..... and still probably have another 20 views in me before the day ends. Great job! Wouldn't be mad at all if you, or anyone else, decided to make another one

His decisiveness between the tackles and burst could go a long way towards him seeing the field in 2012. I know one should never make too much of high school film, but he had too many plays where I just shook my head and said, "wow, how'd he break off that one?"

I'm not sure how I simulated voter bias (nor was that my intent). I was simply wondering if I could use Google Prediction to rank college teams. Also, the "features" I'm using are mostly performance traits (points scored, points allowed, yards per game, penalty yards, turnover margin, etc), so it should be a pretty unbiased model.

Also, the rankings I attached are purely based on the 2011 season (I did not intend them to have anything to do with 2012), and the AP & Coaches poll rankings in the spreadsheet are from the final polls after last season.

Big fan of simulations, and I could totally geek out on this. It occurred to me that perhaps you simulated voter bias...not sure if that was your intent or not.

I bet there is a goldilocks zone where the accuracy of predicting pre-season polls is highest...you entered in 8 seasons, I would be curious as to accuracy as a function of seasons entered. That goldilocks number would correspond to the collective memory of voters, and then maybe we would see some outliers like Houston disappear.

Anyway, cool stuff!

at a minimum, it appears that he is going to get some significant reps ... i don't think that he will start from day 1 though. he has yet to prove himself in a game. he'll get reps and if he ends up being as good as advertised (and all-round better than tweedy and jgw), possibly starting sometime into the season.

and i'll be surprised if RVD will win starting dibs before the season starts. he'll get reps in cleanup but i think that tweedy will start. he's healthy, g-w is still very iffy regarding health. too bad JGW already shirted. seems like a medical redshirt for '12 would be a possibility (with a little creativity) and we'd still have a good 2-deep. but he and tweedy are both seniors..neither likely to ever have a chance to play on sundays (not JGW anyhow)....but....if RVD gets plenty of reps, i could see him starting down the stretch.

West End the first weekend back at school. There were always two top 25 teams playing on the big TV (there are probably more big TVs now), students were buzzing, football season was back. I thought the same thing each year, one of those teams would lose, and Tech was going to move up in the rankings.

1. FSU. Back? Maybe?
2. Will Taj Boyd get better or plateau? Weight was a major issue for him last year, and he came into camp at 220.
3. How quickly is it going to take the Buckeyes to install Urban's system? I think they get another NC before Braxton Miller graduates. (Yes, I understand that is a VERY small timetable.)
4. Derek Dooley's pants.
5. How will Penn State respond? New coaching staff, plus 9 (and counting) transfers out of the program.
6. How well will the Cousins place in the BIGXII? I think they have a legit chance to win the conference, although they'll have to get past OU. Similarly, how will TCU perform with a full BCS-conference schedule?
7. RUTGERS. If they're ever going to win the Big (L)East, this is the year. We'll know if new HC Kyle Flood has figured out their QB situation by September 22, when the Scarlet Knights go to Fayetteville.
8. Can U-Dub continue it's upward trend under Steve Sarkesian? Keith Price should be a house-hold name by October.
9. Auburn. Can they find a way to keep up with LSU and Bamer in the West? Who is going to help take the pressure off Onterio McCaleb in the running game? More importantly, will I be abe to get any PhD work done during the fall? PAAAAAWWWWLLLLLL, WILL I GET TO SEE TOOMER'S GET ROLLLLLLED? (Immahangupandlissen)
10. MARTIN SCALES WINNING THE HEISMAN. DUH.

I can't disagree that newspapers want hits, it's how they make make money. However, Giannotto has a good history with reporting the news as it comes, and if he was trying to slant a story for traffic Friday morning at 10:00 AM is one of the worst times to publish. From all the web analytics and social media analysis I've looked at, Monday or Tuesday from 1:00 - 2:00 PM are much better times. He spoke with Foster, so not only does he have quotes, but he has the benefit of the tone of the conversation. I'm going to take him at his word that Whip is a two man race.

I've always argued, and did so again in the post, that Whip is a thinking mans position. However, there still needs to be a football player on the field. Logically, the Lisfranc sprain was probably a bigger setback than anyone though it'd be. Also, Tweedy and RVD had phenomenal springs, while G-W was relegated to non-contact work. In particular, Tweedy might of demonstrated he understood the position well enough to get on the field.

I'd be shocked if all three don't see the field.

NO TWEEDY, IT'S WHIP!!!!!!!!

Maybe a better person than player and that is saying alot in my opinion...

as I truly believe 2013 will be VT's best defense of all time. If RVD wins the starting position in 2012, it is possible all 11 positions return players with over 10 starts for 2013. Top 5 defense in 2012. Top VT defense of all time in 2013.

He is probably my favorite Hokie to ever don the uniform. Such a class act.
