Additional info: in base formation, it appears that if there is motion away from the rover, the free safety moves forward to the new strength and takes over the rover's assignment. The rover backs up to play free safety. The whip stays put but makes sure that he doesn't get sealed inside by the motion man. I am sure there is variety to these adjustments, but that is what I have seen so far. If I see any other adjustments, I will post them.

This is a terrific question and one I am still researching, because the film I have had a chance to review does not really give me a clear answer.

One pattern I have noticed does change the scheme significantly. When the whip linebacker is replaced by the nickel cornerback, the nickel goes aligns over the 3rd most dangerous receiver (primarily the primary slot receiver to the twins side.) The rover aligns over the tight end or the #4 receiver in the slot if there is not a tight end. When there is motion, the DB's do not cross the formation with the receiver. It appears everyone bumps over, but I need to watch more to confirm.

I know that in the 2009 Orange Bowl, if the whip was on the field, Stanford went against tendency. They lined up in 3-tight end sets, with two tight ends to the strength and one away. The tight end to the weak side ate JGW to pieces the entire game. The other linemen would block down and kick out the defensive end, and VT could not stop it.

So basically the matte version of our traditional helmet sticker. Not bad eh?

Traditional

What happens when you make the orange outline VT oversized...like the bronco on Boise St. helmets in our game in D.C.?

Would love to see the white "VT" highlighted in orange or something to make it pop. The old T-V logo is bad ass on the matte helmet. "Win" would be unorthodox, but I like it.

Don't get me wrong, my age has nothing to do with the uniform style, but you guys maybe onto something. I equate those uniforms to National Championship appearances and possible Heisman winners. It's hard not to want that time frame back.

That being said, I love the idea for the Boise uniform. Those really are sick. I always hoped for a maroon version of the white pro combats, which is basically what we are after.

This probably wasn't technically compliant, but I bought it out of the back of a dude's car in the Cassell lot one afternoon. As long as it doesn't become a big thing, I think we could probably get away with it pretty easily.

Yah, gotta say that I am mostly just doing these for shits and giggles. Never thought of actually putting them on a shirt. I will do a full silhouette with number only and one using a different centaur (non-likeness) as well later tonight. For those wanting a shirt, if people can figure out what's safe then I'll do that version in high resolution and you can print yourself.

I think if you were to ask the Compliance office then they would always lean towards NO, so would be good to ask someone in the know outside of the school as well to get an unbiased opinion. Obviously there have been shirts in past that have been in this neutral zone of compliance and not sure those were ever passed through the schools approval. For Chancellor, didn't they use a real picture of him?

You should try 144p! It's awesome!! But regardless, video never ever does Enter Sandman justice.

Oh man....I'm bouncing in my desk chair with chills....is it AUG31 yet?!

I dig the current LSU-style unis (as you called it). They look clean and classic. Adding an all maroon look for home games is great, but can we please, PLEASE never let this shit happen ever again?! PLEASE?!

PLEASE!

those are soo fondly remembered partially because of the big game nature in which they were always worn. i want #allmarooneverything back very badly, but i still want it to be special for big games

penn does it better because everyone that goes to the game is handed a white shirt when they walk into the stadium. for not doing that, weather permitting, we pull off the effect pretty well

i personally dont really want #allmarooneverything for every home game. i want it to be special, like in 2006 against clemson. away games absolutely all white. i get that a lot of the "older" fans like the mv7 era unis, dont think we need to go back to that though. I would personally would like a simple yet modern uniform. marron with either minimal orange striping or lettering. white numbers with orange outline. then marron numbers orange outline on the away. boise something like these boise. obv with maroon instead of black and orange/white instead of blue/white. then just a classic helmet

I hate to respond on my own thread, but the Orange and Maroon effects are abysmal. Not only do I barely think about it, the shirts are fuckin' cheesy and lame. We tried taking something that Penn State did much better than anyone and square pegged it as much as we could.

Also, does anyone think the new AD would let "Stick it In" happen again? I really miss that. :(

My one special uniform combo would be similar to the Military Appreciation Day wore last fall, and that should be the ONLY special combo. I also liked the black/orange uniform wore against Boise State (the game we should have won, grumble, grumble).

I am not a fan of Oregonizing Virginia Tech's uniforms or Planking uniforms like Maryland which makes them look like they were sponsored by Heinz.

Give me #allmarooneverything for home games, and away games, give me white jersey with maroon numbers, and white pants with maroon stripes, and be done with it.

Do away with the stupid color effect games. We are proud of our school colors, damn it, and quit whoring to Nike.
