But who's going to mandate that? The postseason is run by schools, and none of them want that.

Just throwing this in here not at all to make fun of UVA but this was their second 10 win season ever. Their first was 1989.

.... And it all could have been prevented by mandating conference championship as a requirement to reach the playoff

Jesus I read this and thought he hired art briles at first. He hired his son, Kendall.

To be fair, we hired Phillip Montgomery, who was probably equally involved/aware of the scandal as Kendall was.

In addition to the recruiting data that other Ben pointed out, games are also closer than ever before. Whatever analytics service you prefer - SP+, FPI, etc - they all show that the gap between teams is smaller than ever before. This is also reflected in Vegas spreads.

Now, all that said, I think I get what you're trying to say: the top 10 has 8 P2 teams, and the top 25 has 15 P2 teams, so most of the parity is from 2 conferences.

This is why conference realignment sucks. If we went back to the 2010 conference alignment, we'd have:

  • B10: 2 schools in the top 10, 4 in the top 25
  • SEC: 3 schools in the top 10, 5 in the top 25
  • B12: 3 schools in the top 10, 4 in the top 25
  • PAC: 1 school in the top 10, 3 in the top 25
  • ACC: 1 school in top 10, 3 in the top 25
  • Independents: 2 in the top 25
  • Non-P5: 4 in the top 25

So, the reality is that while more programs have a path to the top of the sport than ever before, those programs span fewer conferences.

Anyways, this is why I believe that conference realignment is responsible for at least 75% of what lifelong college football fans don't like about college football in 2025.

We moved all US teams headquarters to Atlanta then have all our games on the west coast. I love soccer. But how we manage US soccer at all levels is a sick joke.

That Michael felder episode was fantastic. Meant to post that here as well. The about coaches caring, players getting to know each other, etc was :chefs kiss:

Would be a much better November slate than the football we normally get. Do only two OOC games. Play 8 conference games. Play in conference tournaments. Conference final teams - Top 6 Champs are in. Six Champ runners up are in. Four At Large spots are in. Rank those 16 teams. Playoffs start 3rd week of December to 3rd week of January. First two rounds on higher ranked teams campus. Last three games split by rotating top destinations. Limit additional bowl games to eight more games or something due to the increased opt outs.

So sorry for your loss. As I hinted at in thew piece I wrote above, I missed a lot of my dad's later years(something I will regret to my dying day). However , the week he passed, he was in the hospital. I wrote a letter to him telling him all the things I wished I had a chance to say to him if I could. Unbeknownst to me til afterward, my mother had to have the doctor bring my dad from unconsciousness to a lucid state to correct something legal in their trust docs. While he was in that lucid state, she read my letter to him. She told me they both wept as they read it. So while he may not have heard it from my lips, at least he died knowing what I felt. I read it at the funeral service the next week-one of the hardest things I've ever done.

At what point do we need to have conference championship tournaments? With these stupidly obese conferences where you can avoid so many in your own conference at what point will we need to add a 2 round conference title bracket for top 4 of these mega country wide conferences.

I'm kidding mostly knocking how every year we hear from those who deserve it like the big babies from ND who for all I care can go eat rocks.

Too bad I credit that more to ESECPN using the ACC Network as a beard to stump for Alabama getting in more than I think the ACC managed any of that.

Now their fans are upset they wont ever get to watch their Heisman candidate running back ever again....and do they own the decision to opt out of the bowl game? Nope its the CFPs fault AND Love wont win because he isn't in the playoffs. You can't make this shit up.

Love not winning will have way more to do with his 30 rushing yards performance against Miami and Mendoza leading Indiana over Ohio St in the Big 10 final.

Succeeding pays FAR better than failing. Yeah, maybe you get paid to go away. But if you get another job, they payout for firing will likely be less. Then, if you got fired twice, you're not likely to get the up-front job you could then get fired from, at least in D1, which means getting fired from a third place pays next to nothing.

However, succeeding, teams pay you MORE, and then having continued success, other teams want to pay you EVEN MORE.

So sure, if you don't want to actually coach anymore, failing is a good way to get a nice payout, then not coach.

Glad he is getting accolades, but man can we get him somewhere else? Who is letting our guy waller in that dump of ECU? Some Hokies need to pull some strings and step him up!

The ACCN replaying the Miami v ND game most of championship week was an actual big boy move. Probably should have played the FSU v Bama game just at much.

I will never forget the snow war after the blizzard of February 1983. 18 inches of snow and we cadets went all the way to Pritchard throwing snowballs into every open window we could find. The civilians came boiling out of Prairie Quad dorms like an overturned nest if fire ants. Chased us all the way back to Lane Hall where we held the hill for half an hour before being overwhelmed by numbers. The University tried to have classes that day but were told by too many professors that they couldn't make it on campus and so I got my one and only snow day from 1982-1986. Good times. Caught the flu the next day but was totally worth it.

The same locker room that will be roughly 90% different than the one he had.
The same locker room that probably felt the rift that Pry was feeling from the fans, administration and boosters.
The same locker room that was feeling heat and pressure to perform under intense conditions.
I don't think he necessarily lost the locker room as much as the locker room lost hope after the USCe loss and the pressure of having to prove battle worthiness for a lame-duck coach.
By all accounts, from what i've heard first hand and elsewhere, the players loved Pry.

Everyone's always excited for new matchups when it comes to the postseason.

Alabama vs. Oklahoma - Even though they are conference foes now (with Oklahoma winning both times, including last month), there have only been 8 prior games, with Oklahoma having a 5-2-1 record.

Miami vs. Texas A&M - 5 total meetings, with Miami having a 3-2 edge. It appears that all of the games were regular season games, but the only game prior to the current century occurred in 1944.

Tulane vs. Ole Miss - This series dates back to 1893, with an official record of Ole Miss having a 44-28 edge, although if we count vacated wins and forfeits, it should be 45-29. The most recent meeting was on September 20, exactly 3 months prior to the CFP rematch. Tulane's last victory was in 1988.

JMU vs. Oregon - a brand new matchup, never before played.

Looking forward to round two:
Alabama vs. Indiana - first time match up
Oklahoma vs. Indiana - Oklahoma would be looking to avenge their loss from 1928 in their only previous meeting.

Miami vs. Ohio State - officially, the series is at 2-2, but OSU vacated a win from 2010, so they should have a 3-2 lead.
Texas A&M vs. Ohio State - OSU has swept aTm 4-0, most recently on New Year's Day 1999.

Tulane vs. Georgia - Georgia has held a 14-10-1 advantage in this series since 1985.
Ole Miss vs. Georgia - It's a conference game, with Georgia holding a 34-13-1 lead (with one Ole Miss vacation in 2016). Their most recent meeting was in October, and Ole Miss's only loss of the season.

Oregon vs. Texas Tech - Oregon is 3-0
JMU vs. Texas Tech - another new matchup. Actually, JMU has never played any of the other teams in the CFP.
