You just made me feel so much better bro

but I love the current jerseys.
I just wish they'd stick with once basic concept - maroon jerseys at home, white on the road, maroon pants and helmets ALWAYS.

Logan hanging his head, yeah I'd be disappointed if that was the play call too. However, he might be coached not to run after a pick like that so he doesn't take a needless cheap shot and get injured. If we lose Logan, then we're really behind the 8-ball.

I think the real problem is blocking and not necessarily the number of backs, but regardless, Gregory has the tendency to fumble (at least in the past) and Holmes runs with no emotion. Coleman is small and shifty and has proven that he can be a playmaker. Scales is big and powerful and I think given the opportunity for more carries, can be a physically dominant threat.

What does everyone think of the rotation? I want to say Shane Beamer is rotating each back for an entire series (although, I'm not sure how consistent that is with reality) and going with the "hot hand". But why not, have them subbed in an out constantly to keep defenses on their toes and to have a fresh set of legs. Of course you'd have to avoid creating tendencies like always using a power back like Scales on third and short, so maybe that's too complicated for our OC/play-calling geniuses.

I remember the play you're talking about when he turned upfield (and another play where I think he was able to pick up three yards in a similar situation). I was impressed, and thought it showed maturity when he did that... for as good as David Wilson was, I don't know if he ever figured out he needed to occasionally do that instead of continuing to move laterally or reversing field and possibly losing a few more yards.

If 100 of us Key Players can go into a million details on how/why that play was retarded, then I'm sure Logan was thinking the same thing.

I think the head-hanging is a sign that even he knew it wasn't going to work. And when they called it, he thought in his head "This is def not going to work. I should prob just do xyz play instead. Naww, let's see what happens." Interception thrown. Logan puts his head down thinking "Damn, I def shoulda ran play xyz. I knew that bullsh*t wasn't going to work."

Total speculation obviously and just joking around a big, but I think it's safe to say he was just frustrated. Frustrated by the season, frustrated by his play, frustrated by that game, and then frustrated by the play/playcall.

The weight of all of our hopes falls on his shoulders. The exact same shoulders we should have trusted on 1st and 10, down two scores with 8 minutes left.

My theory on why this play was called:

Watching the referees steal their thunder with numerous botched calls drove O'Cainspring into desperation "what can we possibly do to prove that we are still the most incompetent people in the stadium" mode.

I also wonder if at the end of each game/season, Beamer sits down, thinks about Stiney and says "Well, at least there's no way this could get worse," only to be proven wrong time and time again.

I was at a Clemson game day party with a bunch of other Hokies. We were down 31-10 in the 4th quarter with the ball on offense and everyone in the room was feeling dejected. I said confidently, "This is where we're going to comeback and win." Right on cue we scored a quick touchdown to trim the lead to 31-17 and then our defense came out on the field fired up and forced a 3-and-out. We had the ball on offense again with plenty of time to score twice. There was about 9+ minutes on the clock at this point. I said, "OK we're going to score again quickly and get the ball back again." People in the room started to get excited. It felt like Logan was confident again, and we had all the momentum back.

Then.... BAM!

A punch in the gut. The worst play call at the particular time, to the player that I don't think should even see any game time (due to loafing).

At that point I got up from my seat, mumbled "I can't take this anymore" and poured a strong bourbon drink. I couldn't even watch the rest of the game.

Is how much he has matured this year. Earlier this year, you could tell he wasn't comfortable. He wasn't hitting holes, he would get there either too soon before the gap opened or after the gap had been read by the defense. Now, he's smarter. He sees his hole, makes his cut, and goes. One play from Saturday sticks out in my mind where JC was about to lose about 2 yards and launched himself into a hole smaller than he was to pick up a yard and a half. In a way, it means very little, but you could tell that he didn't want the negative yardage on his stats. He took every little bit he could and that's what you need from a back. JC is not the same guy he was at the beginning of the year. As said earlier, JC and Harris could/should be a nasty combo next year and hopefully the line will help them with that.

Statements like "competing for a NC is our only goal" just seem to miss who we are.

Yes, trophy case. It was a bad idea used to steal the momentum of one specific point in time. But look around.

A national title is not coming through that door.

But, I couldn't imagine it to start the year either. He is just there. He isn't fast, powerful or shifty. He doesn't do anything above average.

JCC is clearly my guy, but I can see the advantage for getting Gregory some touches if he gets the right plays. Same for Scales.

Holmes, Martin, Wang. Don't play those three anymore.

Be careful what you say on this site. People get offended when you talk like this.

But I agree with everything you said. There needs to be change from top down because it seems like we're ok with being good and yea we want a national championship, but then we lose and its like "Oh well. At least we'll get 10 wins this year." I have national championship hopes and our coaching staff says they do, but I'm not feeling it anymore.

I made similar remarks a few weeks ago and called for Beamer's head, because I don't think he will ever win us a NC as head coach and to move forward as a program, he needs to go. (I'll take coaching changes below him for now because I understand everybody's loyalty to him, but at the end of the day I think all that's going to do if postpone the inevitable.) Anyways, after I made those remarks, there were so many Key Players saying things like "we're spoiled" and this and that about 10 win seasons. I appreciate the 10 win seasons and all, I really do, and you can call me spoiled if you want but I'm tired of just getting 10 win seasons.

We've had so many 10 win seasons (and the ACC sucks so bad) that 10 win seasons and acc championship appearances/wins shouldn't be enough anymore. That shouldn't be our measuring stick anymore. Our measuring stick should be BCS wins at this point, and I don't understand anybody that disagrees. (and everybody please understand this 10 win streak would have ended years ago if we were in a real conference. I also don't understand anybody that disagrees with that.)

Success breeds two things, complacency or a desire for more success. All of you that cry I'm spoiled from 10 win seasons, you fall on the complacency side (and so do our coaches and administration). I'm on the desire for more side.

I think most of Hokie Nation is in denial about our true potential, with and without Beamer. I also think that those in denial now, will come around soon enough when they realize what I'm saying is true. It sucks and it's hard to come to this realization, but it's true.

Honestly i never liked that microchip thing either. I was skeptical at first about the blackout look but then I got the whole cadet connection. If we would have won that game we would have seen it more. I would love to see an all maroon with a two toned maroon matte finish helmet similar to the black one.

that is definitely one of the best options we have had.

Not a good sign at all, and pretty disappointing, that LT3 hung his head and didn't even chase after the pick was made. Sure, he probably wouldn't have caught up, but he wasn't on the opposite play side.

I thought having four tailbacks (much like having two quarterbacks -Glennon/Taylor, anyone... Anyone...) was juuuust right, I mean, am I right or am I right?!

Its gotta be Tgreg, he carries the ball like a loaf of bread and is fumble prone.

ultimately, I'd like to see JC and scales rotate into a more traditional speed/power third down combo

I feel like Holmes hesitates and doesn't hit the hole like he should. I would love to see Coleman and Gregory be the featured backs with Scales coming in for blocking, or short yardage situations.

Al Groh was only great with Bill Parcells as head coach. He was never successful without him. Should also be noted, Belichick was DC for superbowl year. The year after the superbowl, Al Groh was promoted to DC when Belichick moved onto HC of Cleveland. Al Groh was also DC when Parcells coached New England, had some success there. But he never was successful sans Parcells (and Belichick).
