You can only get so far with 2 and 3* star guys.
Antonio Freeman
Don Strock
Cornell Brown
Edit: I was actually wrong about Don Strock, he was a year late.
I would love to see Fisher beat out Bonner in 2013.
Been a Niners fan my whole life, but I'm OK with Tyrod getting his ring.
I know safety is a difficult position to step right into, given the "quarterbacking" role involved and the importance on truly being a leader back there, but I will be interested to see how Holland Fisher plays from the start of Summer Practice. I'm very curious to see if he forces the issue somewhat to make Bud/Torian explore shifting Kyshoen or Bonner back to corner with Fisher playing safety. Unlikely? Yes, but anything is possible, especially when you consider how often we've heard Fisher's ability to push for early playing time.
On the whole, the depth of this class makes me excited for the future.
I don't know if this has been brought up or not, but what other Hokies have won Superbowl rings?
I consider an honor to have seen him in action for much of my time as an undergrad.
I'd really like to see Carlis Parker make the transition to receiver. He's 6'4" but too skinny for a QB, and he's also really fast. Thats the prototype of an outstanding receiver IMO.
She was probably replying to an earlier comment. Still funny though.
With Exum's injury, I'd say Kendall is a good bet. I'm VERY excited to see Teller (his hs film looks awesome) and Fisher looks like he'll be a very good player. Time will tell, I guess, but this spring, fall, and summer should be exciting to watch.
Just being there on the field has to be an incredible experience although I'm sure its frustrating to be right there on the biggest stage and not get to play.
Harris and Edmunds will definitely help our running game... Our best back last year was 5'7" true freshman. Our line didn't provide holes either. I expect a much better ground game in 2013.
It's not that easy. ND does it. Ohio State does. Bama does under Saban. Michigan does. Most schools recruit either near their school or specific geographic areas (FL, TX, CA).
SEC schools can "go after the best" because most of the best players are in the south. Here's Florida's commit list for this year:
http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/school/_/id/57/cla...
A guy from VA, a guy from MI, and then lots of guys from FL and GA. Here's Georgia's recruits: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/school/_/id/61/cla...
The farthest north they go is NC. LSU's recruits: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/school/_/id/99/cla...
A little more spread out, but still mostly the deep south. The wider the net you cast, the harder it is to get prospects.
Well he did say that if we offered, he would probably commit. As many RBs as we have, it's nice to have some solid QBs too. It ups the competition and keeps the talent coming in. I'd love to see us signing 4-star recruits regularly. Granted stars are not a full measure of talent, potential, and production, it just shows that there are some desireable skills there. Without knowing how Loeffler, Grimes, and Moorehead will do, I personally would rather us sign higher rated guys on offense and lower on defense because I have complete faith in Torrian, Bud, Wiles, and Cornell to be able to turn those players into studs regardless of stars.
I know way too many b-more fans and I'm a skins fan so can't be too excited to see them win.
It is funny how far Tyrod has come. I still remember him crying on the field when my high school (Maury) beat Hampton in the playoffs his last year. Then him being a stud with Tech, now getting a Super Bowl ring. Nice to see people from that area doing something good.
Park named us his "leader" this morning (saw it on twitter behind a paywall, but it is confirmed on his 247 bio page here)
yeah .. coast to coast, with the exception of OL, is a BIG waste of resources (money and time). we're never going to land kids from Texas or Southern California. If we could seriously improve overall recruiting, there is reason that we should need to look past the East Coast, from top to bottom, and Big 10 country (mainly Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania).
If we can recruit these areas ::
Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, DMV, NJ, Ohio, Penn, Indiana, Michigan
we can get world-class players in every position
I guess I shouldnt have said serious question. I have seen Tyrod play a couple of times and he really is pretty nasty despite his size.
On potential, playing gym rules, with the way this team is shooting, it could be theoretically possible. But realistically, based on pure fundamentals and the fact that no basketball player would want to be shown up by someone not in their sport, I'd say no.
It is amazing how many people this team would have if the coaches knew how to use a redshirt year for something other than an injury. Guys like garland, finney-smith, and i'm sure i'm missing a couple would probably still be on the roster had they had that one year to adjust. chaney was just an unfortunate circumstance, the team doctors would not clear him because of his condition even though outside doctors cleared him.
if you have those three players you don't see the likes of marcus patrick or greg donlon on the roster which creates more competition in practice and a lot less of being content with mediocrity by the players.
I think this will be the largest spring scrimmages attended in a long time. Yes, there are plenty of question marks on the line, receivers, backfield, and how the scheme that Loeffler installs will work.
However, as the post mentioned, the cupboard is not exactly bare. I think with the new coaches, they are going to be anal about attention to details, especially from Grimey and Morehead (the latter since he coached under Jim Harbaugh), and I expect to see vast improvement across the board.
I think for someone like Magnus, he is probably going to make the most impact as a special team returner, like Ted Ginn, Jr. If he can pair up with JCC, maybe that will finally give Beamerball the explosion they need in speed to get decent returns.
While Logan might be entrenched, I envision he will be challenged by Leal, Motley, and other quarterbacks. I think the back-up competition is going to bear watching. I saw French's tweet last night that his film review of Hodge reveals he has a similar throwing motion of Kaepernick, which I'm not sure is a negative or something to bear in mind, but that tells me that the back up spot might be cemented as we believe.
I think the biggest disappointment was the regression of Michael Holmes. I honestly thought he was the best back in spring and summer camp, but unfortunately, his hesistation and the OL inability to blow defenders off the block might have hurt his progression.
I have more thoughts, but I need to get back to work.
Steven Moss. Maybe Coleman Thomas.
It will be interesting to see if Caleb and Stanford move ahead of Knowles and Asante.
I've seen a lot of our football players playing basketball at the gym, while they are athletic they have no fundamentals. It's just straight one-on-ones and they rarely pass the ball at all.

If Bonner had hands, he could have made a bigger difference in the second half of the season. But just like Exum had his troubles in the first half of the season and came back to be one of our strongest defensive players, Bonner made strides at the end of the season. The problem is that what we remember are the bonehead mistakes (like 2 missed INTs in the bowl game). IMO, Bonner is a liability at corner due to his coverage skills (or lack thereof). Keep him at safety where he can lay a hit and play the deep ball.
