Club 216 in da houuuuuseeeee!
Everyone is currently saying "Meh", but cautiously awaiting the ruling on the ACC v. U of Maryland lawsuit.
If Maryland pays >$50M, then everyone will be content to stick with what we're doing.
If Maryland pays ~$30M, then, well, a handful of schools might look elsewhere, but I'd expect the conference to stay put.
If Maryland pays $20M or less, then the sky will, in fact, fall, since it would show that the ACC really doesn't have the authority it thinks it does, and there's just that much money to be had elsewhere right now.
remember when the rumor was going around about fsu and the big xii and everybody thought the sky was falling? now maryland actually does leave and everybody is like, meh.
i say good riddance, i've never been treated as poorly by opposing fans as i have been by twerps, both at lane and byrd. fuck them
Logan Thomas. His measurables are off the charts.
At one point relatively late in the season, BC had something like 5 of the top 7 tacklers in the ACC.
The more plays your opponents run against you, the more tackles you're going to get. Simple math.
The players with the best statistics, especially linebacker, are usually the lone good player on a bad defense.
For example, the players with the most tackles in the NCAA FBS are:
1 Dan Molls Toledo (Toledo is 108th in total DEF)
2 Marvin Burdette UAB (86th)
3 Nick Clancy BC (102nd)
4 A.J. Johnson Tennessee (112th)
5 Eric Kendricks UCLA (73rd)
Defensive Heisman candidates are more about the eye test, less about statistics. Te'o has some pretty sweet highlight films out there...
Te'o is the best player on #1 team in the country. I think that's the gist of it.
Their numbers compare favorably, but from what I saw of Notre Dame, they don't attack the line of scrimmage with Te'o. Tyler was sent on blitz after blitz, and towards the line of scrimmage because he struggles in coverage. That's somewhat confirmed by the stats you posted. Tyler is a tackling machine, there's no doubt about that, but I think Te'o is a more complete player right now.
Many of the SEC folks argue their stud d-ends are better defenders than Te'o and I'd agree. The intangibles are what put him over the top: Notre Dame put Te'o on a national stage every week, he is an all around good kid, has a compelling story, and plays on a team in the championship game.
If I had a vote, it would have been cast for Optimus Klein.
Yeah I figure it will be a pretty full crowd. Was just playing off the comparisons to Duke.
Mike O'Cain had been mentioned RT @footballscoop At App State, sources tell us Scott Satterfield will be named head coach (likely tomorrow)β Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) December 13, 2012
Product of the hype. Whenever you watched a ND game you heard his name spoken by announcers at least 50 times, even when the offense was on the field.
The Heisman has become more about great players on really good teams instead of just great players. As for Te'o's stats, the 7 INT's is a MAJOR difference between the two. And, while Tyler is a great player, Te'o's leadership role on one of the country's best defenses helped his cause. That said, there were multiple guys that deserved to be there in his place.
When throwing these stats out there, I really don't understand how Tyler was left off of 1st team All-ACC.
It's because he wears a shiny golden helmet.
So basically this is just the beginning of a television market war between the conferences?
There was a big article in the local paper about the whole campus and growth issues. They are constrained on the current stadium site by roads, neighborhoods, and admin buildings. No other site on campus to build a new stadium. Odds of expanding the campus are very long due to surrounding neighborhoods and new imminent domain laws.
Season ticket holders have probably 60%+ of the tickets. Students about 20% or more. Opposing teams get a chance at maybe 10-15%. There is a waiting list for any tickets sold to the general public and those are usually the ones turned back in by the opposing teams. Not many Hokie fans, other than locals who also like ODU, would be able to get in.
I've been to a couple games. It is alright but nothing like Lane. Not sure how it compares with Duke. Tailgating opportunities are limited since much of the parking is in garages or areas (streets) where tailgating is not allowed.
Haha, no I don't really enjoy screen grabbing, thanks for enlightening me!
We know who the starting Mike is next season. A question that remains is who will be playing next to him.
Bud Foster said both James Gayle, Antone Exum still need to "grow" when asked about NFL draft. Called Jack Tyler the "face" of next yr's D.β Hokies Journal (@HokiesJournal) December 13, 2012
And if I was put on the spot and told I had to pick which player I thought would leave early, it'd be Exum. It's just a guess without any knowledge of the situation.
CB Antone Exum said right now he plans to come back for senior season. Will deal with final decision after the bowl. #Hokiesβ Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) December 13, 2012
Also, SpiderHokie, if you load a single tweet, you can use the embed function to save you the trouble of screen grabbing, unless you like screen grabbing, then carry on.
is this TSL?
Thought it was a very interesting read, well worth the time.
Intrigued me a bit as to how the University President supposedly has the final say in conference moves, but Loh (and I'd imagine a decent number of others out there) don't know the first thing about the finances of the Athletic Department.
I'm not saying everything was his fault. Marcus Davis was lazy, that hurt us a lot this year. But I think the most important thing was that it never looked like LT3 trusted his running backs. On those zone read plays he decided before the play if he was going to keep it, and 99.99% of the time he kept it, even if it was the completely wrong decision. I agree that he has potential and could get better, but he's gonna need to put in a lot of time and effort this offseason.
It was hyperbole referring to those who have not moved on to the post-adolescent world when life does not revolve around video games. FWIW
Why, oh why, is David Wang starting!
Password is Taco
Love the show and I'm not very creative...
Also saw another "The League" reference on there. Awesome.

If I had my choice I'd take a player like Jadeveon Clowney over Te'o any day of the week.
