Call me cynical, and it sucks for Holmes (granted he did STAB someone), but I honestly think being him off the team is a good thing. He was starting to show improvement, but I think Edmunds will be more than sufficient. Now the team can focus on getting two primary backs practice without this competition BS. No more splitting carries three ways. Shane now just has to chose between Trey and JC.

So I was reading the WaPo article from Mark Giannotto to get an update on the situation, and it says that the fight was around the "200 block of College Ave." That's right by Squire's, and of course TOTS. So that kind of confirms the stories you connected people had earlier. What actually caught my eye in the article were the comments. You can see all of them here, but the one that really shocked me was this:

What is it with these Hokie football players? It must be the poor character players the Beamer & Beamer & Co. recruit. Unbelievable. I know if I was a parent, I certainly wouldn't want my kid to play there. Clearly they are out of control.

There are other, similar comments, but none as overt. Is this really the general perception of VT? I didn't follow college football closely before I came here, but to me it's always seemed like Beamer runs a relatively tight ship. Yeah, Marcus is still getting arrested, but compared to a lot of other schools, I think we have a pretty good track record. Any thoughts? Is this what we have reaped from HCFB using the word "swag" and doing his dirty dancing?

Watching the film now. A quick preview.
1) So far, I have seen Logan come off his read one time. I am into the 2nd quarter.
2) Gibson, Shuman, and McLaughlin look good. Farris had one bad bust, and one other potential disaster where he recovered nicely. Miller has had two bad busts. The other screw ups in blocking were fullbacks and hBacks. Again, the film is young.

Maybe because they were two independent thoughts?

I was basically saying we don't have any good QB's. I think Logan, for all his potential, is a mediocre QB right now. Until the consistency he demonstrated from the second half of '11 returns, if at all, we're in a bad position at the QB spot. Leal probably isn't starting QB material, but it's hard to say that definitively when you give him a whole 8 attempts in the spring game.

Actually, Holmes made a strong push to be in consideration for a spot on the depth chart. As a matter of fact, I had on my artificial depth chart that Edmunds and Holmes were co-#1 on the depth chart because they both have had strong spring showing in spite of being hammered by 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th team defenses all spring long. That said, with Holmes' arrest, that pretty much puts Holmes in the doghouse and deeper on the depth chart which means he will have to earn his spot, IF he gets the charge plead down and restored to the team. That's an effing big IF, mind you.

All he needed was stomping on some guy, and he would've had a Marcus Vick hat trick.

Frankly, Joe, at this point, Tech might as well move on without Drew Harris. That sucks, but right now it's clear that Edmunds is the man until proven otherwise.

Think it's unique to Virginia Tech? It's not. Alabama had nine turnovers in its spring game yesterday, and Nick Saban was in midseason form with his displeasure.

I'm not sure of McCarron was facing his 3rd team defense, but it's also comforting to know it was a rough day in Tuscaloosa too.

damn. I left around 1, must've happened afterwards

Edmunds, Coleman, Harris?, others... we're counting on you now.

well looks like the edmunds/coleman rb duo i want may actually happen. ill be interested to see the full story and detail come out. this is unreal, im sorry but at no time when i went to tech did i even see an effin bar fight. i had more important things to worry about, like all the girls

He's 19 years old, what the hell was he doing getting into a bar fight (if that's what happened).
