thomas can easily move up this list, but how far?

randall was very good for 1.5 seasons, very so-so for 1.5 seasons. great leader but he doesn't have near the tools lt has.

druck was a hoss, but lt can pass him this yr. he'd need 3 yrs of starting to get above tyrod.

deshazo gets a lil extra for playing when the talent level was down and 1 year of tranquill as his oc.

marcus had more talent, more talent around him but was a shitty leader and crumbled under pressure.

glennon was a square peg in a round hole offense and clark was limited and also injured a lot.

no comment on noel.

the scene: last year in atl

jeremiah: haha! stopped you for a loss!

logan: you may have stopped me, but i wont go down as easy as you may like

jeremiah: punching you in the head!

logan: its cool bro, you're frustrated and i understand that, its best to just move forward in mutual admiration

jeremiah: you're a good dude logan

logan (to himself): SOON

As someone who started at Tech in fall '06, I can't speak about the majority of the quarterbacks on this list. Up to that point, I hadn't followed VT sports so my knowledge of prior years is woeful. That being said, I do have a couple of things to add to the discussion.

The years that Glennon was in the fold, I always felt he was given a raw deal. Other than Duane Brown, I couldn't name a single offensive lineman from those teams... I could be wrong and my football knowledge has definitely improved since those first few years, but I never felt we had the type of o-line to allow Glennon much success. That was one of the reasons Tyrod's redshirt was burned in '07 right? Since the coaches felt someone more mobile would give us a better chance to win games? And let's not forget, if not for a few huge plays Tyrod made those years with Glennon, his play was less than stellar. I was proud of the player he became, since he improved by leaps and bounds once he was the full-time starter.

But those first two years? I can't remember how many times I watched Tyrod pass up open receivers to scramble to the sideline and take a no gain. Extremely frustrating... especially given the fans vitriol for Glennon. One mistake was all it took for him to be booed, but because Tyrod was the future he was hardly criticized by the people in the stands.

But really, that always reinforced to me that some people have no idea what they're talking about. Like I said, I was extremely happy that Tyrod put in the work and became a great qb, and some of my best football memories come from his last two years. Especially the Nebraska game and the absolute thrashing we put on Miami in the rain... that was even sweeter considering how ESPN was gushing about The U being back. Suckers!

Thank you for the credit. FrankCainStine's Monster works for me. Or "The Monster" for short.

The thing about Marcus' arm strength/accuracy was not that it was never good (in high school he was probably the better 'passer' than his brother), but he just never got better. He never improved over his 3 years and then just relied on the talent/athleticism to get him through.

I disagree so much on Marcus Vick's accuracy and arm strength. Both were tremendously overrated, especially given the quality of players he had to throw the ball to. Marcus reinforced a culture of talent over precision, and it lowered the quality of play of others on the offense, especially the route running of the receivers. In the Miami game, guys couldn't get open and Vick's inability to do anything within the rhythm of the offense killed any chance for them to beat a completely beatable Miami squad.

Great read but having been a freshman for DeShazo's last season he's got to be higher on the list, ahead of Glennon, Marcus and possibly Thomas (at this point). For Glennon, let's not discount the number of fumbles he left on carpet EVERY TIME he was tackled. And I think Marcus should get a negative score for his "legacy" given that I still have to put up with Marcus Vick jabs from uva donkeys.

DeShazo was the man on campus when VT football was barely a hobby and started the 1994 season as heisman darkhorse. He had secondary talent back when the Big East was somewhat legit with WVU, Syracuse, Miami and Pitt had nvfl talent. Also, you can't discount that he had the best parking spot in Blacksburg with his shiny Jeep Cherokee always parked right next to Arnolds (look that one up kids) Wed - Sat nights.

Last comment - Ike Whitaker + Marcus Vick combined couldn't hold a candle to Druck in the substance abuse tolerance test - legendary downtown icon who kept the party rolling until dawn throughout the week, including during the season. Always fun to bump into the starting qb in Hunters Ridge at 4 AM Thursday night before the homecoming game.

2007 was my senior year and i remember almost all of my friends could not stand glennon, i remember chants of tyrod taylor! from all across the north endzone after glennon threw a pick against ecu, i think it was his first pass of the season actually...

makes Glennon better than 9. Going 18/27 174 yds and 3 TDS (1 INT) is not stellar, but a huge win with TT injured. Glennon was terrible, but I respect him for that win.

He started 4 games in his career and was 3-1. He started and won the second game in 1999 after Mike Vick was injured in the opener. If he didn't step up in that game then no undefeated season.

His lone loss was at #3 Miami in 2000 where he had a passer rating of 132.8. He did have a pick six to Ed Reed. That Miami team also had Jeremy Shockey and Santana Moss and a good QB in Ken Dorsey.

He played in 23 games overall and had some decent stats.

He was actually in the NFL for a little while. I believe he was on the Packers scout team.

Not bad for being in the shadow of MV.

For weeks I thought the 'key shaking fist' avatar guy was just the most prolific commenter of all time... Now that I notice that 'he' is arguing with 'himself', I slow down and read some handles...
And realize that it just must be the default avatar given out these days. Which makes sense. If anyone else feels like admitting that this happened to them too, I would really appreciate it. But I don't blame them if they don't. I feel pretty dumb...

Until Attochu realizes that LT3 was merely a snake in the grass at ACC Media Days. 41 days until the left shoulder drops like Thor's hammer.
41 days, Attochu.

Though if you want to put him 8th ahead of Marcus since Glennon was reliable and not a clown/knucklehead, I can't argue with that.

And I think you under-sell DeShazo, since his play is part of why Beamer didn't get fired. He's been forgotten somewhat given the QBs who followed him.

Overall, a pretty thorough and accurate list. Except Glennon is way too high. He's number 9, and that's only because no one shits a bed like Grant Noel. I was in Death Valley for the LSU game in '08, and after seeing Glennon's "performance" then, the best I can say for him is at least he wasn't Grant Noel.
