We should give each back 1 down in the game vs Miami. Figure out which one is hot, and ride the hot hand.

Game plan:
Let's try some stretch plays with Scales, short yardage runs with Holmes, and leave JC on the sidelines after he runs for 183 yds.

With that Maroon Hyrdrochrome helmet to bring in the recruits.

Us misuse and under-utilize talent at our skill positions? Doesn't sounds familiar. Oh wait.

I'm a big fan of Corey. He has great tools and makes big plays when we need it. For the life of me, I don't know why we don't run the Corey Fuller slant multiple times a game, since it seems like its good for 12 yards minimum and he has taken it to the house multiple times now. And for as much as Logan has struggled, one of his biggest assets is his height that allows him to see routes over the middle like Tyrod never could. Seriously. Feed Corey.

JCC #1, Scales #2. JCC is not only the best back today, but he has much more upside than any of the others. That much is clear. As for #2, I think it's pretty clear that we don't have the great backup option that we'd like to have this year. I wish TG and MH the best, but I don't think either has shown that they deserve significant carries. Scales hasn't had enough carries to get a great appraisal, but he has impressed with the carries he's gotten, and gives us some things none of the others do. So give him a real chance, make him #2 and see how he does.

But I disagree a little on Corey. I wish we had him (like he is now) for 4....but I'm afraid this staff and scheme would poison him (or waste his talent) during that time. To counteract my own point, I have a lot of faith in Coach Sherman (mostly for his fire and heart)...hope he gets more say in the offense and personnel decisions.

That officiating crew got the call right eventually. F$U had a time out and used it to avoid the run off...but making two horrible calls in our game. Wow I know how the Packers fans feel.

Jc Coleman ..because he will be part of our futures and scales because he is the back with power ..gregory has shown flashes but he is injury prone, coughsup the ball, and is an upper classman..he has nothing that jc lacks..Holmes Will fall out of the rotation with Harris and edmunds in the mix next season

I am not quite at the point where I want Frank Beamer out. I think that the direction we are headed with some of the younger coaches is right. Bring in young coaching talent and let them see how to handle a program. I used to think that Bud was the way to go but he fits in the role he is in and I think other programs have seen this to when they reach out to him for vacancies.

If there was a ever a year to show alumni and fans you are serious about moving the prgram forward this is it. 8 or 9 wins will not cut it. There is enough talent on this team for it to be more successful but I feel the lack of execution comes back to the coaches.

No need to talk about play calling. The double pass play should have been the nail in the coffin.

Dyrell has looked much worse than MD7 for the past few weeks, especially against Clemson. I don't know what is up with #straightburner but he has just looked so average. He fails to run the correct routes (should have had 6 on the blown coverage but he cut his route inside and compounded the error with a lackluster effort to catch) he loafed on the interception that he watched the safety bring down, etc. I like Dyrell and I think he is a high character guy, but I really don't understand how a guy with all his tools who has been in the system so long fails to get separation on a regular basis. Yes, Davis loafs, but it seems like that is a common theme with our WRs. At the end of the day, he is still probably our most consistent threat. I really wish we had Corey from freshman year to now, he has a ton of upside but is just really raw, I think.

Coleman and Scales are the two backs they need to stick with. Scales is a consistent threat to break one off because of his hard-nosed running style but he's also a big back that has fought for yards.

Coleman is just a decent all-around back. He's played with what most of us will take as consistent effort this season and has the potential to be quite dynamic.

As far as Tony Gregory is concerned, every time he touches the ball I just expect him to put it on the ground. With the offensive troubles we're having it really shouldn't matter but nonetheless, you can't score if you don't have the ball.

All that being said, if the O'Cainspring brain-trust doesn't provide better opportunities to gain yards on the ground it doesn't make a rat's ass if I'm running the football because we won't score.

Apparently they weren't suspended for anything other than not administering the 10 second run-off at the end of the first half.

is priceless!

I should have had you pull up something from an old movie about throwing someone into a volcano for my post from earlier today.

Gotta go with Coleman! The question is who's the 2nd? Do we really need to split them though? Maybe the other 25% going to either Gregory or Scales. It seems clear that Scales is our guy to punch through on goal line or short yardage, but then again we have LT3 for that.

I've hated the big rotation since game one and glad they might finally narrow it down.

*lets face reality though, it's the O-line that isn't getting it done. Seeing JCC's yards per carry plummet is a direct reflection to the o-line not holding their own last week.

And I concur, the refereeing in that game was hideous...but I didn't think it was worse (or for that matter better...it was about as bad) as our game.

Sorry, link isn't working. I guess just copy and paste it or just go to ESPN's ACC blog.

Gregory cannot be a feature or dedicated number two back. He's already proven this season that his knee isn't up to the challenge.

The coaches obviously don't trust Scales for some reason, else he would have already been given a shot to be da man.

That leaves Coleman and Holmes. Coleman looked all world against Duke and then screwed the pooch against Clemson. Makes me wonder if the starter role is too "big" for him, if you catch my drift.

Holmes... I got nothing. I just think he's an alright kind of back. Probably the least complete starter we've had around this joint for a decade. Solid effort, low ceiling.

So I think if the coaches are serious (and who the eff knows anymore by this point) then we'll see Holmes and JCC given more shots to prove one of them is the starter - which both will continue to struggle to do - and Scales and The Man With Two First Names will slide into obscurity to finish out their VT careers.

But let's be honest, we aren't going to find a ground game this season.

So, the officials from the Florida State-Miami game received a suspension; however, after some of the most atrocious officiating I've seen in a long time in the Clemson-Virginia Tech game, no penalties were handed down by the ACC Office. I hope they're saving the suspension for the week after next when the FSU/UM crew comes back.

Great shot Joe.....honestly I am even more speechless as I see this sober. Makes one wonder what the hell went through the heads of these officials. This is not even close. A real damn shame.

I actually really liked the matte black helmets (from the Boise game that we will never speak of again.)

And I also prefer the old school logo to the square root of 1 logo.
If I could figure out how to embed images in a comment I would do so...
