thing with that is McShay is a card carrying Hokie hater. I'd be surprised if he ever said anything positive about the program.

Agree with everything said here, D looks like they may be "back", playing calling and officials sucked horribly, but what about the receivers? Dyrell slowed his route on the busted coverage and missed the ball. That would've been a huge gain, if not a touchdown. I think LT3's "regression" is simply him trying to do too much to make up for the lack of WR maturity. Coale and Boykin played every down regardless of their assignment (blocking, primary read, etc) Roberts and Davis only play if they think they are getting the ball. Hopefully with DJ back next year, he can teach these young WRs (Knowles, Caleb, Stanford, etc) to play the right way and LT3 can relax and do what he needs to do.
Hate to say it, but I think you are right about our special teams. They have been average to worse over the past 3-4 years. They pretty much cost us the Boise State game, last year's Sugar Bowl, and several others. They seem to fail in big games more than ever, and it makes me scratch my head why. Has everyone else caught up to us, or are we not setting as much emphasis on special teams play as in the past? We sure aren't getting many blocked kicks anymore, and other teams seem to have more big plays than we do. The Clemson punt that went off of Reeves was a major momentum shift on Saturday that cost us a TD if memory serves. Just missing the old days I guess...
“If you go back and look at every first play we ran this year, it’s probably been successful,” Stinespring said.
...followed by a list showing that most of them, in fact, were not successful...
And you know I'm a Jags fan too...sigh
While I don't think it made a difference in the game, the non fumble call was a disgrace. I can understand the official on the field with it all happening so fast, to get the call wrong, but for the replay both to not clearly see that was a fumble is beyond me. Why even have replay officials anymore. Let's just have the fans vote live at home via cell phones on the correct rulings.
Al Groh was a great coordinator for the Giants and Jets in the late 80's and mid 90's under Bill Parcells. Hell, he was Parcell's "Head Lieutenant" (exact words) even ahead of Belicheck (spelling?). He led both defenses to top five finishes on multiple occasions. As a Jet fan, I have no problem saying Groh was a GREAT DC, just a terrible head coach and even when he first took the UVA job our fanbase was somewhat happy to see him go, as were the players for the most part.
And maybe someone can send it to the ACC offices to let them know how poorly that crew called the game on Saturday. That is not to say the crew actually "cost" us the game. We shot ourselves in the foot plenty of times with some moronic playcalling; however, something needs to be done about the ACC crews and their truly poor officiating as of late. If they're not careful then the ACC refs will get the same reputation as Pac 12 crews.
This article could have been from 2008.
First season they haven't looked like complete shit in nearly a decade aside from the 1 huge turnaround year.
Saw this and wanted to share it:

Apparently there is nothing wrong with our play calling people just need to make "Plays when their number is called"
Now that is a wide reciever pass play..course the down field man dropped a catchable ball
UVA 10 Wake 16 lulva
This was a "We can call plays as creative as Chad Morris" play. I really think the Clemson coaches have gotten under all our coaches skin.
I believed vtcaceclosed was duped by his source quoted in this piece. I was in Brew Do the same night. I saw the player he quotes in this piece about Coach Newsome, Gibson and Arkema The player that vtcaceclosed is referring to is a former player that, according to my sources, did not have the ability to play football at the D1 level. He had many run-ins with the OL players, including Arkema. He is also a good friend of Gibson. Hardly a credible source unless you are gullible.
Gibson is a good player and will no doubt get a chance to play at tackle. I've been told he was moved from guard to tackle this year just so he will get a chance to play at that position. I've heard that his technique (he does not get low enough when he blocks-- which is needed to play guard) is better suited at tackle. He has played well at tackle this year when he got into the Bowling Green game. He also has done a good job playing on special teams this year. Gibson and Arkema went head to head last year and Arkema won the competition. That fact was well documented on Beamerball.com--if anyone took the time to check. Arkema won the award last spring for putting the Team First--that should tell you what the team and coaches think of his attitude. Any current or former player that bad mouths another player is, in my opinion: (a) not a hokie; (b) not a credible source and (c) not worth quoting.
Another extremely frustrating team if you're a fan.

Turrible.
Or Vick. Or Tyrod.
Dude I was asking the same thing yesterday while watching the game! It seems like it always sucks. Usually the best we see is like 7yds from it. The risk vs reward just isn't there and seems to just back us up or waste a down.
Love the picture... Just hate the subject matter. :-/
I didn't see him on tv so thought I'd bring it up.
He's usually the "nice guy" but sometimes you need to spike the headset and rip someone up.
Is this only an ACC thing??
Just absurd. That ref could've watched the tv broadcast on his cel phone and gotten a better view of the play.

I was saying that the whole game, D is playing their hearts out, O and special teams were letting them down.
