Pegues was about as useful as the fullback in Dooley's off-tackle-for-three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust offense of the early 80's
based on size alone.
how about Ray Rice??
Jeez, I hope he is better than Imoh. You are shooting low with that. Imoh was the worst regular starting running back the Hokies have had not named Lamont Pegues since 1993.
For those of you who don't remember Pegues, be glad you don't. If David Wilson made running to the sideline an art form, Pegues was the Picasso of the two yard and out of bounds toss sweep.
The play he steals the ball away from Roscoe Parrish and Bill Roth's classic play-by-play re-enactment where he says "give it to me Roscoe, give it to me".
I think JC cleared up any notion that he will be redshirting this fall
You can overdose on rankings here:
Thanks. Looks like our kickers entered a weight lifting competition or something. Has anyone else noticed that several of our incoming freshmen measured an inch shorter than before? I thought that was strange, and disapointing. J.C. grew an inch though!
hidden stories in these numbers. Acree did lose a lot of weight his first year. With a stud like him the muscle/strength gains would not be as dramatic since he already possessed significant mass, but the conditioning might have been. The body can only do so much at a time...but with his new svelte physique he could focus on new muscle gains the past few years. I haven't seen him, just saying its possible when you have a guru guiding you like Gentry and a genetically gifted individual like Acree..
But it's worth noting that Wang came in a slab also at 310lbs and benching 390 as a true freshman. Genes? check: The Wang brothers' parents were Chinese Olympians in 1984. The bulk he lost (and did NOT regain) did nothing for his leverage or strength, which I will take anyday over being anchored by a few extra pounds.
For this reason I also feel good about Luther Maddy too, especially given all the extra conditioning he had from playing last year. My gut tells me he made great body comp changes despite not moving the needle. These young studs can't go through all they go through without something happening at the molecular level unless they completely lack work ethic, and I sincerely doubt Luther lacks work ethic. If he ain't gaining or losing then he's swapping.
Told he looks "cut up" and "athletic", if he's healed up, smaller Bruce is going to be flying around the field.
with that at all....just saying that it might be harder to pick up the idiosyncrasies of our defense more than the offense. I'm looking forward to TE moving to backer too.
it never ceases to amaze me how many people I see around town in VT gear, and how many stores have VT stuff for sale. I don't recall seeing anything in orange and blue in bburg! Not sure you'd really attract much attention in maroon and orange around here!
There are just way too many plays to read through all of them, and the ones I did brought me chills so I can only imagine what this video will do for me.
- Blocked punt against Miami in 2009 and/or the sack on Jacory Harris that forced a fumble
- Fuller's TD return off blocked punt against WVU
- Love the idea of the 5-star commits! Should def include that
- LT's first completion to Danny Coale on 3rd & 15 (I believe)
I honestly can't come up with anything... Looks like I know what I'm doing for the rest of my day at work.. Man this video is gonna be amazing.
turned into Imoh over the off-season...that is awesome. The RB position battle just heated up a notch.
How about I film myself walking around C'ville in full Hokie gear and nut-tapping the ascot wearers all over campus. I'll get a shot or two by the rotunda, one on the old lawn, one on frat row, etc.
I am sure I can get you a minute of good footage
;)
Thanks French, I've always wondered what you meant when you talked about Robber and 4-4 G coverage. I'll definately be watching for these when the Hokies play this season.
Man, that bowl was awesome. Witnessing the growth of the program as an undergrad during those years really adds to my enojoyment of every subsequent season.
MV2's flip-off to the WVU stands?
Much appreciated, although I am 100% behind Edmunds moving back to defense. If both backer and running back were immediate need positions, I can assure you he would be at backer. As you know by past reading, I am absolutely convinced that he will be an all-time Hokie linebacker, up there with Del Ricco, Adibi, and Hall.
Does anyone else notice that the Hokies corner is bigger than all 3 whips, or is that just me? Why can't Ronnie VanDyke play rover and whip?
I can see why the coaches are looking at trying Edmunds at RB first.....the defensive side of the ball has changed a lot and grown immensely intricate since my playing days where we lined up and the coach just said sic' em!
Thanks for the fantastic analysis!
I saw Nick Acree a few weeks ago at D2. He was bigger than I remembered him being. So I hope it's muscle.
Where are the specialists? I want to see if our new long snapper put on any weight.
I think Exum will be fine running with guys. His problem in coverage in the past is that he would run with guys fine, then not be able to make a play on the football (see the last Michigan touchdown.) He has had major trouble finding the ball despite being in perfect position, and the extra weight isn't going to help that.
I am guessing that they are going to try to play Exum like Jimmy Williams, where they would play man on the boundary and then roll their zone to the field (which gave Brock Berlin fits.) If that happens, expect teams to go deep repeatedly on Exum, especially Clemson with Watkins. Pass rush is such a huge key to protect the secondary this year. They must get to the QB with the front 4.
Do I remember correctly that Nick lost a lot of weight when he came in? Did he lose bad weight and put on good weight? I remember him just being a monster walking around D2.

i was wondering the same thing. if he can play whip, he can sure as hell play rover .. and i wonder if the cb depth becomes an issue if rvd moves back to rover to free up bonner or jarrett to play corner?
