You guys out there who are blinded by emotions give it a break! I am a fan of Logan and wish him well but, from where I was sitting Logan is still inconsistent, he locked in on his targets and does not go through his progressions. once in the huddle the play is called and that's his only focus. Two years as the starting Q.B and he hasn't improved much, give it a break and give Leal a shot. Please don't tell me they have mot instilled all of the plays and that's the reason. I think a Q.B competition would be great!

I'm actually not ok with that statement by him. I don't want a quarterback who can throw 2 pick sixes and another interception and say that he was happy with how he played. I want players who wants to be perfect, and anything less that perfection is unacceptable.

It was quite nice to see the players getting yelled at. Where I sat sobclose to the sidelines I saw Grimes chasing Gibson around screaming. I could tell a huge difference in their discipline.

Oh, and my dad asked Exum if the daycare was open and he said, laughing, "It's always open!"

Regarding Logan's confidence, watch the interview below.

I'm glad he's not dejected, seriously, I want him feeling good about himself, I just hope he can eliminate the errors from his game.

It's borderline criminal that, by virtue of having TV coverage, casual fans base their perception of draft classes on what ESPN says. I mean they have the consensus number one player in the class as their #4 prospect. They hype up the relationship he has with this Michigan coach even though Hand has said that Foster is his favorite DC. Their football recruiting services are an absolute joke.

I am somewhat nervous about Hand, but it's only because of Michigan.

I didn't get into the game until the second half, so I can't really comment on how Logan played yesterday. But at this point, I think we can all agree that if it weren't for Mel Kiper's high draft grade for Logan at the beginning of last year, we wouldn't even be fathoming him getting drafted in the first two days as a QB. I mean he completes less than 55% of his passes and has a 3:2 TD to INT ratio! His career at tech has mirrored Sean Glennon's, who is close to the most vilified player to ever play here. Of course I would love to seem him play well, but we need to start being more realistic with our expectations of him.

Receivers were open the whole day. The O-line gave plenty of time in pass protection. Logan's mechanics looked fine on almost all his throws. But Logan showed no ability to read a defense, and stared down his primary receiver on most plays. A QB with a $10 arm and a 50 cent head is what I took from that scrimmage.

it's funny that you titled this article "losing the spring game" because that's how it felt walking back to the car, like we had just lost a game. people were quietly chatting, some hopeful, some nasty complaining, but mostly just disappointed.

the d will have to carry the o for at least the first few games.

Having sat next to French during the entire game and seeing his disappointment, I can understand why some of you think French is being all gloom and doom.

However, I tried to tell French what I saw in the scrimmages were not what he saw during the spring game, and for some reason, Thomas was way, way off today.

My biggest issue is the red zone woe that continues to haunt the program. They ran with Trey Edmunds on three straight tries out of the full house, and could not punch it in. I thought Edmunds tried to get a bit cute, but French assured me it was due to the lack of seal. That led to Thomas trying to squeeze a fartsy throw to Stanford...

Yeah, Leal had the better day, but he bought time with his feet and found Malleck behind the back up defense, but let's be real, there's no quarterback controversy. I blame this on Norm Wood for tweeting that.

The most disappointing feature was the lack of offensive imposing their will on the back up defensive line! I mean, if they want to be the bully, then by God, be the bully! Instead, it was the back up defense being the bully.

Down vote me for saying this, I don't care, but I have already scaled back my expectation to beat Alabama based on what I saw in the scrimmage. Instead of continuing with progress, they appeared to get bogged down, and was like a jeep trying to get out of a mud hole up to the roll bar.

Logan has already had a season and a half worth of bad games. The only reason there isn't a QB controversy is because we didn't recruit the position for shit the past few seasons. If we had a younger, 4 star prospect waiting in the wings I'm sure the voices demanding a QB change would be much louder.

I also don't understand people claiming that his struggles are due to only a portion of the playbook being installed. If he looks lost out there now, how is tripling the amount of information he needs to know going to alleviate things?

im so pumped he may be awesome in or system. hes 200lbs going into school i cant imagine how big he could get after some time in our conditioning.

i remember people calling for tyrod to be pulled after the jmu loss and let logan start. maybe some more competition with leal would light a fire under him but i dont see leal realistically giving us a better chance to win. yes he was bad and i think he's clearly our best chance to be successful. i think with summer workouts and more time working in a new system will help him greatly. weve seen what he can do, im going to try and stay optimistic.
the spring game is a glorified scrimage. i wanted to see more emphasis on the run game. i felt like there was no emphasis on it and that got as frustrating as how crappy logan played

Somebody posted the speech clip from Miracle a while back, and after the spring game I'm seeing a bunch of parallels.

1. New coaches bringing a new philosophy (in his case toughness) as well as a new system, and the initial product is sloppy.

2. First big test and the good guys look a mess (in '80 team USA played the Russians in a test match before the Olympics and got smoked by like 10)

3. The staff are single-mindedly focused on beating a hulking team that's bigger, faster, and has been winning championships consistently in recent memory. Single-mindedly means damn what everyone else thinks - coaches might not have even wanted the scrimmage to go extremely well in order to get the fanbase hyped up about being better than Bama. More likely they are focused on bread and butter and where's our next growth area; and we always do better as the underdog, right?

Anyway, look.. Am I saying it's aliens?

Yes.. Yes I am.

I agree with Deathrow and some of the others: Logan has major problems and I'm long past holding up hope that he'll "fix" it with consistency or mechanics or some other change. He actually had a lot of these problems in his good year in 2011, but they were covered up by the freak game against Miami and with the help of Danny Coale and Jarrett Boykin.

Two more things:
1. Everyone keeps saying bringing Leal into the competition would break Logan's confidence. I say what confidence? I'm wondering if its the reverse--he isn't working quite hard enough because he doesn't think anyone is breathing down his neck. At the least I think Loeffler should make noises about how he is not afraid to consider Leal if Logan doesn't fix his current problems.

2. If I hear another coach say "One thing about Logan is, you only need to correct him once" I'll scream. Does this mean no coach has ever told him not to stare down the primary? No one has ever told him to soften up his short yardage throws? Because he makes those mistakes OVER AND OVER AND OVER.

3. Maybe I'm just cranky but I think we're destined for a very predictable and frustrating 8-4 season with Logan running the show. I honestly think our ceiling is higher with Mark Leal.

Last year we got 6 recruits and a cancelled spring game. This year we got 1 or 2 commits and a spring game. I Wouldn't worry at all about recruits landed, and what it means for the Hokies

Now recovering from my 2nd night at TOTS, to this post I say:
Yes. Considerably. We'll know when it's time to panic. Summer will make or break this team. Even then, Uva will still lose its 10th-consecutive Commonwealth Cup.
