I don't like the "feel" of it, for sure, but the way I figure it is we hired Franklin for a reason and we have to let him configure his staff the way he wants to. We trust his knowledge and instincts or we don't, and if not, we don't hire him, right?
Me, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but I doubt he's worried about what I think either way.
I hear you, but there would need to be a new governing structure or the NCAA would need to re-classify as a for-profit entity. That's the entire problem - we have a governing bod that is non-profit that is in change of a sport that is entirely nothing but profit.
I wouldn't either if we could fix conference alignment so that a 7-5 team isn't in your championship. We've got to have a system that makes sense through every conference schedule through to the final national championship game, some sort of over arching governing body that can enforce some conference structures - we shall call it the NCAA and they could enforce rules and make things well regulated and normalized but instead will sit idly (and every month or so give the most wild ruling that makes no sense so people still know they exist) as the entire structure of college football burns
Here's your schedule for the USMNT:

I wouldn't be opposed to a system that awarded auto bids to conferences champions (all of them), then used the BCS to do the bracket seeding and fill in the rest of the 12-team field with the highest BCS ranked non-conference-champs
Same. I think both Tulane and JMU are going to surprise next weekend. Wouldn't surprise me at all if JMU walks out of Eugene winning by multiple scores.
I would really like to just go back to the computer ranking system + playoff but ESPN would never let that happen, they'd lose their influence to push for every SEC team to get in and lose all of this coverage drama they get as they rake in money. Every year this sport is ruined just a touch more by money influences

All this talk of the G5 teams getting beat down, I hope at least one pulls off an upset!
Gotta love doubling down on a take that was proven wrong lol
It probably wouldn't be much different than what they have now. NBC keeps the home games, and every network fights over their away games. Why the heck couldn't this work with the ACCN where NBC jus broadcasts their home games?
With all of the other sweetheart deals they've cut, I'm sure they can manage to keep that cash cow alive while in a conference.
Sure, but they're special, and don't want to share their network TV money.

All ND had to do was join the ACC as a full member to walk over a 7-5 Duke team to get their ticket punched. They chose to take their ball and go home. The system as is it right now definitely favors winning your conference, and with ND electing to not participate in one they are only handicapping themselves and relying entirely on rankings to get them in.
BINGO.
I can see the pressure (justifiably) ramping up quickly in that case.
I usually find myself defending Notre Dame, but this is Notre Lame.
What did they trade for this?
Bama had three losses - more than any other playoff participant.
It would absolutely have been defensible to leave them out.
Bama should have been left out.
Notre Dame had been playing very well since their losses. Could win it all. Alabama is losing their first playoff game.
Holt better not be around
Any other team in their position would be out though
Sigh...no, they wouldn't.
Don't you know that football is the sport of stupid, foolish ruffians? Tiddlywinks, polo, croquet and complaining to the HOA are the true gentlemen's sports.
Bama has no business being in this. if any other team ate shit in a conference championship game like that, theyd be dropped at least 10 spots
When Notre Dame, Iowa State, Baylor etc all decline their bowl offers does that mean the coaching staff get shorted the bonuses they qualified for by making bowl status?

You know what? I'm gonna say it.
I'm glad the Bush Push happened now.
