I agree. This whole discussion over who is "best" is just horseshit. Everyone thinks everyone else's opinions are wrong, so take that out of the equation.

Divide things up. Have one, two, three... representatives from those divisions play each other in a single elimination bracket until one team is left as the winner. Every other realm of the sports world handles this except for college football.

CFB is different because we can't divide the teams up evenly I guess.

The FCS manages just fine. It is deliberate decision to continue doing this in the dumbest way possible because it makes the right people money.

You're right, but I don't see this as the same topic as the ACC GoR. And you absolutely don't sign something like that, or this, without lawyers being involved.

I see it as a whole thing. The splash hire includes whoever the hell Franklin wants in the water. We're trippin' if we think we're going to suddenly be able to hire anyone who can outsplash Franklin anyway. It's all just one big "splash."

It would be very easy to have a precise and fair process. But a handful of teams are always looking for some kind of advantage for themselves.

I sincerely hope this is the beginning of the end of the relationship with ND. I do not agree with Cowherd much but he nailed it with the dating analogy. ND wants the casual fling with the benefits of a full marriage without actually being married. If you dont want to share the football revenue and tv deal but expect the conference to still lobby for you like a 21 year member in Miami go eat rocks and pound sand.

I cannot understand this concept.

It should be simple. Have a regular season with some kind of conference or other form of internal divisions. Have a way to define the "champions" of that conference or division with as many teams advancing as is needed to fill out the playoff bracket. Teams play in that single elimination playoff bracket, and the winner is the team that wins. It's that way with every other sport except for CFB. The best teams should not advance. The teams that advance should advance. This is how it's done in every sport from high school girls volleyball to the NFL. CFB is different because we can't divide the teams up evenly I guess.

What's Terry Smith GOING to do? He's toeing the company line. Just like the rest of the people who stayed at (or are fans of) Penn State. Would have been VERY difficult for him to leave there. This surprises exactly nobody. If I were a Penn State guy, I don't think I'd have been particularly pleased about how this all went down. I'd probably be ranting on the internet, too.

I don't really call that divisive so much as self preservation. If you're Virginia Tech, you're team Franklin. If you're Team Kraft and you stayed at Penn State, you're not going to be singing Franklin praises. That's loyalty - on both sides.

So there's no reason for us to get divisive about it. I'm on the side of Virginia Tech, and our decision was made. We're on the Franklin train, for better or for worse. And we won't really know the results for a bit. I could be wrong, but I can't imagine it will be worse than Fuente or Pry as head coach.

Doesn't mean we have to agree with every decision Franklin makes, but I'm strongly hoping he succeeds.

Agreed, which is why we play the games.

Oregon beat every team they played last season but they weren't national champions. But if we counted h2h then Oregon should have shared the championship. They were .500 against anOSU and beat everyone else. So H2H doesn't matter. It was about the schedule as a whole and Decmeber/January wins/losses mean more from a schedule standpoint.

There was some further discussion I read somewhere about Kotelnicki at Penn State. His offense is very tight timing-wise, but the WR coach coaches the receivers to react more on what's going on around them (where the DB is, where the open spot is, etc.). Those two philosophies didn't work well together.

Allar's stats would make him second all time at VT in passing yards and first in TDs

Allar also used all of his eligibility. When was the last time VT had a qb play for 2 full seasons, let alone 3-4? Drones anddddd? Tyrod? LT3? Brewer, Evans, Hooker, Wills, etc all played less than two full years due to injuries, portal, etc

Pry was already our DC for a year don't forget. And his defenses were with super elite Penn State talent, from national recruiting not just VA and PA. I don't see our personnel being that good. (Also think Big Ten defenses are overinflated and

That said I don't anticipate defense being the main issue. Offense will probably be vastly behind those other places.

Wish him well. I hope it was a good ride for him.

Im thinking this means JMFF is having the 'hard talks' and we'll know a lot more soon about the coaching roster.

Cheetah just posted a nice thank you to Hokie Nation on Instagram and confirmed that his time in Blacksburg is at an end.

After hearing about coaching contracts and other things in academia, lawyers seem to be rarely involved. It isnt the nature like a PE.

Don't take these comments as I condone this, its stupid and short sighted, there just might be a silver lining that no compenent organization would sign the ACC GoR.

Also how did all but two big 10 teams agree to a PE deal if they had competent lawyers

"Best team" does not equal "champion".

The 16-0 Patriots were clearly the best team in the NFL that year, but they lost the Super Bowl because the Giants were the better team that day. Does that mean that the Patriots should have been crowned the Super Bowl champs?

The ONLY reason people aren't saying hell yeah, fuck yeah about Pry is because he was just HC here. If he was coming in and we were evaluating him as a DC prospect, with his top ten and close defenses, people would be ecstatic.

Pry is the most proven coordinator we've had since Foster. People need to stop judging him on his performance as a head coach and focus on his performance as a DC, because he will be DC'ing here now, NOT HC'ing.
