It was a better scrap than I am used to seeing in football fights where guys yap a bunch and grab each others face masks and shove. Alford and Cline were hand fighting and right as the second whistle blew Cline put Alford on his back. Alford came up swinging and he got five or six hard body blows while Cline was hitting him in the facemask. If there were no pads, someone would have been hurt badly.
Tyrod was definitely a love/hate relationship in the beginning. He was exciting to watch and could escape the pressure Glennon couldn't, but he had an awkward delivery and sometimes just looked like he was trying to get by just like he did in high school. By the time he graduated though, I don't think there is a doubt he made his mark as a Hokie favorite and one for the record books.
IMO, Journell doesn't have the leg to drive the ball over 40 yards in spite of doing it once in Giles.
"This is unacceptable. You are letting your teammates down. Get it together." PG Heavily Paraphrased Version.
I didn't notice Grimes one time. I only noticed Loeffler when he and Logan were working with Bucky. Frank Beamer was much much more hands on than I have seen him in past season. He was is serving every play, calling out schedules on his megaphone. He was talking to players between plays. It was an interesting change of pace, as I have always seen him as a delegator except with special teams.
I am not sure if it has been labeled a concern, but Journell missed both kicks yesterday. He hooked a 42 yarder wide left, and then a 50 yard kick was wide right and might have been short of the cross bar.
I was reading it as a very possible prediction until the last two. 7-5 is the floor, not 5-7. I still think we have a better record this year but absolute worse case this year is 7-5 (8 if you count a bowl win)
so how strict is saban really? we always joke about him letting his kids who get in trouble off easy but that's more just the stereotype of sec coaches. he seems like he'd come down pretty hard on these kids but then again he might take an urban meyer whatever is takes to win approach.
French and I both got excited when Edmunds crushed Reily on a blitz pick-up. I like Edmunds to protect Thomas on pass protection because he's built like a linebacker. Joel Caleb laid a nasty cut block on one play. It wasn't pretty from the stands.
Oh yes, French didn't mention this, but there was a fight that broke out between Alford and Cline. Beamer has promised they will do up and downs until they don't want to fight each other. It was quite entertaining. I think I almost crapped in my pants.
Any guesses on what the average yards per running play were?
Don't worry. I'm sure he'll be back by the 2nd quarter; he's in the SEC.
Yeah for real. All he'd have to do is bring up message board posts from that era. I don't think ANYONE thought Tyrod was the issue.
Did he not see firestiney.com?
Longtime readers know that I am very high on DJ Coles, but he has the same potbelly that James Gayle had last year. That can't be good for his knee.
plenty of people werent sold on tyrod until really the nebraska miracle. he had two tds and eight ints in 08, that's ridiculous. they may not admit it now, but a lot of people were sean backers all the way to the end.
dont get me wrong, i love tyrod. #5 is the only jersey i've ever bought but lets not act like the entire fanbase were all tmobile all the time.
Sorry I know this is was not part of your write up but it looks like Thomas didnt do his receiver any favors by not setting his feet before the throw... I am aware that a D-line is coming get him but I thought I would put out that both Thomas' feet are in the air when he releases
Thanks man, I was on the iPhone posting and got lazy!
To be fair, he did label Marcus Vick as a bust, which is hard to dispute because of his behaviors. Vick had lot of talent, but if he had reeled in his behavior, I think he would have finished at Tech.
Tyrod, to me, is one of the bright stars to come out of Hampton along with E.J. Manuel.
Complete joke. One of the most beloved Hokies of all time. Take a walk, Dallas.
Here's the report from Al.com: http://www.al.com/alabamafootball/index.ssf/2013/08/alabama_cornerback_g....
Alabama sophomore cornerback Geno Smith was arrested for driving under the influence by the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office early Sunday morning, according to a report on the office's website.
Bond was set at $1,000, according to the website.
Smith emerged as a regular contributor in Alabama's secondary during his freshman campaign and was in line for significant snaps at the Crimson Tide's "Star" position in nickel defense situations. In 13 games, the Atlanta native had nine tackles, two pass breakups and two passes defended.
I don't know what was said, but let's just say it was profanity laced. He got his message across because receivers started to hold onto the football. Plus the fans gave their stamp of approval. I think the players didn't like hearing fans applauding Moorehead's rant.
I don't know what the columnist Dallas Jackson is thinking. He has Marcus Vick ranked third and Tyrod Taylor unranked.
Could have sworn that I saw Coles get 5-7 snaps yesterday, all within the first 15/20 minutes of the scrimmage, but apparently neither played a snap.
Haha, I think it is getting more. I swear it was 49 when I saw it.
Honestly, it's tough to blame coaches based on what a youn kid decides to do or how he pans out.
Some kids show up, realize they miss home and don't end up playing well. From what I heard, manning wants to be closer to home. So how is that Grays fault?
Other times, the kid peaked in high school, whiles others haven't. That's why you have kids like Kam.
Then, remember these are still kids. When you were in college, you can't tell me you went to every class, made every right decision, etc.
Keep in mind that they really righted the ship with Grimes and Lefty. Gray and Foster have the horses. Facyson, the Fullers, Kyshoen and Bonner will be a pretty darn good secondary. Offensively, there's really nowhere to go but up, considering how bad we were last year. That said, Loeffler will be an upgrade over O'CainSpring, and Grimes is a heck of an upgrade over that other guy who doesn't deserve to be mentioned by name here. So no, this season might not be another 10-win/BCS-bowl type season, but the future of the program is looking much better than it was in December.
Considering it's a scrimmage, I wouldn't put too much stock in stat lines.

The guy literally lost all credibility the second he said he was a UVA fan. I can't wait for our boys to prove the doubters wrong. And attain the #DecadeOfDominance
