The only way to know for sure would be to contact the VT Compliance Dept. Chances are they will tell you not to do it, but it's better to ask and get a no than not ask and screw Tone's eligibility. These shirts are AWESOME and I want to see them made, but with these compliance issues it's always better safe than sorry.

Tim Parker is a good guy, I've spoken with him before. Whoever ends up producing the shirts really needs to reach out to him to be safe.

If a student-athletes name or picture appears on commercial items (e.g., posters, playing cards, photographs, t-shirts) or is used to promote a commercial product without the student athletes knowledge or permission, the student-athlete and the institution are required to take steps to stop such activity in order to retain the student-athletes eligibility.

Because there is no official picture, name or logo, it may be okay. But since it's using his nickname, silhouette and he would have direct knowledge that such a shirt is being produced, I tend to doubt it (even though he's not making any money off of it).

Use of a student-athletes name, picture or appearance to support any charitable, educational, or non-profit promotional activities requires prior approval from the Virginia Tech Athletics Department. The authorized representative of the organization or event must complete a form that is filed with the Compliance Office.

Would this be considered to be using his appearance?

Not trying to be a party pooper or anything. I just want to bring this stuff up so Tone doesn't get screwed by the NCAA.
