how well. We've all seen teams just plug in a 4 or 5 star kid and think the raw talent will make up for any shortcomings. This staff has taken diamonds in the rough and helped them become NFL ready studs (Kam Chancellor, Deangelo Hall, etc) up to guys like 5* Macho Harris. The ratings only tell you how well they may be as an athlete in a position(s). Nonetheless, that doesn't always translate into the skillsets or a particular scheme at the college level.

The Secondary is and will be fine. Yea, a guy like Manning is transferring, but only because he couldn't crack the depth chart well enough here and may get what he's looking for elsewhere. Also, you know Kendall Fuller was a top CB, let alone athlete in the nation right?

Two questions: is LT still staring down his primary receiver? (I can't tell from the short video clip) and two, was the whole body unit language (QB and RB) completely different between a real handoff and fake? (I remember Stanford and Luck executing that so well it was hard to tell who had the ball).

I don't want moral victory. Them going home banged up and wishing they hadn't played us isn't enough anymore.

60 game minutes removed from 5:30 on August 31, we walk out of the Atlanta Dome after kicking the fucking door in and getting back to Tech football.

I'm with RiVa. #BeatBama

I wear my Hokie stuff all the time here. No one seems to care. I think you are more likely to see more apparel from other schools combined than tOSU on a daily basis. It feels like highschool again in that regard.

Super Senior in da house!

Enjoy it man, it's the best time of your life.

I've heard that one of LCA's recievers is borderline on getting an offer depending on available spots, how his grades go (borderline qualifier), etc. Coach Rocco (yes, the father of that other Rocco) considers him the best reciever he's ever had which includes D. Knowles.

I wouldn't necesarily read too much into Kendal playing FC over Fayson in the scrimmage today. It could just be the coaches trying to get Kendal more reps since Fayson got a lot in the spring. I don't think its settled yet who will be #1back there and wouldn't be surprised to see Gray give them both at least series or two against Bama since we probably won't run much nickel in that game.

I honestly think they are making a big deal about the pass protection. Gayle is playing a man on a mission to hunt/kill/destroy because he feels disrepected by the ACC media members. Hope he does that to McCarron early and often enough to pick his teeth out of his cleats. 1st team defense versus 2nd team offense? Please. That's like pitting the varsity team against 8th grade football.

How about Windmuller? He had his punt blocked, but what does he do? Calmly scoops up the football and race for a first down. BEAMERBAWWWWWWWLLLLLL! I had to say it.

Leal has to be looking over his shoulder because Motley is playing pretty good. Coming from a Jet Wing-T offense, I think he has a chance to make the case to be a starter, or at least the back-up. It is going to be an entertaining battle between Leal, Motley, and maybe Ford.

I am convinced after watching Bucky take 3 snaps, he is headed for a redshirt, the kid is extremely raw. He mishandled two snaps. One thing about Logan, I noticed he was "coaching" Bucky when he was on the field. That is extremely refreshing to see.

Overall, I think we will be ok after 8/31/13.

I don't think there's anyone Lynchburg that the Hokies are targeting. If you guys know anyone let me know.

As a current tOSU student, I could probably swing by and observe Brady Taylor smashing a few D-linemen
