"Pimp-slap defenders in the second half."

Wilson - Let me have my dream.
I did notice the same about Maddy. I should have noted it. But I also noticed Maddy being real physical when he was in there. I'm curious as to why he didn't play more. Maybe the ankle was bothering him again? Marshall is giving it his all - gotta give him credit. He was thrown into the fire balls first.
I, too, noticed Edwards being swallowed up on the second level a lot. I feel like he was pretty effective on blitz plays in games earlier this season, maybe we need some more of that?
Nothing caught my eye on Lanier in the first half, probably because I was watching Brooks more. Do you notice the delay at the snap sometimes, as well?
And as for Tyrel Wilson, I try to stay positive because I do not think he's there physically. So we're asking him to do things he may not be able to do, yet. Also, it did sound like he was dinged up. So, all things considered, I'll give him a thumbs up. I want to see more 90 and 95 in there. But 95 hasn't shown me enough yet.
On Wilson, I don't think he was the one yelling. Based on Beamer's half time interview, it was Beamer yelling at Wilson, saying "GET UP FIELD AND HIT THE HOLE GOING NORTH/SOUTH." Wilson's running style, as well as the style of the Hokie run blocking, completely changed in the second half. Wilson hit holes with explosion, and the Hokie interior linemen were able to get single blocks on the BC DL with uncovered linemen getting to the quick BC backers.
Wilson was also excellent in pass protection along with Oglesby.
Exum and Bonner were outstanding, especially Exum.
As noted in my post, the DT rotation was strange. Maddy played the first two series, and then I don't remember him getting back on the field. Marshall went the rest of the way, besides one series by Hamlette. Wake Forest featured a similar rotation.
Edwards stunk up the joint except for the pick. He is terrific in space, but can not take on blockers (an ongoing theme for Hokie backers without a dominant DL.)
Lainer was pretty shakey in the first half pass blocking. He is very week with his left shoulder, which allows DEs to get the corner on him even though he is in position to block.
I couldn't disagree more on Tyrell Wilson. He got a couple of QB pressures on really long plays (due to good pass coverage), but again, he was BEING PASS BLOCKED BY A TIGHT END. You just can't have your starting DE, especially your pass rush DE, getting blocked by a tight end without help. It allows the OL to double Hopkins and JR Collins, and then POOF, no rush with a four man line.
First off, I still have no goddamn idea why BSU is top 10. But I've said that since, eh, 2008 so with a grain of salt. I'm just hoping someone will beat them so this horse will be shot again and everyone wills shut up about it/them/the blur turf (its just goddamn dye).
I think MSU will trip up at some point but I don't think Wisky will again. Still my pick for the rose bowl.
For every week that passes I have this suspicion that 11 clemson will be a replay of sorts of 04 Auburn. Undefeated but left out of the BCSCG over the undefeated out of the B12/Pac12. That being said if both B12 and Pac12 have one loss teams, clemson should get in. On the same note, I don't think we (VT) will beat them again if we take coastal. I was shaky even before the massive D injuries and now I'm pretty confident. Flame on.
I think oregon is underrated and this will be proven when they beat the shit out of stanford.
Kstate is overrated and that will be a dead issue very soon.
Okie state to win the Big 12 and possibly play LSU in the title game. I would also love to see a scanners-like staring match between miles and grundy (even though miles will win and consequentially grundy's head will explode in a tribute to the ending scene of scanners).
Bottom 15 is a mess and I personally do not believe ANY big east team belongs in the top 25. I know blah blah cincy and everything but as much as I may regret this statement later, I saw Cincy at Knoxville (their only loss) and that isn't a top 25 team. I haven't seen much change in the team since then, just weaker opponents. Geno smith is garbage and the only high point of WVU is VanHolgo and the fantastic jokes that result of his/his hair's sideline presence.
His two outliers on the season are Appy State (162 yards) and Arky State (85 yards). Eliminate those and he has ranged between 123 yards and 137 yards in every game. That's a window of 14 yards he's working in. Barring injury (and there is nothing to indicate he's wearing down as the season progresses) I don't think his average is changing much down the stretch. If it does anything, I see it going up because of a monster game or two. So I guess it's a question of what the other nine guys around him in that chart do.
It will probably come down to whether or not we make the ACCCG to give Mr. Wilson an extra game to work with.
Given our tendency to use LT3 on runs inside the 5, wouldn't it be nice to see a Tebow-esq fake run/jump pass used? Perhaps in the ACCCG against Clemson?
I'm fairly sure Oklahoma and Whisky would beat us by 2+TDs on a neutral field.

Forget that Wilson bought the car last January and not while he was being recruited in high school, a kid can't make an honest pay and buy and fix up a car? Plenty of kids I knew in college did it.
-- Not too sold on OU and until they play OSU Im not sure exactly where they should be. TT was unranked putting 500+ yards on what seemed to be a pretty stout D. The FSU game wasnt mesmerizing either.
-- Wisky on the other hand was a heartbreaker with good play on either side against a rolling AND ranked Michigan St. That ND loss wass mind numbing but happened early. Since then they've found some fire.
-- Clemson is tricky. Its hard to jump previously ranked teams coming out of a 6-7 season but they're playing with purpose. Lets see how Cardinal handles the Ducks and CU with potential trap in Atl. People are fired up but its not even November yet.
-- LOL @ the 'Neers. Looked OK against L Shoe but that unraveling against 'Cuse who scraped by Wake, gifted with Toledo, and close loss with Rutgers is impermissible. Good work.
-- Tech is fine. UNC, GT, and UVA look to be the toughest slate going forward with MUST WIN v GT.
-- poor Wildcats may enjoy it while it lasts but they have a rough road ahead.
You move Michigan State up 7 spots because they won on a hail mary on the last play of the game, while playing at home. Don't really think that's accurate.
If I were to rank 1 loss teams, I'd put em in this order. Oregon, Arkansas, VT, MSU, Wisconsin, OU, Nebraska. Mainly because Oregon, Arkansas, and our only loss came to teams ranked in the top 5. Whereas Nebraska was blown out, Wisconsin doesn't have a win against against a team with a winning record, and Michigan State needed a little luck (as well as the Hail Mary). OU just got dominated (lets be honest, the score was much closer than the game) by an unranked team while playing at home.
Does anyone think he'll finish that way? I think he has a shot, but the top ten is pretty crowded right now.
| RK | PLAYER | TEAM | ATT | YDS | YDS/A | LONG | TD |

He's fourth in yards per game behind: Ronnie Hillman, Ray Graham, and Bobby Rainey. Right now, his 6.32 yards per carry average are the highest in Tech history.
Realistically, playing in the ACC Championship game and against a lesser team in the bowl game would help his cause because post-season games are included as part of the total.
I agree on Boykin. His mercurial effort blocking (sometimes he is a demon, and sometimes he completely tanks the play) would be less frustrating except the other 3 guys block their tails off for the most part.
I am not going to jump on the Boykin "drop", because Thomas smoked that ball. It was probably LT3's 2nd worst throw of the day. The "no" touchdown however was brutal, especially for a guy who looks to be an NFL prospect at WR in a VERY deep WR draft this year.

Virginia Tech starting linebacker Bruce Taylor suffered a Lisfranc sprain in his foot in Saturday’s win over Boston College and the redshirt junior will miss the rest of the season. He will undergo surgery this week at Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg.
Boykin had a handful of terrible plays against BC.
On the first play of the game I'm 99% certain that Boykin was supposed to be on the line of scrimmage (22) but instead lined up on the 20, perhaps thinking the opening kickoff was a touchback. This drew an illegal procedure flag that BC ultimately declined. He then on the same play failed to snag the pass from Thomas, which deflected off his hands. This let BC decline the penalty and made us lose the down. If Boykin catches that pass BC is forced to accept the 5 yard penalty. Yes, we'd be forced with 1st and 15, but we would have still had three downs to work with. We wound up getting 9.5 yards on the next two plays before the Branthover shank, so 15 in three downs was probably doable.
On the third drive Boykin completely lost track of his position in regards to the sideline and left four points on the field when he forgot to drag the toe on what was a stone cold lock of a touchdown pass. Any senior receiver with aspirations of getting drafted needs to know where he is and what he needs to do to come down in bounds.
Other than that, Boykin settled in and had a fine day. I don't mean this to come across as down with Boykin. He's legitimately our best receiver when he's on. But he made some mistakes that killed a couple of drives for us in the first quarter.
Your analysis is always amazing and technical. Where did you learn so much about football?
Haha. That wasn't the Spaz face I was talking about but it will do.
Hope he and Hyphen will be able to return next season. I think it was a Lisfranc sprain that ended Kevin Jones' career though...
A lot of people knew what he was capable of after his performance last season, and therefore expectations of him were already high. Thats why I voted Cris Hill at least. Mainly because Hill hasn't done too much in the previous 3 years leading up to this year.
And Also, I'd say Skip is tied with Kyle Fuller for second best defensive player thus far.
he's had a few drinks.
i think will is talking about the beer is from there. he's in sakerlina now.
I dont have twitter can someone post the tweets?
No shit! I grew up in G-Vegas (Greenville if you're not up on the ever-changing slang)
and follow Joe on twitter, because his FSU rant is priceless, and someone needed to say it. Blacksburg altitude, good brews, and unjustified entitlement by fsu fans create the best tweets, and @thekeyplay laid them out. GO HOKIES!
