I went fishing the other day. After slow action and not much luck, I broke out my old trusted bottle of BEAMER'S FAVORITE SAUCE and squirted some on my hook. I couldn't keep the fish off my line! Thanks Coach!

To your point above in 2011 Virginia had 26 commits, 7 had VT offers:

Darius Jennings
Kameron Mack
Demetrious Nicholson
Brandon Phelps
Clifton Richardson
Dominique Terrell
David Watford

Virginia Tech had 21 commits, 11 had UVa offers:

Michael Cole
Jake Goins
Chris Hall
Michael Holmes
Kyshoen Jarrett
Demitri Knowles
Ryan Malleck
Corey Marshall
Darius Redman
Matt Roth
Ronny Vandyke

But yeah, they "out-recruited" us.

We just need to keep beating any sort of relevance out of them and all will be well.

I have no doubt that Williams is headed to UVA, he's a "UVA Kid." As they say. I don't know much about Harold but looking at his offer list... why UVA?

I'm really really excited about some of these kids coming up through the Central Region, good crop this year, better corp next year.

just found out VT has another ace in the hole, apparently. looks good.

coleman was strongly hinted at the wed night before the spring game.

vt is going to have to beat db's off them.

williams and harold look like uva guys, the rest they will need to WORK hard at though homer and the norfolk christian guys verballing wouldn't surprise me.

got a couple more nuggets, for later.

The first thing I did after reading through the PDF was extract that picture. I need to think of something good to do with it. Any thoughts?

That's some pretty good insight on his 4-4 being used around high schools in Virginia. It has to be a tremendous advantage for an undersized or less athletic recruit who's played in a variation of his system in high school competing against a more highly regarded player new to the scheme. Hopefully it leads to Vandyke getting on the field quicker.

From everything I've heard it sounds like Manning has been rocking Hokie gear everywhere he goes and he told Tennessee he was 100% committed to Miami. I think (hope) they are loading up on talent because Hosley, Hill and Whitley will all be gone in 2012. I definitely agree that we need to pull in a couple more offensive lineman, or five more tight ends that can turn into 1-2 linemen. ZING!

I hope the best for Darren Evans and was really surprised at some of the running backs ahead of him. I was extremely disappointed when the Ravens took Anthony Allen instead of Evans in the 7th round as it would've re-united the 2 alums and you would think Maryland brass would see a lot of Evans while evaluating Tyrod.

That pic of old school Foster definitely needs the key play photo treatment. The alignment and way the PDF looks kind of looks like something from the 80s but that document I guess was produced in while I was a freshman in highschool. A version of the old 4-4 Bud Foster defense was used at Westfield HS (where I went) and it was also used at Oakton (Cody Grimm) and also I think currently at South County (Ronny VanDyke).

Looks like a natural fit for the rover spot and can contend for playing time immediately, as we will be incredibly thin next year at both safety spots.

As we continue our run on defensive backs for the 2012 class, it's almost like the coaches are waiting for Manning out of Miami to de-commit. I know the SEC schools and da U are all over him despite his verbal to VT.

I still think we need another RB, a stud receiver or two (Caleb and Diggs, fingers crossed), 2-3 OL and 2-3 DL. Would definitely like to pick up Clarke and Moore to reinforce the linebackers. At this point, I'm pretty confident about our status with the top 10 in the state, especially if we keep hammering away.

I like this feature a lot, look forward to more in the future.

Something must be done with the Professor Foster photo from the first link.

It really sucks that Tyrod got (unintentionally) screwed by football management. I wonder what having Coale and Boykin would have meant in terms of draft status for Tyrod. Also sad to see DE back there. Feel for the guy, can't wait for this NFL nonsense to subside so he can become the next Arian Foster.

to me at least, that we are the BCS-Championship-Program-in-waiting. We're starting to get consistent critical acclaim, even in these types of videos where we used to get tore apart pretty bad. Nice nod to Beamer and our program, pretty pleased with our respect level considering. We just need to step up one day and win it all.

And yeah, maybe we are a dark horse contender in the polls this year. SOS be damned, I do believe an undefeated dominant team does get talked up more.

You are lucky that you did not get a concussion in high school (that's when the brain is at the most risk).

I agree that the big name conferences are making considerable money off of the athletes, but at the same time, the college athletes want to play through everything and anything in an attempt get that huge paycheck in the NFL. I think that the college players should want to use the better helmets first, that way they may not have to try and play through anything. There are problems on both sides.

I was lucky. I played football in high school and never got a concussion (that I know of). I saw first hand the effects of concussions though. I played ball with a, who I'll leave unnamed, successful college QB and now backup professional QB. He suffered a concussion during a scrimmage and the bus ride home was both hilarious, because he believed everything, and scary because he couldn't remember anything.

It was in mid April when I fully regained the use of my brain again, which was around six months later, which is how long a serious concussion can take to heal.

Geeeeeez, glad your brain is all healed up.

The NCAA and BCS conferences are making money hand over fist. If they are going to continue to exploit these kids, at least make sure they're safe.

Thank you for the great read!

It is scary stuff, because the symptoms are never the same. I actually got a concussion (not my first, unsure as to what number it actually is, but was probably around my 3rd) and that is what spurred me to write the article. I got the concussion October 13th (just before the VT/Wake game) and was told I'd be okay to go to the game on the Saturday. Going to that game was probably the worst thing I could've done due to the noise, lights, and intensity of the game. It was in mid April when I fully regained the use of my brain again, which was around six months later, which is how long a serious concussion can take to heal.

Spending the extra money on helmets shouldn't even be optional in my opinion. The athletes want to play, the coaches want them to play, and the parents want them to play and be relatively safe. From personal experience, even though a helmet wouldn't have changed anything, it is better to have more attention be on concussions, that way they can be treated better. Schiffert Health Center here at VT does not have up-to-date information on concussions; and their information isn't even from the 21st century. They still grade concussions, and don't even say not to watch TV or play video games (or anything mentally stimulating, like using a cell phone or reading). So in my opinion, it isn't just the athletes that are at risk, but more so the general student population who do not have the kind of medical staff that the student-athletes have. I had to write the article with a slant towards the football team here because that was where most of the research was going, so it made it easier to interview people and find out exactly what was/is going on.

You never can tell what the effects will be. Being the Hockey fan from St Louis that I am (which is a bit unrelated) we had one of our best players get elbowed in the face in a game. He came back later in the game, scored a goal, and then missed the rest of the season (around 72 games). Here we are, about six months later, and he can't even get on the ice and skate because his symptoms are still terrible. And this was only his first concussion. Scary Stuff.

has been doing a lot of studies into TBI, or Traumatic Brain Injury's (which includes concussions) ever since the Golf War. What they were finding was that people who have suffered from Brain Injury displayed very similar symptoms to those who had PTSD (Post traumatic stress disorder). This caused concern because people were not getting disability from the military because they were wrongfully diagnosed. Last year they also found that persons who suffer from multiple TBI's are more likely to later in life get chronic traumatic Encephalomyopathy (which has similar symptoms to that of Lou Gehrig’s disease). Now the department of veteran affairs does in depth medical check outs with separating and retiring service members who have served in combat zones. Anyone who has suffered from

*Close proximity to a blast or explosion (IED, RPG, Land Mine, Grenade, etc.) ,
* Fragment wound or bullet wound above the shoulders
* Vehicular accident or crash (including aircraft, tank, personnel carrier, etc.)
* Fall
* Blow to the head
is now automatically screened. If you look into the Veterans Affairs studies they use deceased athletes to study the damage from multiple brain traumas. I think maybe these kids should stop worrying about how silly their helmet might look now and start worrying about how their body will handle the damage later. IMO, anything in Chicago Maroon and Burnt Orange with a VT on the side is going to look awesome regardless. Spend the money on the helmets, the parents would appreciate it!

They love the game day atmosphere, Thursday night games, and now it is confirmed they love the "cafeteria". What more could you want, except a National Title? 14-0? It can happen. I believe!

i love that the reason they think we should be a national champion is our amazing dinning hall.
i always liked that we played really good teams early. we have played two eventual national champions and several big contenders. true we lost them all and it would have been awesome if we won. but these games only made our guys better and more experienced. playing cupcakes gives you false confidence.

As long as I've been a Hokie I've learned one thing: All bets are off when we play GT. Granted whoever their QB is (I'm thinking it''ll be Washington), they'll be on a learning curve, and Tevin seems to have a hard time not turning it over. It always seems, however, that PJ has Bud's number. Maybe with the confidence the coaches seem to have with the whip and our D-ends, we can stifle the triple option, but I remain reserved in claiming a victory. It seems their secondary may be terrible. I mean, when GT's offense is throwing all over their own defense, that's a terrible sign. Maybe if Logan can get a hold of the game by then we can open up the playbook for some passes and give ourselves a cushion in case CPJ rams the ball down our throats again. I hate that offense. It's like when your little brother button mashes in Street Fighter. It's strictly legal, but a cheap way to win.

For some reason, and I don't know why, I'm a bit concerned about Clemson. They're a real streaky team with some play makers. They almost took down Auburn last year, and in fact, beat themselves that game. It's all about momentum for them. I see 10-2 as well, but couldn't pick which teams we'll lose to.
