If Whitfield (?) tells LT that Loeffler will help him, he'll stay. If he doesn't, he'll go.

He has a reputation as a shady recruiter. Some people (School Administration, Coaches, Parents) don't like his methods, plus there are rumors he has provided some academic assistance via questionable institutions for kids that may not qualify.

I have only been following the Hokies since I became a student, and a little Vick action (the good one), but unfortunately I've seen quite a few. Here are the ones I attended:
1. BC 07 (cold, wet, miserable)
2. Michgan in Sugar (their fans were atrocious)
3. Boise St (ugh)
4. Bama (revenge anyone?)
5. JMU (low because I didn't have many connections)
Bonus. FSU this year (gut-wrenching because we were so close)

Time will only tell if this hire works out or not. I think it is good to bring some fresh eyes to the offensive side of the ball, however the question for me is does Beamer keep his hands off the offense and let these guys do what we are paying them to do or does he and the "old guard" still get involved.

I know I could do a google search, but I'm on the run today. What's the downside to Trooper? As a Tennessee Hokie, I was excited to see his name pop up.

but... just to show how crazy NFL front offices can be... Christian Ponder (with numerous throwing elbow injuries and a half decent college career) was drafted early in the first round. Granted he has worked out to be a serviceable QB for the vikes I never would have thought he would have been a first round pick. Thomas could definitely go in the second round. Glennon and Barkely will likely go before him but if he has a strong combine and a team falls in love with his size and arm strength he could easily go much earlier than what his paperwork states.

Is a coaching thing. You have to get open to catch a pass.

To defend (or at least try to be optimistic about) Loeffler's numbers at Auburn; even for Malzahn that offense was terrible, so Loeffler obviously didn't inherit anything good. Honestly, I'm not expecting Loeffler to get us a consistently top 20, or top of the ACC offense. I just want it to be more reliable and help the defense stay off the field while putting up more points than the D allows.

I honestly believe that his decision will have a lot to do with the conversations he has had with Scot Loeffler. If he feels there is a decent chance for him to be one of the elite QB's in next year's draft, then it would definitely be worth holding out for the pay of a higher draft pick, and looking at Loeffler's pedigree as a QB coach I would say that is a possibility.

It also depends on the results of his draft packet. For all we know, they could have projected him for the 4th or 5th round (or worse). I highly doubt that he would be picked up in the second round, I would expect his ceiling is somewhere in the 3rd.

I also don't understand why the strength of the QB class in the draft really has that much to do with anything. Obviously these teams are doing their homework too, so if there aren't any good QB's remaining they will fill one of their other holes and wait until next year.

Knowing this guys attitude though I feel like he will want to come back and TRY end his career on a high note. I think his papers came back saying he would be a late 2nd to 3rd pick so he wanted to know what Beamer planned for OC this year. Looking at who Beamer has gone after I think he made the right choice for OC in Loeffler. Not only will he be able to help LT3 prepare more for the NFL but his philosophy fits the type of talent we bring into Blacksburg. Still though I have the feeling Logan is going. Even with what I mentioned above about him wanting to come back the notion that he will be brought into a team and paid millions to learn at the next level is to much to pass up now that he has his degree. Hope I am wrong.

I don't disagree with your points, but there are no tangible indications that he is a goner. Quite the contrary; there are no true indications either way (his Twitter has gone dark) and most "sources" & media believe he is sticking around. No one really knows.

Yes, he has plenty of reasons to leave, but also plenty of reasons to stay.

The one thing I like about Loeffler's play calling from what I noticed is he actually tries to create mismatches and attack them. Kyle Frazier was bad, real bad. Multiple times on film I've seen Loeffler had a good play called with a good match up but Frazier just missed. Think of one of O'cains better play calls from this year. FSU fourth down full back in the flat off of playaction wide open and Logan missed, just flat out missed. Frazier did that every other pass play it seems.
Anyways, Moorhead's receivers at Stanford blocked really well. They seem to run good routes. Stanfords routes aren't very difficult. They do some rubs and picks though which I never really saw our offense run. I think this was a good hire it's going to be a lot of the same o' same o' we're used to and that fits in with Frank's identity. I just hope the new coaches can get the most out of our players and help them develop into top notch football players.

One comment RE: Malzahn though. I don't think anyone can really question his resume, even with those 2011 rankings. When looking at that season within a larger framework, it is clearly an outlier. Malzahns' Total Offense ranking by year:

2007 (Tulsa OC) - 1
2008 (Tulsa OC) - 1
2009 (Auburn OC) - 16
2010 (Auburn OC) - 7
2011 (Auburn OC) - 100
2012 (Arkansas St HC) - 23

Personally, I feel the jury is still out on Loeffler because there is not enough data on him as an OC to make a good statistical assessment. His two offenses as an OC resulted in Total Offense rankings of 63 and 118. Perhaps down the road, those will become outliers, but for the time being I would say there is no way to extrapolate that data to predict his future success (or failure) with any real degree of certainty.

All indication is that he is a goner.

He has his degree. Weak QB draft class this year since most of the QB's decided to stay in school resulting in a stronger class next year. Learn a new offense and play Bama to open the season for zero dollars... learn a new offense with NFL coaches for lots of dollars? Stay in Blacksburg and risk injury because you are still being used as the focal point of our run game and never get drafted? Or, let a team pick you up in the second round with hopes you are a serviceable QB or at worst a second string TE.

We don't have Clemson or FSU on the schedule next year so it's not like there is a "revenge game" he can look forward to against his buddies E.J. or Tajh. He won his last game (ugly). No proven studs to throw to or hand the ball off to returning. And let's face it, he had one great season and one turd season, but he will be drafted this year because he is 6'6 with a strong arm. Every bubble and struggling NFL team is looking for the next Colin Kaepernick or Russell Wilson to save the day. The 2011 edition of LT3 fits that mold.

Between the rumors I have heard and pure common sense I don't see him staying.

I kind of hope he stays because he has experience playing in big games and frankly, I trust him more than 190 pound freshman or Leal with the football. Hopefully he loves Blacksburg, Old Hickory Burgers, the Coaches (new and old) and all the insane fans that have been refreshing their computers every three minutes this past week enough to come back.

In an official University press release... I wonder if there will be any other announcements at that time.

I used the creator at southparkstudios.com and got as close as I could

I wanted to photoshop Moorehead's face over Cartman, but I don't have time at work. High Five on the colors.

Like this?

Yeah, meeting David Wilson was pretty cool.
