JGW is certainly in the running. We don't live in a perfect world. RVD lacks experience, Tweedy doesn't seem to be as heady, JGW isn't as athletic. This is still a 3 man race as practices get underway. There are some interesting quotes in that Post article, but keep in mind its slant. Newspapers want hits, and they've certainly gotten them with this one.

the first UVA basketball season ticket ad on TV....this is usually aired just after they realize that they aren't in contention for the ACCCG....which incidentally is somewhere around the first of October. It's a wonderful indicator of their giving up on the football season.
In 2011 8 teams that were in the USA Today preseason polls were not in the final rankings...that sounds good enough to take these semi-seriously.

Pretty damn useless.
One entering sanctions, one exiting sanctions. One loses star RB Redd, one gains star RB Redd. One was able to dominate the PAC-12 in the latter half of 2011, one faltered in the latter half of 2012. These are the two story lines I'll be following, although I probably will feel like throwing up by the end of the season with so much PSU coverage.

They have no basis in reality. Their only purpose is to hype early season games for TV ratings, i.e. battles between "ranked" teams. They also set up conflicts with cahnging teams rankings if they win close games to "lesser" opponents. Who is to say they are lesser opponents? I think the polls should wait for at least 5 weeks.
Craft averaged 12.3 points and 3.0 assists per game as a freshman while shooting 82 percent from the free throw line and 33 percent from 3-point range.
Fleming coach Mickey Hardy said Hokies coaching staff made the offer after Craft participated in a camp at Tech earlier this summer.

i vividly remember the Flowers hit on weatherford. weatherford CLEARLY fumbled as shown in the replays, but he was ruled down.

Washington returns most of it's offense, and they held their own (offensively) against Baylor in the now legendary Alamo Bowl. You'd have to think that the defense got A LITTLE better, right? But after watching most of U-Dub's games last year, I'm buying the hype for Keith Price. They'll win one game they shouldn't in the PAC12 and should be ranked by the end of the year.
I really doubt VT takes any of their players, because I just don't think Beamer would want to infringe on that. But if they did, it would be better to wait a season so they only count once against the scholarship total in 2013. VT could really use some Offensive Tackles for 2013, so... Donovan Smith??
if CU and FSU were undefeated, but that's not possible since they play each other before each one play VT.
Michigan is ranked higher due to how the teams are perceived. Besides VT and UM fans, no one actually, especially coaches, actually remembers the gameplay. Due to inundation of the media, this is what everyone actually remembers:
1. VT did not deserve to be in the sugarbowl (Herbstreit rant, etc.)
2. VT could not sell out it's allotment and could not fill up the stadium.
3. The final outcome/score.
Need to have at least 2-3 old school (early beamer era) highlights in this.
Also, consider "the kick" vs NC State in the 198whatever Peach Bowl.
A Bruce Smith highlight would be cool.
Maybe you could do a minute full of commitment videos (Kendall Fuller, Tyrod, Kevin Jones, Corey Marshall, Cornell Brown, etc)
It is a long season and many things will happen.
I am ok with VT's #20 ranking though I honestly thought we would be #15 or #16. Here's a bad joke- FSU and Michigan in the top 10. Clearly the coaches have jumped on board the "FSU Hype Machine" bandwagon, just like the last two years.

I don't know about you guys, but this really excites me. I know we have two veteran seniors that each bring their own assets and experience to the table, and you always like to see guys that have worked hard for so long be paid off with some serious playing time their last year, but the prospect of Vandyke beating them out as a Redshirt Freshman really excites me. Guys, we could have the same guy playing arguably the most important position in our defense for four years!! That's huge. Would be interested to hear what other more learned Hokies think though...
