VT will be lucky to not lose 3 in a row to FSU, Miami, and Clemson. The next couple of weeks will tell whether VT is back on track or still struggling.
Could you make the # of new comments a link again? It was nice to just be able to click that and have the link take you directly to the new comments, especially on longer threads like the recruiting ones.
There's a new big red button on the left sidebar, and the page itself as been updated. Unread posts are highlighted in red, new comment counts are bold red. Let me know if you like/dislike it, or have any suggestions.
Haven't even noticed the "What's New" until I read this post. Now that is all I use.
All Kam Chancellor knows is loud home stadiums. LANE Stadium to centuryLink.
Also, I was at the Patriots ravens game last night! #goPATS #tuckermissed. They're pretty loud in M&T too.
they are really leaving the middle wide open (with a LB spying the QB) and collapsing the pocket from the edges with their rush. We'll have to bank on the fact that our Becton and Painter (who have been the bright spot for our line thus far) can hold up. Also, leaving the middle of the field wide open is one thing to do with Mike Glennon, but dangerous to do with Logan, imo. Even with a LB spy, Logan can still gash them, I think. The fact that they aren't sending a ton of extra men makes me feel a little better, if anything, just because of how shaky our guys have been picking up stunts, etc. Logan will have to really be on, though, to beat all of their guys they drop into coverage.
And one guy was making pretty much all of the plays in those examples. That's a good defensive scheme and I agree that we might be exploited by it.
They play a lot of new opponents, which makes coaching/prepping hard. They also are at a major travel disadvantage when playing on the road (but a major advantage at home) due to the long distances between WVU and the Big12 schools. They do get KState, TCU and Oklahoma at home and travel to Texas, TTech, and OKState. It's not out the realm of possibilities, but I don't think they run it.
Oregon, maybe they do run it. USC is not as a good as we thought and get Stanford at home. It's just too early to tell. The Civil War could be their downfall; Oregon State looks pretty good.
I think FSU has the best chance to run it besides Alabama. I'd actually be happy if FSU made the championship, just to get the ACC haters off our back. Then again, if they get blown out in BCSCG, there goes the terrible ACC again. #goACC

Hell yeah I went 0'fer. Quite the accomplishment I'd say.
we should be good. I can't see Miami beating FSU, I'm buying the hype. That means we just have to beat Miami and lose no more than 2 ACC games (Clemson, FSU) and we'll take the Coastal.
"...A visit to young-but-getting-better-every-week Miami Oct. 20 and a Thursday-night visit to Virginia Tech Nov. 8 are the only games that should remotely challenge the Seminoles between now and the regular-season finale."
I'm mad that I can't get but so mad at that statement. We have a lot of work to do between now and then.
Like he said in his post, it's nothing particularly savvy, it's basic football, but serves as a really good compliment to the zone series. When I rewatched the Pitt-Cincy film before we played Pitt, I chalked it up as a zone read, but noted it was weird the H-back / TE blocked the option man. My misunderstanding was half the reason why I linked to it, the other half is because he did a very good job of breaking it down.
If my memory serves me, we ran this play a couple of times during August practice, but have not shown it one bit during the fall.
We're going to pull the TE and kick-out block. Doesn't everyone do that?
Oregon and West Virginia will likely run the table in their conferences, and score a metric shit ton of style points doing it. K-State and Stanford will be solid, and already have big time wins. Florida State's strength of schedule alone will keep them on the outside. And let's not forget Notre Dame. They have two major wins so far, and if that keeps up, the fan boys that run the AP poll will continue to move them up, while the ESPN blowhards continue to filate them on television.
I am a bit worried after reading about their 'Joker Package' for 3rd and long. I dont think our O will be able to block well enough for it and could have a very low 3rd down conversion rate.
How on earth did LSU get a 1st place vote???
To be more accurate: it's just a matter of how good our secondary can show up for the rest of the season. Those guys are scaring me every time I see see the QB look downfield. If they can step up from here on our season will end a heck of a lot better.
Obviously the best case scenario is Tech wins every ACC game, but I think at this point it is more likely that we lose to both FSU and Clemson than split which I think most of us expected to do coming into the season.
Tiebreaker rules are here: http://www.theacc.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/082105aad.html (I'm assuming these will end up coming into play).
What works in our favor is the first two tiebreakers are head-to-head and divisional records, so as long as we win our divisional games (which we should be favored to do), everything should work itself out unless Miami goes 7-1 in ACC play with their only loss to Tech and we lose to FSU and Clemson.
So I guess right now we're rooting for Miami to drop another ACC game, which they probably will.
4-2 this week....maybe I'll improve and the Hokies will too.
I think the key is they are going to force Munchie to beat them through the air and limit the entire run game. That gameplan worked well last year, it's just a matter of how good our secondary can show up for this game. If they continue to play like they have thus far in the season, it could be rough. But if they come out at the top of their game, we should win this one.
Any Hoo loss is a wonderful thing.
that was a tough one to watch. It might have been the most boring blowout I've ever seen. It also didn't help watching FSU and Clemson later that night and thinking of what's to come if we do not get more explosive. Sound play should win us the Coastal, but won't cut it for the ACCCG if we make it.
Throwing in OOC games against ND and USF, they could lose their final 8. Eight!
v. NCSU
ND in Chicago
v. UNC
v. FSU
v. VT
@ uva
v. USF
@ Duke
Okay, losing to Duke may be a bit much but I look at that list and see a 4-4 ACC season.

"...Arkema fails to block..." is everything you need to say. I hope he comes around and improves QUICKLY, but right now the kid is doing his best impression of a human turn-style. His hand work is nonexistent, his feet are slow, and I can't even begin to gauge his flexibility because he's spent the last two games watching DTs and LBs run right by him.
All I can say is this, having a banged up Wang on the sidelines is doing us no good. I mean, and injured Wang is probably the worst thing for this team right now because without our Wang in there it's simply impossible to penetrate.
Alright, I'll stop with the Wang jokes.
As always, fantastic analysis French!
